Thomas Jones to be cut? (1 Viewer)

No way, the Benson pick was immmediately lambasted in the national media and especially in Chicago. I was in Chicago in early May and every call on sports radio was someone complaining about the pick.
Thats not true at all. Mike Williams was the more popular choice, but the Benson pick was by no means "lambasted"
What do you base that comment on RBM? Do you live here in Chi-town?I'm not a Chicago fan, but I live in the city. Every Bears' fan I know HATED the Benson pick. Most people thought then (& still do now) that it was ridiculous.
I listened to the local sports radio quite a bit during the several days I was there and while the guys on the show defended the pick, all the callers (at least that I heard) were pissed. The only reason I think the radio guys defended him is so he would do their interviews.

What's the difference though?? If it wasn't Benson, it was Mike Williams.We've already got a big slow plodding WR with suspect hands in Moose. Benson actually showed he belonged on an NFL field this year with his limited play. I believe there's very little downside with Benson. He is what he is, a between the tackles 4 ypc back. He even showed nice surprising burst on a couple runs he bumped to the outside. IMO There isn't a better buy low dynasty RB out there.You can only blame the year off rust for so long with Williams (he got worse as the season wore on). Unlike Williams, I've yet to see anyone question Benson's work ethic. If you saw that play where his leg bent the wrong way, you'd be shocked he even saw the field within a year.

What was the downside with Mike Williams? He had a bad rookie year like most WR's and Muhammed doesn't have many years left. I believe the Bears will end up looking very foolish in a couple years when Williams puts in all together. Benson may not have had the work ethic problems that Williams had, but he has a whole set of personality issues himself.

The Bears can get Mike Williams in a couple of years when he becomes a player and gets over Detroit. Let him get schooled in the game before you go wishing he was on your roster. Benson will be ready to roll next year....Bradley was a much better find than Williams at WR, imo, but the knee injury was just unfortunate. I think with this kid, the Bears have the wideout of the future already on the team.

Thomas Jones is by any account a more talented and more versatile RB than Anthony Thomas ever was (which helps to explain why A-train never had Jones' numbers).
Really Otis? Obviously you made this statement without bothering to check that the facts would back you up.

Anthony Thomas best year with the Bears;

2001 ~ 14 games, 10 started ~ 278 carries / 1,183 yds for a 4.3 avg ~ 22 recpts / 178 yds for a 8.1 avg

Thomas Jones best year with the Bears;

2005 ~ 15 games, 15 started ~ 314 carries / 1,335 yds for a 4.3 avg ~ 26 recpts / 143 yds for a 5.5 avg

Anthony Thomas 2nd best year with the Bears;

2003 ~ 13 games, 13 started ~ 244 carries / 1,024 yds for a 4.2 avg ~ 2004 17 recpts / 132 yds for a 7.8 avg

Thomas Jones 2nd best year with the Bears;

2004 ~ 14 games, 14 started ~ 240 carries / 948 yds for a 4.0 avg ~ 56 recpts / 427 yds for a 7.6 avg

Looks to me like Thomas Jones best numbers with the Bears, DO NOT match A-Train's best numbers with the Bears. :no:

So if De Angelo didn't have a problem with trading away A-Train, in favor of Jones (who put up better numbers than Jones), then there's no doubt that if push comes to shove, he won't have a problem trading away Jones, in favor of Benson.
