TO is an injury risk (1 Viewer)

I have been looking over Terrell Owens stats over the last several years and with the exception of 2001 he has not played in a full 16 games dated back to 1999! so 6 out of 7 years he has not completed a season.

disclosure: he has still finished in the top five WR in 4 of those years, amazing.

but the point is, all i hear about is the attitude problems, but no one addresses the injury concerns.

I have the 10th pick in my league in a 12 team format no PPC. and I am considering taking a WR with the 2nd pick. I am trying to figure out who is the best WR out there. there seems to be a very large descepency amoung people. but has anyone considered the injury problems of TO?

Considering moer than half of those games missed were due to either suspension or a play in which any other human being wouldv'e had at the very least a broken leg (Williams' horsecollar tackle)... no, I don't think he can be labeled injury prone.

Hi srno,The key point is your disclosure. I hear lots of people talk about the injuries. Especially lately with the hamstring stuff.

But it's not just that, T.O. unfortunately has shown he can miss time for other reasons. Remember that about this time last year, there were serious concerns if he'd even play at all for the Eagles. You knew he was one bad move away from being sent home. That's the same net effect as an injury concern. All we're worried about is missed time.

His situation now is better of course but it's not great. I don't think anyone would honestly say they'd be stunned if T.O. and Parcells got into it he missed time because of it.

He's been extremely productive though. And people love production.

On average, I think a WR misses one game per year due to injury (I remember seeing that, maybe from Maurile... sorry, no link). TO has missed 9 games from 1996 to 2004 (9 years). At least one of those games missed was for a suspension. You could even count no game missed to injury in 2005 for half a season. So he has missed no more than 8 games to injury in 9.5 years.

So I don't see why he's an injury risk any more than other WRs in the league.

I've washed my hands of him. Too many good young WRs who don't get suspended or fight with their QB available. Hell, with all the risks involved, I'll take Randy Moss ahead of Owens at this point.

Drinen compiled some data in Everybody Is An Injury Risk which is admittedly dated as it ranges from 1988 to 1998, but still it would be a good estimate.
FINE PRINT: the data set consisted of [WRs] who played at least 8 games and averaged at least 6 fantasy points per game between 1988 and 1998. I threw out any players who retired the next year.
G no. AGNY PFS PFS% ----------------------------- 16 324 14.5 210 64.813-15 95 14.1 49 51.6 8-12 42 12.6 17 40.5So using the AGNY (average games next year), you get 4698 + 1339 + 529 = 6556 games played by 324 + 95 + 42 = 461 players = 14.25 average games played.So about 1.75 games missed per WR on average in that decade.

I drafted T.O recently in the 4th round :bag: (if memory serves me correctly) and I chose him over Moss. They both have issues, but I'm not concerned about T.O.'s injury..............it's his attitude.

Thanks GregR. This is the study I was referring to but did not have the link.It confirms that Owens is not an injury risk. He has other issues, but this is not one of them.
