It's the dead weekend before the start of the NFL season. Preseason week 4 is useless, and over by the weekend anyway. So now we are all sitting here, waiting, forced to watch rain-delayed college football.
I hate this weekend. I got my new shiny redraft toys and my rookies in the dynasty league. I want to see if holding Scott for 3 years will pan out this year. Will Foster start? Was it smart to trade Garcon for draft picks, forecasting the Manning decline?
We all have dozens of assumptions, projections, reaches, and guys we have been mainlining the cool-aid on all offseason. And we have seen some preseason glimpses of greatness (Kendricks, Brown) but as we know, the preseason hero is still a long shot. Yet we have invested in these guys, and damnit, we wanna know what's gonna happen!
I'm ready for the waiver wire darlings, the Vicks and Hillises and Colstons who are snatched up and win guys leagues. I'm ready for the smack talk, the joy of a long TD run and the horrible turn of fortune when that little yellow flag flies onto field followed by a holding call. Especially when it happens to my opponent!
Can't they just start a week early? The NFL held us over the barrell with the lockout mess, then gave us a couple weeks to catch up and see where the FA's were gonna land, then rushing through the preseason, it just FEELS like it should start now, doesn't it?
Crap. I'd drink a beer, but it feels inappropriate without some football.
