Against your normal balanced offense... you're right. However, the Saints aren't exactly a balanced offense. They are very pass heavy, and are much more of a threat in their passing game, than they are in their running game. Also, The Saints spread the field a lot, forcing defenses to cover more receivers. So, of course... going into this game, the Bears coaching staff isn't saying "now... all we have to do is stack the line, stop Pierre Thomas, and force Drew Brees to beat us throwing the ball".The fact that Chicago is so awful against the pass, will only force them to keep even more people in coverage against a passing team like the Saints. Remember what Ryan Grant did when Chicago had to try and compensate for Green Bay's passing game?

If what you're saying was correct, any team with a strong passing game would put up good running numbers against the Bears. Outside of Green Bay, NO team with a good passing game has put up good running numbers against the Bears. Sorry.

What other great passing teams have they faced? I must have missed those games. The next best thing to them would have probably been the eagles (not even close to NO pass offense anyways)... with Westbrook out... yet Buckhalter, Booker, and Jackson ran for over 100 yards on them with 20 carries between them. So... we have Green Bay running all over them, and the Eagles rushing game, without Westbrook going over 100 yards against them.
 
I agree that this being a Thursday night game sucks as I would like to know if Rhodes or Ward were going to get the start this week before making a decision on starting Thomas. Rhodes against Detroit is awfully tempting.

 
Ugh. This is a very tempting play but I've decided to go with Grant over Pierre. I just have this feeling the Bears are going to hunker down defensively with something to play for, and there's too much of a possibility Bush could take from Pierre's touches. OTOH I'm hoping that Green Bay will be playing a must win vs. a Jacksonville squad who has packed it in for the season. Best of luck to those of you who roll with Pierre.

One more time

Bears D has not been very effective against the run the past 4 games

Week 14: 28-119-0(1 rec TD to RB)

Week 13: 39-173-3

Week 12: 19-14-0

Week 11: 38-200-1

And I may point out that week 12 was vs a S Jax less STL team

Doesn't look like much of a stout D to me.

If I didn't have Portis/S Jax/C Johnson/ R Brown in front of Thomas, I would be playing him with confidence.

He'll have a little extra motivation as he will have fans there. He's an Illinois boy. I'll root for him - up to a limit.

Well,

I've pulled PT from the lineup in favor of J.Stewart and D.Rhodes. FWP and Gore are also sitting the bench. Saints don't play well on the road. It'll be *real* cold up there making it harder to catch the ball thus allowing the Bears to stack the line for rush D. On top of that, J.Stewart has a really nice matchup. The question is whether or not he gets the carries with D.Williams playing so well.

Mid 20's with wind of around 10 MPH is not "real" cold. There will be no problems with catching the football.
 
I'm really struggling with this. I do not think Thomas is going to be great tonight...maybe 60 total yards and questionable for a TD. I have Rhodes and Ward waiting (since I probably won't be able to use Barber), but do not know if either of them is starting. At this point, I'm going to go with Rhodes out of the four (along with MoJo as my other starter). If for some reason Addai is around, then maybe I go with Ward and MoJo. At least I have options, however, I almost wonder if I should just be safe and play Thomas.

Yeah, you're from Minnesota. I live near Southwestern Louisiana, although I was raised in Wisconsin. 20's is real cold to people used to living in the South.Besides, I looked up the Jags game. Both RBs had about 12 or 13 carries, each with about 55yards and no rushing TDs. I'm probably wrong, but I'm sitting PT. Since Bush and PT will split carries at best and Bush has the edge in receiving, PT sits this week. J.Stewart probably won't do much better, but it's all a crap shoot at this point.

I understand the concerns but ...Saints offense >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jags offenseI wouldn't use last week's game as any kind of a barometer as to how Thomas and/or Bush will do tonight. That's not to say one or both will go off but I'd give them a much greater chance to succeed due to having a much better offense than Jacksonville possesses.
 
Thomas should get the goal line carries tonight. According to Rotoworld McAllister is inactive for the game.

 
I'm starting Thomas tonight in the 2nd round of our playoffs. Started him last week as I won a shootout and he came through huge for me,

I'm starting him over Faulk and Benson in a non ppr league. He's looked too good to sit. It's not a dream matchup but for me, I'm going with the guy that helped me get there.

Come on Thomas.........let's get it rolling baby! Give me another TD!!!!!

 
Forte is my RB1 this week. RB2 is Thomas, MBIII or Ward. Not too happy about using both RB's on Thursday but not knowing what is going on with Jacobs or MBIII has me banging my head against a wall.

The only think I've been able to do is bench the Bears D for the Dolphins. But this RB2 setup right now is giving me heartburn.

Rotoworld is saying Jacobs id looking very doubtful. I have the same delemma except Thomas/Ward is my flex. I have Thomas in but I think I will pull him for Ward. I think it is risky but I also think Jacobs will be out or very very limited on touches

I'm thinking Ward is a better play as well - and I have Jacobs in my other league and have to settle for Sammy Morris instead. :goodposting:But back to this, everything I'm reading isn't helping. And I just remembered I'm going against Brees in a league where a QB can sneeze and put up 40. So, go with Thomas and hope he cuts into that AND outscores Ward and/or MBIII or just root for Forte and for the Chicago D to play like it's 1985.
 
Fellas-

I have Thomas AND Bush, and while I don't feel great about it, I am starting both. I've been convinced by arguments like those above to start Thomas. My feeling is that Bush will play a role in both the passing game and the running game, and if the Bears shut down one, Bush can still contribute. My other options, if not Bush, are Derrick Mason, Lance Moore, Santana Moss, and Mark Bradley. Each one of those guys has drawbacks. Moore and Moss have been getting fewer targets, and Bradley has been hurt. The Ravens don't pass much to beging with.

Am I doing the right thing in starting Bush alongside Thomas?

I couldn't bring myself to start Thomas over Turner in a standard scoring league or Bush in a PPR league. :cry: :wub:

If, by some miracle, I advance in either league, he's going in against Detroit for sure.

If S Jax, Portis, or even C Johnson throw up goose eggs this week, I'll be very pissed.

Sick to my stomach...guess whose 25 (and counting) points are not in my lineup. This sucks. For what it is worth, I used the cheatsheets to break the tie in my mind. Rhodes and Ward were ranked much higher based on my scoring system. :wub:ETA: 26 points...if he scores the TD here (non-PPR) league, I will have the highest scoring RB game of the season on my bench.

Wow, you know, I didn't even think of Thomas this week, but with news that Deuce was inactive and this very post convinced me to pull the trigger over a very suspect committee of FWP, Braylon and Choice at about 8:09pm tonight. Thank you Wrigley and all the non-doubting Thomas people! I only wish I started him in my other playoff game, lets hope Dom Rhodes does some damage there, but he'd be hard pressed to top this methinks!
 
exactly - this is a prime example of trying to overthink ..... I started Brees & P Thomas in confidence, and Brees wasn't great but I'll take what he gave and am thrilled with P Tom ....

If you've been payin' attention lately, the status of Deuce should have had no bearing on your decision. Total non-factor in every way. He's done.
