Time to retire Favre... (1 Viewer)

I love the guy, and it will be a sad day for me when he decides to hang em up. He and Barry Sanders are two guys that made watching football fun no matter who they were playing. But, I have to agree that this was it for him. The Packers were a blessed team this year to make it as far as they did. This was his chance to go out like Elway, and he sucked the big one when it mattered. I hated watching it. There was something strange in the air on Sunday, because Tom Brady looked like Tom Bledsoe too. So...

RIP Brett

Take it from a Bills fan. When you've got a great QB, don't run him out of town any sooner than he wants to go...

Kelly

Collins

Flutie

Johnson

Van Pelt

Bledsoe

Holcomb

Losman

Edwards

????

This is key. If Tony Dungy can make up his mind in a few week, Favre should as well. If he waits it out like he does every other year then it'll just prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that he is, in fact, an attention whore.

Not sure what you mean. Did you predict the Packers to be one game away from the superbowl this year?

I think he is wondering, (as am I) what in the heck you mean by blessed? Aren't all teams blessed that make it this far? Aren't the Pats blessed because they have been virtually injury free all year? Aren't the Giants blessed to win 3 straight road games to make it to the SB? I think any team that survives this long in the season is blessed in some sort of way. Of course Packer fans didn't expect our team to go 14-4 when the season started. That said it still feels like we have unfinished business to take care of next year. And the whole RIP Brett crap is just silly. I'm not going to even address it all over again why you shouldn't be putting this loss squarely on his shoulders. If your interested then re-read the thread.

You know what I mean. DO we have to take things so literally? In that case, wouldn't your last name be 72???

Agree with the last part. But I'd give a player a little more slack than a coach for two reasons. First, you have to give the player time to heal up. Second, if a player of Favre's age quits, it's over. Dungy can always come back in a year or two.

Hey CTSU,

It is interesting that when we say the running game was not happening we tend to blame the RB. Personally, I thought the O-line got manhandled and that was the problem.

I think Grant has proven he can put up good numbers and Jackson has promise too. Not too sure on Morency.

In general, I am not in favor of drafting on offensive skill position in the first 3 rounds for GB. I would like to see those picks go to OL, DL, DB in some fashion. The only exception might be going after a truly talented TE.

OOK!
Totally agree. Not sure how anyone who watched the game could fail to come to your conclusion. Both our o-line and d-line got dominated. That was the key difference last night. Though to be fair, Favre didn't play well either.
I agree with you both and think that the Packers need help on the OL to handle tough defenses in the playoffs. I just didn't see anything special from Grant and think another RB would be able to make things happen when there's nothing there. Grant did look great during the season so it may be too early to write him off, but if Stewart is there at the Packers' pick I think it would be a mistake to pass on him.
Ask any packer fan and they'll tell you that Grant is talented. The packers need to upgrade at OG not RB. Darren College is too inconsistent to be counted on for a team with superbowl aspirations.

Seems like he comes unglued when it matters. What and INT throwing machine.
Which is why, perhaps, that even though he has all the pretty records/numbers, when people speak of the Greatest QB of all-time, his name is rarely mentioned at the top of that list.
hey beer boy.... give your top of that list..like montana what favre had to have.. and montana wouldnt even be in top 50..... he like bradshaw ,aikman, montana were>>>>"products of the system".. came into a hell of a team.. cant even imagine the rings favre would have if he had what aikman and montana had... yikes...

Another record for Brett Favre. With his two interceptions today he moves into a tie with Jim Kelly for the most all-time postseason interceptions, 28.
which means he must be good to get to postseason that often to attempt that many passes.. an dunfortunately throw sone ints.. but hey.. its your story.. and when you heave the ball as much as favre..that happens.... no other QB has made people watch the game than him... he is the LAST true real football player.. everyone else is just $$$

The Favre haters have had to bite their tongues for a whole season. Favre just had the best season of any QB over the age of 35, and now all the bashers want him to retire. The Packers played like crap yesterday. Grant ran the ball 14 times for 28 yards, and the defense played well below their normal standards (see Harris, Al, and has anyone seen Nick Barnett? Anywhere?). Thats a recipe for disaster for any QB, Favre, Brady, Manning, Montana etc.
add in no blitzing on eli.. add in no 5 man wr sets.. the coaches choked this game... young coach got schooled by coughlin... thats horrid.. only rush 14 times... 1st 2 plays were right on que.. than gb went south.. dont understand coaching game plans at all.. THEY sucked

Favre had a great season, and I hope he keeps playing, but the first part of your statement there is false. Elway's last two seasons (he was 37 and 38) were both better than the season Favre just had.
WRONG!!!ELWAY...1997..280/502..3635YDS..27TDS,11 INTS..2.2INT %ELWAY..1998..210/356..2806 YDS 22TDS/10INTS..2.8 INT%FAVRE..2007..356/535...4157YDS...28 TDS..15 INT...2.8 INT %looks like id take favre again,,completion % is way better

I find it ironic that the frozen tundra was the downfall of the Packers Super Bowl run. The old man could not handle the weather. I think if this game was played in even the 20's, the Pack win. The Mississippi boy could fool em while he was young but age and being from the South had everything to do with his play. You could see it it his eyes and in the form of frozen snot.
Just dumb. Why does Favre have to be the only lightning rod for this loss? Why don't you rip AL Harris for getting beat like a red headed step child by Plax? Why don't you rip Jarret Bush for not falling on the fumble instead of trying to scoop it up? Why don't you rip on the DC for not finding a way to get a pass rush on Eli so Harris and Co didn't have to cover for so long? Why don't you rip on the OC and McCarthy for abandoning the run and the short passing game? Why don't you rip on John Ryan for his awful punts and the punt and kickoff coverage units for giving the Giants good field position everytime? Can someone put an APB out on Greg Jennings and James Jones? Blaming this all on Favre is just plain stupid and you know nothing about football if this is what you see after watching last nights game. You did watch didn't you?
AMEN!!! someone that knows football

Listening to Favre post game on ESPN. Now he says that even if the Pack would have won today, he still isn't certain if he is coming back next season. Didn't he say a few weeks ago he felt younger than ever and that his daughters want him to play next season and that he wanted to be back?He changes his mind more than my GF...
When Farve loses he is tired..when he wins he feels like a kid..Farve had a great season but it is time to pass the torch.
There are 32 teams in the NFL. Name 10 QB that are currently playing better than Favre. Didn't think so. Thanks for playing. When Favre retires, the QB pool gets watered down more. Careful what you wish for.
BradyPalmerBig BenAndersonManning x 2RomoDelhommeBulgerGerrandMcNabbBreesThere's 12 I'd rather have starting for me next year....I'll throw in Sage Rosenfels and Todd Collins to boot.
you need more brew... please become a GM so we can watch you faill you are extremely dumb... brady is up there..no doubt.. peyton is up there no doubt... but all the rest.. NO WAY... big ben..good.. but choked in SB..thank god for randle elplamer..with his weapons still cant get anything done in post season..passanderson..??? really?? played 1 season?? and you rather have him?? eli.. absolutely not.. my god..gmen def won that game.. eli had all day.. his #'s are horrid for his career.. wow..idiotrome..??? really???? cant even win 1 post season game... with all that talent around him.. gimme a break..bulger..hell. i 'd rather have testeverde that him.. need walking canes and a wheelchair..cant stay healthy and u want him??mcnabb... good qb in wrong team.. he needs to move.. but jury is out on him yetbrees..good qb.. like him.. but not even close to favre

Not sure.He got a little flack last year for doing it that close to the Super Bowl. He might wait until its over.However...at this point...why does he have to announce anything? He is under contract to play football for the Green Bay Packers...unless he is announcing his retirement...why should we expect all of this crap?Answer...because the media will keep asking the questions and building this up as some big thing.

Ummm...Montana came into a team without a whole lot. He won before the likes of Craig and Taylor and Rice were around. The system was just put into place and he ran it perfectly...and funny...its the system that Favre played in (or a reasonable version of it)

I'm pretty sure Brett will be back but you never know. I rememeber Elway talking about the pounding that his body took his last couple of years and how hard it was to recover each week as he got older. Its tough to know how much pain Favre goes through now that he is older and the recovery is not as quick. I'm guessing he thinks he has a shot to contend next year so he will be back.
