Time to pick up Roman Harper ... (1 Viewer)

I have had Roman Harper on my watch list. He has played pretty well and consistently in the first 2 games. But this weekend he faces Atl who like to run the ball A LOT!! I looked at the defensive stats for Atlanta's opponents in the previous 2 games and guess what position leads the list in tackles??

That's right...SS

Notice how S. Williams and J. Phillips were hot pickups the last 2 weeks...

So I picked up Harper (dumped Boulware). Now I just have to find a way to get him into my lineup for this weekend. I already have Sanders, Rhodes, Gamble as my 3 DB starters :confused:

I am predicting a big game from Roman this week vs. Atl. :banned:

 
You're either very lucky, play in a league by yourself or play with elementary school kids...great pickup. :thumbup:

Roman Harper was on my pickup list the first waivers I could get him on and he was drafted in other leagues already. So you must be in a small league or guppies!

Actually my league is a 12 teamer that starts 9 IDPs each week. 3DB, 3DL, and 3 D (either DB or DL). It is my first IDP league. I am not sure of the IDP knowlege of the other members since it is a custom yahoo league that had a vacancy and I joined. I do not know the other people in the league. Some seem to know what they are doing. Others do not.I probably have one of the better defenses in the league, thanks to this message board :thumbup:

I think Harper is pretty much a must start every week any way in your format, barring ridiculously good IDP's. I like him this week, but I grabbed him before the season.I'm not sure exactly what to make of the ATL option read offense, except that it is good for Vick, and anything that gets Vick/Dunn into the secondary will be good for safety tackles.
 
You guys are making it sound like Harper's been gone for months in serious leagues, but in my three Zealot leagues, I picked him up in week 1 waivers (6 days ago) in two of the leagues, and in the third I dropped out of the bidding in the week leading up to the season.

So his league is one week late on picking up a rookie who wasn't a clear starter until the third preseason game... no big deal.

 
I have picked up Harper and S. Williams as my 2 pickups in the zealots league after week 1.

Is J. Phillips worth a roster spot? I haven't seen him play at all, did he just have 2 good games and gonna fizzle or could he be worth it?

If you had to choose one for the season would it be Harper, Roy Williams or C. Hope? I have Williams and Hope. Harper is available. First year for IDP in our league. We are all learning.

That's a tough one. I would probably go w/ Harper and Hope. Williams is the better DB, but the Cowboys LBs and corners get many tackles.
 
Add another who took the leap. My league has only 25 man rosters, so IDP guys aren't rostered heavily. Starting 2 DL, 3 LB and 2 DB's, I have only rostered 2 DB's as of now. I dropped N.Collins for him. Should he be gone (IF) I want to change out for another DB, not a big problem. Now Sackman, just what kind of cars do you sell? Your post was quite convincing. :)

 
thanks to this forum, i grabbed him after week 1. Very pleased with the results so far, even though i didnt start him last week

i'd keep williams (i like to stockpile blue chip pedigree type talents), so the choice would be between hope & harper for me... i'd rather have hope, but it is close... hope already had a top 15 season in 05 (some scoring systems), & is a little more proven.
 
Kid was the leader (along with Demeco Ryans) of the Alabama defense the past couple of years (started his final 3 years there). All-SEC last year.

A coach's son. Smart, instinctive, always around the ball. Overstating the obvious, by all means grab him if he's available, especially in a dynasty league.

I agree with Bob about hiding blue chip IDP talent.I would only add that Roy Williams is and will continue to have a monster season at SS. The Pokes defense had a tough game on the road against a very good Jags team and, then, proceeded to drop hammer on the Skins. That defense will get a little better each week and it is clear that the team is starting to use Williams in a more proactive manner. I would most likely take Harper over Hope. Sorry for the multiple posts. Computer having issues.

I just picked up Harper this week too and am surprised I got him. He's been on my radar screen but I already had Josh Bullocks and was hesitant to have 2 safeties on the same squad. I'm not lacking at the position (Gibril and Madieu also). Amazingly Sean Jones was available too. I would've preferred Jones just to avoid the Saints tandem but I got outbid there. Kicked Eric Coleman to the curb after I couldn't get a taker in trade talks.

While I understand everybody around here has known about Harper for a good while, I still think he's a relative unknown outside FBG's.

 
would harper be a better choice than the 3 I have now? (we start one DB, one DL and a flex DB/DL)

K Bulluck (he's been great for me so far)

R Barber (been avove avg)

A Davis (I just picked him up because my other guy has a bye week this week)

Harper is avail on our ww as of right now

Last week I was torn between Harper and Shaun Williams. I picked up Williams and was happy to get his tackle totals from last week. Now he goes down and I am IR replacing him with Harper, who I probably should have taken in the first place.

Here's hoping Harper doesn't get hurt now that he realizes he is on my team.

 
How is this for clutch....

I am trailing by 4.5 points going intio tomorrow. My opponent is done and I have Roman Harper left. Had I picked up Jermaine Phillips I would have won. If Roman Harper gets 5 unassisted tackles or 3 unassisted tachles and a sack or an int I win. No pressure, kid.

I am in an eerily similar situation tonight. Based upon the number of points DB's are scoring against Atlanta, we should get it done.

4 tackles1 forced fumble1 pass defensed7 points in my league :thumbup: He has been a starter for me the past 2 weeks and will stay in my lineup

What stat source are you using? Harper had 4 tackles and a forced fumble on MFL. That's a lot different than no solos and 3 assists.
