Tinnitus (1 Viewer)

Give it a try, seriously bud. You have nothing to lose, except more hearing.  And the tinnitus will never go away.  You are stuck with it for life, and it will get worse.

My father was totally deaf in his one ear, and had tinnitus in that same ear.  That's how bad it can get.
yup, all happening in that one ear now.

Man this is a depressing conversation.   :kicksrock:

I was about your age (a little younger) when mine started to get bad too, but I had no idea a hearing aid would help.  I wished someone would have told me.  I went quite a few years in pretty much horrible misery, until I was told about it and found some relief.  I'm 47 now.

Do yourself a favor and at least check it out.  It might work, it might not.  You owe it to yourself to try it.  I know what you're going through.  Ain't fun.

This is very true, but for me, that part was very depressing. But, about the time I was coming to grips with getting them, I had a friend my same age be diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was a pretty good slap in the face for me to quit the "woe is me" crap over needing to get hearing aids.

That said, it is a bit of a hurdle to get over. I have worn glasses since I was in like 5th grade. I probably had a similar reaction when I got those but after 40 years or so of wearing them, I just accept them as a fact of life. For hearing aids, there was something about them that really messed with me mentally. But once I had them, it seriously took very little time to just accept them as part of my daily life.

I wouldn't go without them now for anything if I can help it.

Hearing issue is really in just one ear so hasn't impacted me to much (other than annoying my wife).  Given I am bald and shave my head I don't really want anything visible so might consider one of those in ear ones.  Either way I need to head to ENT doctor in the near term.
I'm virtually bald - cut my hair about once a week with no guard. They really aren't all that visible. If you want, I could send you some candid photos of me. They really aren't visible unless you are looking for them.

If this baby is as practical and affordable as they make it seem...

Because Lyric is placed in the ear canal near the eardrum by a trained professional, it is the world’s only 100% invisible hearing aid.

12 years since last post. I will open back up. I recently within the past month been diagnosed with tinnitus. Dr says nothing I can do about it. Is there any success stories out there ? anybody have any luck with any remidies , suppliments or anything they may help? Im desperate so anything that may help at least reduce it would be appreciated... thanks

Nope.

It sucks.

Audiologist recommended hearing aids...but I currently don't have the resources for them.

I have had it for 20ish years and the older I get, the worse it gets (seems that way anyway)...

I put earbuds in at night just to get to sleep to drown it out...

This is one of the reasons I sometimes believe I'm just "living" in a simulation.  I've been around since Yah_Shoor_Yoobetchya grew a tail and missed out on a low member number, but I've never seen this thread.  And it just so happens that I've been trying to treat my tinnitus lately as its gotten pretty annoying in my left ear.

I'm trying B12 and D3 vitamins.  Thanks to a few of you in this thread, I'll throw in those Youtube methodologies and see if any of this helps.

dammit.

it's gotten so much worse since I last posted. loud and all the time. and I'm noticeably not hearing things now. and even less funds for the recommended hearing aids.

\side rant- this is getting to the point where I won't be able to do my job adequately. but insurance... what I pay for "just in case I need health help" tells me to #### off. somehow hearing aids are non-essential? eye-glasses too, for that matter. I have to pay out of pocket for the entire things.

Probably close to 50 years I've been dealing with this.  It truly sucks.  I need something on at night making noise to sleep.  Radio, TV, whatever, but I must have sound.  I've tried several "solutions" but all were nothing but snake oil, at least for me.

It started with a firecracker that I waited too long to throw that blew up right as it left my hand.  Then I jumped in a pool right after.  That was painful and probably somehow contributed to the severity of it.

To say I've gotten used to it isn't the right terminology.  I guess I've learned to tune it out at least some of the time.  But when the ringing changes pitch or whatever, that is GD annoying.

Mine has gotten noticeably worse over the past year. Not really sure what to do about it, so I just live with it.  What other choice is there?

How's your sleep? With me and many others the tinnitus volume increases when we're tired, over-tired, or don't sleep enough. Waking up too soon can have the volume at terrible levels rendering me a little deaf. Add that I'm a life-long insomniac and well, not good. So lately, as in just a couple weeks, I have focussed on sleeping, even over-sleeping. The tinnitus never goes away but the volume is way way down. And the side benefit is I feel great with extra sleep.

For decades I have used white noise, rain sounds, ocean waves, etc. for sleep and masking the tinnitus. A few years ago binaural beats were getting lots of publicity for helping with tinnitus. I tried. Not for me. Not nearly as good as the other masking/sleep aiding noises I just mentioned. But I have recently been using non-voice asmr. Getting ridiculously good results inducing deep sleep and the bi-product of quieted tinnitus. If asmr in that link seems a little bizarre (it is), then a crackling fireplace can induce the autonomous sensory meridian response (tingles) that is followed by deep relaxation (that is followed by a reduction in tinnitus).

tinnitustalk thread on asmr

/to your side rant. I am wearing this right now so I can hear the NBA game at a low volume at my pc. It's been a god send for voice telephone calls (here and in the car), streaming video, watching sports, etc. No need to drop $1500 before trying a simple amp for the ear.

Good luck, thoughts and prayers to all of us.

thanks, CC- so much good info there. sorry you've got this too.

I sleep well. I should get more, but I don't have a problem getting to sleep or staying asleep. with work/life stress, I do tend to wake up too easily... but if work/life isn't stressful, I sleep like a baby. a beautiful, fat, thinning hair, ringing ears, baby.

we use a white noise/air filter at night- but mostly to drown out the sounds of NYC. white noise tends to exacerbate my tinnitus, and deafening me when the frequencies sync with the ringing in my ears. AC and other machinery really does a job on me- I'm practically deaf riding the subway.

I haven't really figured out why it's gotten worse lately. other than not being able to exercise due to some achilles issues, nothing has really changed in my life since the decline.

I'm debating doing a Master Cleanse for a week or so... purge the body, and try to go cold-turkey on coffee/caffeine. I doubt that helps.

... oh, just thought of this... I was wearing headphones for a stretch for zoom meeting as I WFH. maybe that... but it's not like anybody's yelling or anything.

and I hadn't thought of low-budget hearing aids.

I previously went to check some out at a spot recommended by my audiologist. there was nothing less than 4k... but they were almost invisible, and supposedly work incredibly well.

like I said- I'm at a point where I'm going to need this for work... and I'm going back into an office at a new job next month. I don't feel comfortable (vanity) with something bigger in my ear(s) in a work environment- but I could see using them at home.

I think I'm going to try the one you linked for home use- thanks. will check the insurance my new spot is giving and see if I can get any coverage for more slim aids for work.

My wife has it. Driving her nuts. She’s undergone a bunch of tests including an MRI on her brain to rule the bad stuff out. Now doing an ultrasound. I want to help her but don’t know how

We all want to help her and don't know how. I wouldn't share this with her because she may hate hearing it, but between you and me, the first year is just the worst. We do learn to live with it. Mine is terrible atm, and I am used to it.

I'm 100% convinced that salt intake has an effect on my tinnitus, at least for me. It isn't just my theory since there are many studies showing possible links. I cook most of the week and can control my salt use and my tinnitus is lower during the week. But when we go out to eat, I almost always notice an increase in volume that night and the following day. And it's not that I'm listening for it either. I've had it long enough to be able to block it out but when it peaks, it is still unavoidably noticeable.

or maybe it's just that I drink more on weekends.  :banned:

Some people who contract Long Covid get Tinnitus as one of the symptoms.  We have helped hundreds of patients with Long Covid induced Tinnitus.  Unfortunately, it won't help other types of Tinnitus.  If you're suffering from this and want to learn about our approach, PM me.

Echoing this (well, I'd hear the echo except for my tinnitus).

First time seeing the thread. I've had random, minor tinnitus for as long as I can remember. I always felt it was mild and would go away within a few minutes. It is now constant when there is low, or no noise (especially after waking up). It picked up suddenly at the same time I started feeling like my ears were always plugged about 18 months ago.

Quick interweb research led me to believe there's nothing that will help, so accepted it.

Now, after reading this thread, I think I'm a one  symptom long covid case. Thanks Chet.

I haven't had covid.

Pretty sure I have this.  Seems more noticeable recently, doesn’t really bother me, no issues sleeping, but I’m definitely more aware of it, so assume this is something that will get worse over time

Not necessarily.

Mine went from nothing to full blast one day and went away a few weeks later. It came back shortly after and I've had it for like 20 years now. It rises and falls but I've learned to deal with it for the most part. At least until this thread is bumped...😆
