Tiki Barber, can he do it again? (1 Viewer)

Tiki Barber has been amazing the last 2-3 years. He's cut down on the fumbling problems, he's breaking the long runs, and he gets TONS of passes (gold in 1 pt per reception leagues)

Now he's talking about life after football. He sees what has happened to C.Martin, who he really likes and respects.

Does anyone think he'll walk away after this year, assuming the Giants do NOT make it to the SB?

Can he repeat his 2005 numbers?

How far do you let him slide in a new dynasty league starting this year? Knowing he may have 1-2 years tops?

No doubt.

There are better long term options for dynasty leagues but few better short term ones.

There are several threads on this. I think retirement timing depends on when he get a broadcasting offer. I also think one of the reasons he's taling about it so much is so that people in the media know he could be available.

I agree Chaka. But that's why i have NO idea where he should go in a dynasty. Yeah, he could help you win a SB this year. But do you start a new long term dynasty team drafting a guy in the first few rounds who may be one and done? Two max? (does anyone think he'll play any longer than that with all this retirement straight to TV talk??)

If it's a new league, play for the now. Build your team up with solid producers that can get you the championship this year and fill your lineup with nice up and coming players or prospects. You can also try and land an early draft pick from another owner if your team tanks and somebody needs a guy like Tiki for the final playoff push.Let everyone else worry about the diamond in the rough. You'll have other opportunities to build other than your first pick.

I love the guy, have had him as a keeper for 2 years now, and hope he can reproduce most of his numbers from the previous years. Though I am realistic and do not count on it. In re-draft leagues i see him as the #4-5 pick, especially in PPR leagues. But in a dynasty league i see him slip, possibly even out of the 1st round.....which is fine by me, I'd grab my #2 back in round 1 (ie:Bush) and wait till rd.2 and take Tiki, he will be a top 10 back w/o worry this year, but as far as his long term status, I worry. I just hope he starts off solid, then i can possibly use him as trade bait, especially with him being a keeper option, for some of the new blood that will w/o a doubt be available for keeps in future years to come (ie: Maroney, Norwood,..etc)But do not dispair, if your in a re-draft, grab him in rd.1!!! Tiki has a chip on his shoulder somewhat with Jacobs lurking behind him, and he loves to prove the nay-sayers wrong more than any back in the league.

Yeah. What he said.

I think it would be REALLY hard to pass up Steve Smith, CJ, Fitz, or Holt in the 2nd round for Barber though.

I think Barber will have no problem with the yardage in 2006, but I doubt his TDs will be that great. It is all Jacobs at the stripe ALL THE TIME.

In a dynasty league or redraft? No way in hell will Tiki ever slip to the 2nd round in a re-draft league. As for a dynasty, I'd still take him over the WR's w/o a hesitation, reasons being as such:1. A #1 RB is worth more than a #1 WR in "most" leagues.2. He doesnt have to compete for carries with a solid #2 like Holt(Bruce), CJ(Houszmanzadeh or however its spelt), Fitz(Boldin), S.Smith(Keyshawn + Hammy problems in years past) will have to compete for more targets.3. He is on a definite playoff team and has a passing game to help keep the safety from inching up in the box.4. He has been consistent year in year out, last complaint on him was his fumbling prowess and thats been corrected.5. A WR emerges every year as the new "deep" threat, but a RB with consistent point production is a rare thing in this league.6. The WR pool is much deeper than that of the RB. If you can take Tiki in the 2nd round of a dynasty league....DO IT!!!! He will be the #1 guy for you while your rookies are groomed into his replacement in a year or 2.I' ma JETS fan too, so don't think this is all homer pride. I'm simply stating the upside in FF possibilities.
