To split or not to split? (1 Viewer)

Ok...just looking for opinions. Having a week 17 championship sets people up for some serious problems with sitting players when there is nothing to play for. I got a text from the guy I play seeing if I am interested in splitting regardless. Here is who I have first, then I will put who he has.

My lineup will probably be:

QB - Drew Brees...team will try to get him the passing record - good news.

RB - Sammy Morris...NE still has something to play for and early game.

RB - Jerious Norwood...Brandon Jacobs will sit and hopefully Turner gets rested prior to playoffs after getting out to a lead against the woeful Rams.

WR - Steve Smith...stud and something to play for.

WR - Greg Jennings...something to play for and playing DET

WR - Randy Moss...something to play for

TE - Witten or Owen Daniels...both good plays if Witten is hurt, Daniels is quality

His:

QB - Brett Favre...going down the tube...Peyton Manning carried the team down the stretch, but will sit in classis Dungy style...hooray

RB - DeAngelo Williams - stud with something to play for still...boo

RB - Chris Johnson or Frank Gore...Johnson likely to sit a lot and Gore has been hurt and may not play much if at all.

WR - Isaac Bruce...can't catch a td in two straight games, can he?

WR - Lance Moore...good numbers for Moore mean good numbers for Brees

WR - Hines Ward...Titans stingy D will make it hard for anyone

TE - Kevin Boss...may be injured.

I really see my team with way more upside save for my RB #2. My big hesitation is that I was in the championship game last week in another league as the heavy favorite and my players crapped the bed and I lost.

Should I split the pot in half or go for it all? The choice would be $340 with the split or $680 for the win.

I think your a 60/40, possibly 65/35, favorite, so i'd go for the win.

If you had his team i would have said split it.

And I thought this post would be about, say, splitting up a QB/WR on your team or something (e.g. start Rodgers and sit Jennings) or some such.

You play to win, dude. Plain and simple.

One side note, Atlanta has something to play for, too, so I wouldn't be so sure that Turner will get THAT much rest in the game vs. the Rams.

If it's a winner-take-all league, always split. There are just too many things you can't predict.

If not, what's the payout system now? I wouldn't advise a 50-50. I'd say you should split 40/40 and play for the extra 20.

:banned: Looks like it's winner take all. I'd def. split or at least modify the payouts so that you're playing for some money, but not for all of it.

There is a $100 payout for winning in week 16 then winner take all in week 17. I may propose each owner getting $100 then playing for the rest.

I agree that my team SHOULD win. However, my team last week should have won as well. (damn you Warner) So, I don't want to ealk away empty handed.

Don't be so quick to discount his Hines Ward vs the Titans' stingy D. I did last week and the week before vs. Ravens, and it cost me big.

I am in the same situation, and decided to split.. I am far more concerned with actually winning the game, but like the idea of guaranteed money too! (Dynasty)

I always split. Sometimes it's been offered to me, other times I've made the offer. Although I have never been in a winner-take-all league, I would just as soon get the money part out of the way. To me, the money is never the issue, it's the bracelet ( or trophy or ring, or whatever).

For the record, I have done the split 4 times in 5 years between two leagues. I only won one championship during that time, so I could be considered a bit biased on the split idea.

first gets 840, 2nd gets 440

I just split ( 600 each) with the winner getting the exra 80

I think my team is the favorite, but to many things can happen in week 17.

Last week I went against the highest scoring team in my league in the championship game. I didn't have a chance, but I was the higher seed (#1 vs #3) thanks to low points against and thus a slightly better record. I approached the guy about a split and he flat out turned me down. I might have even gone for a 60/40 in his favor...but he mocked my offer.

I wound up smoking him by 20+ points. Thanks DeAngelo, Antonio and Pierre!

So if you lose you make an extra $160. I would not split for that, I would go for the win, that is why I play. No matter what anyone says, if you split and win you have no bragging rights because you gave up on your team.
