Thoughts on Jason Taylor (1 Viewer)

What kind of season should Jason Taylor have this year in Saban's new defensive system? Saban wants to move him all around the feild to keep opponents guessing, and this should put him in a lot of play-making situations, One would think. His sacks have gone down the last couple of seasons, but I think he could have a better year than last season since he will be Saban's 'secret weapon', so to say. How does everyone else feel about his chances for a rebound season compared to last year's somewhat dismal statistical performance?

Taylor is really a man without a position in the 3-4.1) He is really too small to play DE as the responsibilities don't play to his strength.2) He doesn't have the ability to play in pass coverage at OLB either. That being said, I don't think the dolphins have the firepower to go the 3-4 full time this season. I think Taylor will be effective, not necessarily a stud. I also question his value to the team beyond 2005.

I agree. This will most likely be the last year for both Taylor and Z Thomas as Dolphins.

I just read on Sportsline that he's been practicing at OLB in the 3-4. Is there a chance sites such as mfl.com would switch him fro DE to LB? If that happens I'd really be hurting on the line

From my knowledge of the situation, Taylor practicing as an OLB in the 3-4 is really no surprise. Nick Saban will use some 3-4 mixed into the base 4-3 defense. The base defense is still a 4-3 and will stay that way, but the team is incorporating some 3-4 looks. No big deal really, so taylor rushes the QB from a stand up position every now and then. This might actually help Taylor's production and return him to the elite of D-linemen.

The Jets tried to use J Abraham this way last year, and it didn't work. He was simply better suited to be in a stance. He has the speed to play OLB in the 3-4, but he just never made the adjustment, and it was pretty much abandoned. After seeing that, I'm not sure waht to make of Taylor, and how much Miami will use the 3-4.... the problem is they have a shortage of NT/DT's.
