There are many more conservatives in this forum than liberals (1 Viewer)

I can imagine, lying there on your deathbed, thinking "Damn! I'm SO glad I kept lists of everybody's political leanings on that forum! THAT sure came in handy!"

Looking at the more overtly political threads on the first few pages, I would say:

-Obamacare thread: the top posters are overwhelmingly liberals

-Voter Fraud Thread on 2nd page: pretty evenly divided

-NYC Sugary Drinks thread: pretty even

I'm not tallying anything up, but just a quick scan of the top posters seems to show that the majority of postings are split pretty evenly between conservative and liberal posters. The only outlier is overwhelmingly in the liberal direction.

So I'd say that unless you have some actual proof, it's time to shut this thing down.

I regard all the bolded as conservative. And the Commish, while not a conservative (so far as I can tell, has pretty much sided with conservatives in that specific debate.
You actually keep track like that? Why? You need a hobby. When you can produce lists like that, isn't it obvious its time to find something more productive to do?
I don't keep any lists. I guess I just have a good memory.

That's actually even sadder. You really need to spend less time here and more time with your family. You will regret it.

You've wasted more of your life than everyone else on this board combined. Grow up and move on.

lol. Most people who are in the political threads know who is who. Stop trying to make this into some silly "look at tim! He has no life!" shtick.

We all know you don't have a life. You live for this place. That's why your wife won't iron your shirts.

I don't know or care about mattyl's political leanings but his postings in that thread from what I recall were not politically charged. He was the resident insurance expert explaining to all of us common folk what the hell was going on. Makes sense he would have the most posts there.

Rather than lump everyone into "black" or "white," "liberal" or "conservative," it'd be interesting to see a series of questions that people can answer...issue to issue.

I think you get a LOT of people here who would call themselves an "independent," that others of us would call a pretty obvious liberal or conservative. But Obamacare, or abortion, or smaller government, or gay marriage or ??? might be THE issue for them. The one where they pull a "timschochet" and post about 8,000 posts in a single thread. ;) But ask them to break down their views?

EXAMPLE:
Obamacare: ...run them Obamacrats out of D.C. on a pole!!! :P
Abortion: ...what you do is your business...don't necessarily agree with it, but it's not a huge issue for 'me'
Smaller Government: ...all-for it! Just cut back on pork in areas of our government such as the military before gutting social services
Gay Marriage: ...what you do is your business...don't necessarily agree with it, but it's not a huge issue for 'me'

So, the above person is "timschochet" in the Obamacare thread, and is subsequently branded a conservative! Yet that person doesn't personally identify as a conservative, given their stances on abortion and gay marriage.

That's the problem with American politics. We are a nation of gray..."purple," if you will. Yet the folks on the two extremes, and the media trying to drive ratings and ad dollars, force you to choose. Are you "black," or are you "white?" Are you "red," or are you "blue?" Most people are neither. More black than white or more red than blue...sure! But a vast majority of us are somewhere in-between the two poles.

To me this website is similar to real life. You have loud people on both sides who claim to be liberal and conservative but under the surface you have a silent majority called independents. We don't label ourselves one way or the other, we take each issue case by case and weight the facts. There are only a small percentage who post in politics threads, a lot of us are reading though and not rushing to judgments and just spouting talking points for either side. Think about it, would you rather watch something happen without knowing anything about it or why it happened and just yell that it's right or wrong? good or bad? Or would you rather get all the facts and then make a decision? If you answered wait for the facts then you might be an independent. I'll admit when I was younger I would rush to judgement but now I learn everything I can before arriving at a position.

It never ceases to amaze me how ugly some of you guys get about Tim.
My comment wasn't really meant to be ugly. It was meant to be pretty honest and direct and sincere. And Tim doesn't need more defenders. He talks enough to defend himself. We got it bub.
I don't think you were trying to be ugly. But really dude, you know very little about my life. I enjoy being involved in some of the discussions here, at work, and at home while I'm doing other stuff. Big deal. Believe me, it doesn't take away from me spending time with my daughters, with my life, or any of the things I enjoy .

Actually there are single issue voters. They don't weigh each issue. They vote by one issue.

And you will regret your time here. You just don't see it now. Trust me there, if nothing else.
I doubt it.

I've learned a lot. I've really had fun in some of the draft threads. Those will be in my memory forever. The dislike- well it's just a message board. Pure entertainment.

That is something else. i am talking about people who don't come down on one side of an issue just because that is the side their party is on. I am talking about people who take each issue one by one and get the facts and decide what is what they think is right. There are a lot of us and we're growing.

Um, that's OK, we get the idea you could be his biographer.
I think the point is, I know these things cuz he's posted them. We all know them.

Let's relax a bit here with the ridiculous hyperbole broceratops. I'm a fan of tim too good bud. But I will call him out on his BS.

Most of that stuff is pretty incidental though. The exceptions are the family stuff but I rarely post about my personal life.

Things like favorite movies or political views don't really tell you about the core of a person. They don't tell you if you are a good guy or a son of a #####. You really have to know someone in person to get that. It's not available on a message board.

Also, because we're all disguised here, most of us are extroverts in this forum , saying stuff we never would in real life. Our personalities here are extreme, as our our political and cultural views. Timschochet, like John Bender and almost everyone else here don't really exist. We're alter egos of our true selves.

You look at polls on gay marriage and the Poll is much further left. Democrats and Republicans are evenly split. Social conservatives are treated like they have the plague and are chased out. Far more atheists than general pop. Obama had more support than McCain or Romney.

I think most people here would agree that what we see here with you is what you are away from this board.

Just to add

I know your favorite teams in the NFL, College Football, NBA, and MLS

I know you have 2 daughters and their ages

I know you aren't all that happy with some things about your wife (again, you posted this, I'm not throwing out a random insult)

I know, generally where you live

I know, generally, what you do for a living

I know where you went to college

I know your top 10 songs

I know your top 10 movies

I know your top 10 favorite dictators

I know how you got your job

I know where you met your wife

I know your thoughts on gun control

I know your thoughts on immigration

I know your religion

I know your ethnicity

I know your thoughts on every president of the past 100 years

I know your top 10 presidents

I know your favorite songwriters

I know how you feel about contractors

I know your thoughts on our President

I know your thoughts on ISIS

I know your brother isn't well (and I wish him well)

I know you work in commercial real estate

I know how you feel about the SEC

I know how you feel about blacks

I know how you feel about mexicans

I know your top 10 favorite movies

I know how you feel about minimum wage

I know you aren't that mad about Hitler and what he did

I know you think McGarnicle is a funny poster

I know more about you than I know about my mother, brothers or significant other. Don't tell me I don't know much about you.

Will keep updating
Now who needs to get a life

"Tim can identify some posters' political affilaitions - what a sad loser! You spend so much time here! Now let me list 100 different details of Tim's life from memory."

I know Tim doesn't think Roman Polanski did anything wrong.

Exactly. I never get the Tim hate. I have been giving him a little crap lately about a comment he made to me but it's all in good fun.

So my new poll seems to indicate that people don't want to be identified as conservative these days. Adding libertarian and moderate killed the conservative choice. I think that's too bad. I think it's because of the GOP. People have to remember the GOP isn't conservative and the Democrats aren't liberal by and large.

I also think the Democrats are losing some people to the Libertarians as well.I have voted for who I've thought best represented my stance on the issues I care about the most and sometimes it has been a Democrat, sometimes a Republican and sometimes it was an independent but I now find myself sticking more with the Libertarians on most issues so I vote that way(in recent years).

I'm still open to vote for whoever though at this point depending upon each candidates stance no matter what party.

Seems like there are more liberals than conservatives.
:goodposting: This is one of the dumber Tim threads. Go to any political thread and there are posters falling all over themselves to defend Obama. The guy has a 40% approval rating in real life and an 80% rating on FBG.

This board definitely leans more conservative and that is going to be true across the country for a demographic that likes football.

I do thing a good portion of posters on both sides of the aisle are a lot more nuanced with their opinions on issues than those of their party across the country however. This board leans conservative but there is a progressive tilt going on too.

I regard all the bolded as conservative. And the Commish, while not a conservative (so far as I can tell, has pretty much sided with conservatives in that specific debate.
Because I don't agree with Tgunz? 90% of my posts in that thread are questioning him and his "sources" / "motive". The other 10% are there mocking the epic technology fail. There's been no real need for me to question the "conservatives" as by the time I understand what they are saying, BFS has already addressed them. Again....because I question the "liberal" doesn't mean I side with the "conservative". I side with anyone who suggests addressing the costs of our healthcare system. I don't really care which side of the isle those fictional people land on.
