Thoughts on Lamont Jordan? (1 Viewer)

RB4 with RB2 potential.... but even IF he is the guy when Rhodes gets back, probably only a RB3.

Bad line, bad offense, bad back.
:goodposting: He has upside for being RB35 off the boards, but I certainly wouldn't depend on him as an every-week starter.

With three relatively easy games to start the season, and with Rhodes out of the picture for those games, he could be a buy low / sell high candidate.

Well freakin duh he's RB3 at most. As such tho I am definitely targeting a guy 1 yr removed from 1600/11. Hell no I don't expect that again, but neither do I see a year like last year. Between Culpepper and Russell, I, um -

never mind.

This guy was going in 1st rounds last year

Greg Knapp runs a WCO which means spreading the offence and more passes to the RBs.

I think Lamont Jordan will definately outplay his draft position this year.

You could do worse at RB4, but there is little reason for optimism, in my mind.

He would have been cut if he hasn't agreed to a paycut, he was too heavy last year, his attitude has been called into question, and he sat out recent practices recently after straining his back playing Home Run Derby with some teammates.

And that's just the stuff I can confirm. I've heard rumors that he smokes way too much pot, and is definitely in the doghouse.

Plus, the ZBS calls for disciplined and decisive running. Bad fit. Lamont danced way too much last year.

This is a good post. Jordan has all kinds of potential, but he just seems to scream: "I'm making millions already, so why work any harder?" But as a RB4, he is a steal with all kinds of upside.

I've read pretty decent things about his worth ethic this year. Don't know how it'll translate to the field, but everyone on the team had attitude problems last season, so I don't necessarily count that against him.

I don't expect Bush to be ready by the season opener, and with Rhodes out the first four games Jordan has a great opportunity to seize the gig. Could be a nice surprise, especially in ppr leagues as the Raiders are supposedly going to be dumping off a lot to the RBs.

No, everyone on the team did not have attitude problems. The entire defense, and most of the offense outside of Randy Moss, sucked it up. That is simply an untrue statement. If you want to dismiss his attitude last year because he was on a bad team, OK, but the team won't be so charitable. The people that decide who plays and who get carries might not be so quick to forgive him. And Jordan was out of shape last summer, before anyone knew how bad the Raiders were. It wasn't like he bulked up in November after losing interest. He was fat in August. And he has missed practice time again. As for his work ethic this year, link? I haven't recalled hearing much about Lamont at all.

In my last draft I grabbed him as my RB#4 and am hoping he can do something the first few weeks ( games against Det and Cle ) and can possibly sell high before Rhodes comes back week 5

As for the attitude, Jerry Porter seems to have been forgiven, no? Are you going to tell me he didn't have a much worse attitude than LJ? I have no idea what Jordan is going to do this season, but from what I understand he is very much in the mix and it'll be up to him to show he can carry the load. I do not think the current coaching staff has it out for him, so we'll see if Jordan can earn the gig.

He's definitely in the mix. In fact, he should considered be the front-runner. But that's because of his talent and his contract, and Rhodes' situation, not for anything he's done since 2005 ended.

And believe me, no one wants me to be wrong more than me. And I'm a Lamont guy, or I was. A quick search will show me arguing with LawFitz last year, incorrectly, that Jordan was going to be as good as 2005 Lamont.

Some more quotes on Lamont this summer:

Phil Barber:

RB LaMONT JORDAN: Thanks to a back injury, Jordan has missed more than half of the Raiders' practices during camp. Coach Lane Kiffin has repeatedly stressed that Jordan could play if the regular season were upon us, but day after day he sits. Can't blame a guy for an injury, but his inactivity can't help his prospects for a big season, or the Raiders'. More important, Jordan has looked a little lethargic even when he suits up. We've seen him drop several passes.

Jason Jones:

Sunday's practice report

NAPA - LaMont Jordan's status with the Raiders was a question mark much of the spring until he agreed to a pay cut to stay with the team.

Then the Raiders drafted Michael Bush. They also signed Dominic Rhodes.

And during training camp, Adimchinobe Echemandu has been the surprise of camp, according to coach Lane Kiffin. Echemandu has looked the best among all the backs in camp.

But Jordan, he's been in and out of practice with a bad back. It bothered him last season, too.

Jordan sat out Saturday's practice and was out today. Kiffin said there's still the preseason to evaluate veterans, but one has to wonder what Kiffin is thinking about Jordan.

Kiffin loves to say "everything you do counts" and right now there isn't a lot on the field that counts for Jordan during training camp.

The team would take a cap hit letting Jordan go. Also, there's Rhodes four-game suspension to start the season.

Would Kiffin be comfortable with Echemandu and Justin Fargas as his top-2 tailbacks going into the season?

I wouldn't put it past him.

As of now, Jordan hasn't done enough things that count on the field to be the unquestioned No. 1 running back. Jordan would tell you he is the starter.

Kiffin said if there was a game to be played, Jordan could play, balky back withstanding.

There's a game coming up - the preseason opener at home against Arizona this Saturday.

That would be a nice time for Jordan to show Kiffin he can show up when it counts.

Fargas looked better than him last year, and his back has prevented him from participating in more than half the practices this summer.

Personaly, I am targeting Rhodes toward the end of drafts, and am pretty much ignoring Jordan, unless he really slips.
