TO taunts Ray Lewis (1 Viewer)

T.O. :headbang: His celebrations alone are worth the price of admission
Agreed:TOs Sharpie, Ray Lewis Mock Dance, Throwing the Football at the TO has BO sign, Ripping down the "It takes one to know one sign", Joe Horns Cell Phone, Chad Johnson's pulling the sign out of the snow etc are all worth the price of admission.
I think they should allow anything as long as it doesn't delay the game, if the PAT teams can get on the field in a timely manner still, they should be allowed to do whatever they watn...although I understand banning foriegn objects in a player's socks, etc... although that was cool...

Don't forget the "I am the greatest" pose on the Dallas starThat one is the best alltime
followed by a spike on the star in the same game... lol(I think it was the same game...)

Stuff like that is why I cancelled my NFL ticket last year. I have told the NFL by mail that I cancelled my ticket and I have also stopped buying NFL merchandise. I am still watching though and I still love football. I still play FF. Mark my words 10 years from now the NFL will be what the NBA is now. A joke. I hate writing this and it really bothers me to see something I love so much going down the ####ter.
I can't stand it when a player does nothing all day, then celebrates on the field with a first down catch while his team is down 20 points like he just won he freakin Lombardi. But what T.O. did today was totally different. He stepped up and made a huge play - like he as been doing all year - and used it to fire up his team and the crowd. It is a perfect example of a player living up to his mouth. He was personally challenged by Ray Lewis, the Ravens team, and all the T.O. haters out there and he has proven them (and me) wrong about his skills and desire. As far as the NFL going the way of the NBA, I don't see it. The problem with the NBA is that their primary motivation is marketing and pushing their product, trying to find the next Michael Jordan that will make them billions, instead of actually delivering a good product to the fans. They seized on the attitude and showboating present in their key market segment and hyped it to new levels, creating a positive feedback loop that has gotten out of control. The NFL has taken the opposite route. But IMHO in the NFL they are FAR FAR outweighed by the likes of Peyton Manning, Priest Holmes, Ray Lewis, Marvin Harrison and many other players who put the game and winning first and their merchandising deals second.

Ray Ray is just mad 'cause TO did his dance better than he does!!! :) I was worried about TO though, thought Ray might be sharpening the knives on the bench after he seen that one!! :loco: That was a classic, was still laughing about it hours later. I'd much rather see TO do a dance after scoring a td, than see Big Tuff Ray stand up and celebrate when he tackles Levens after a 5 yard gain. Which one is more ridiculous?

That dance was just flawless. As an Eagles hater, that was just awesome. Big props to TO this week, even if I'm not a fan.
 I can't STAND Owens - I think he's a not-very-bright, egotistical, ball hog who cries when he doesn't see the ball. That said, I think his showmanship is something his teammates get fired up around, and something that fans of his team love to see. And, like Chase, I thought the dance was perfect, perfectly timed, and hilarious. If Ray Lewis was really offended by it and really called TO a coward after the game, he needs to find himself a new sport. In-your-face-manship is part of the game of professional football. Always has been. And Ray Lewis is one of the biggest poo-talkers on the field. He deserves some of his own medicine - I am fairly sure the QBs and RBs he's tackled don't appreciate him dancing over them afterwards.

Joe say we will be fine and this has been going on forever. I disagree. These things have not been going on forever. I have been watching NFL for 28 years and it is not heading in a good direction. Anyway I feel like an old guy moaning now.
I think that says it all.

I re-iterate my prior point - that says it all. LOL!Seriously, I am sure if you thought real hard about the last 28 years of football that you have watched that you realize that the game REALLY wasn't much different in the early 80s regarding the entertainment/showmanship aspect of it.

This can all be traced back to the original sinner, Billy White-Shoes Johnson. Ever since his scandalous, immoral, self aggrandizing endzone displays of profanity, the NFL and society at large have been going to hell in a handbasket!:colostomybag:

:rotflmao: Yup - society has gone downhill ever since that guy decided he wanted to celebrate touchdowns.

I really don't like the celebrations. But anyone who says the league has gone down hill lately was paying no attention to that clown Gastineau two decades ago.

Man don't you watch NFL Films? Society has been destroyed because of Homer Jones, the man who invented spiking the ball. Yes, this was in the 60s.

i hate philly sports more than pretty much anything in the world, yet i am becoming a huge TO fan this year.(i dont even own him) what he did today was hysterical. you better believe he practiced that all week :rotflmao: as for Ray calling him a coward... Dont let him score. he came over the middle. knock him out next time.

Really how can you not like Owens, He is a jackass sometimes, but he is pretty good.
That is flawed logic. That is like saying you should like a bittchy woman just because she is good looking. Owens might be a great player, but he is still an arrogant idiot and I do not like him at all.

Very well said. It was hilarious. That being said, TO may be my least favorite human being on the face of the Earth. I would talk about all of the reasons I dislike the guy but I've done it before. :wall:

 He's nearly classless. Constantly nipping at Garcia, then claiming the media stirs it all up. Showboating as a posterchild for poor sportsmanship. I can't stand him. What I hate even more is that NO ONE CAN STOP HIM!!! I didn't think he'd do anywhere near this well and I hate seeing a poor sport enjoy such success. Well, let's see how this plays out. What's he going to say about Garcia this week?

would you want him on your real life or fantasy team?If you say no your either a liar or insane...

That's a tough question. Especially since I am hurting on WRs. I didn't draft him when I had the chance because I don't like him. He would help definitely but I would feel dirty. Very, very dirty. He just defines, to me, poor sportsmanship. He's not the only one out there and he's nowhere near a criminal like many other jerks, but he is a classless braggart witha hardon for Garcia. He's an embarassment.

all the TO haters are lameass. So the guy celebrates and gives people something to talk about. He plays his guts out, and constantly finds ways to excel in the limelight that he has partially cast on himself. He may not be YOUR type of personality, but everyone must admit he brings serious game to the table and is the best WR in the game right now (due to a certain someone's injury)TO isn't half the ###-clown Ray Lewis is. That guy never stops talking ####. TO celebrates after he has done something to help his team win, which is every week. He is a true competitor and the KING of the endzone celebration. People who say he is bad for the game are really just saying they don't like his personality. The truth is he is one of the biggest stars in a league loaded with them, and they come in all different packages. I for one respect a guy who has the guts to say whatever he wants to the media, cause a stir, and then go out on Sunday and light people up. He has clearly won the respect of his new teammates, and Reid loves the guy.Safe to say those people who said he would be "cancer" and that he "may" be a top ten WR this year were living out of their head. Philly is the best team in the league because of TO, and it can no longer be denied. I love the guy.

From an ESPN article:

Lewis, who laid one hit on Owens among his nine tackles, was not particularly amused.

"I didn't see it, not at all," said Lewis, who had to have escaped Lincoln Financial Field unnoticed for 10 minutes to have missed the replays on both the stadium's Jumbotrons. "If you're going to play a football game, don't be a coward and wait until you make one play and do something. Just play football.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?id=1913565

And Ray responds by calling Owens a coward? So TO scores the game winning touchdown and Lewis waits till he's in the locker room and calls him a coward...

:potkettle:

Last I checked, TO does his talking before the game - you know when he still has to face his opponent on the field, not from the saftey of the locker room after getting beat. Low class, Ray-Ray. Hey Ray-Ray, next time try keeping him out of the endzone. And I like that comment - "make one play"!? Guess Lewis missed the other 7 catches for 90 yards. Maybe when he gets to watch the game film he'll realize TO was a much bigger factor in the game then he was. :P

Im not a ravens fan. I understand I sound old. Im just ticked. The way this is going is like saying goodbye to an old friend. I am feeling the pain of seeing something I love so much slip on by. Its not even the EZ celebrations that really bother me. I think its the selfishness. The look at me me me me me syndrome.Football is a team sport. I will admit I liked the Rams gathering around the ball like a campfire after a TD. I even thought the leapfrog thing was funny. The diff was it was a team celebration. Not some one saying ME me me me meme me. TO should play tennis or some other individual sport if thats what he wants. What about the OL? any credit for them. Not as far as TO is concerned.I will say I dont think R Lewis should even be playing as he is prob a accessory to murder. Not only is he playing he was a SB MVP.NiceThere was a book out years ago called pros and cons. Interesting read.
uh, it was the NFL who said you cannot involve your teammates

:goodposting: Whether you're a fan of TD celebrations or not generally, I would think anyone would have to appreciate TO's dance for many of the reasons already discussed. Being at the game, I agree with MT that what made it work was how PICTURE PERFECT he mimicked Lewis' dance. There wasn't a second when you didn't realize what he was doing, and you KNOW he had to have practiced that for some time.

As to Ray Lewis' comments, I didn't see the "coward" remark but on ESPN late night I saw Ray giving TO some props saying that "the guy made some big plays" and so forth.

In any event, I went berserk at the stadium after he made that dance. Remember that the game was a defensive struggle to that point, and TO made a fantastic run after the catch to score and put the Eagles up 15-3; that was THE play of the game, and never a more opportune time to celebrate.

That dance was just flawless. As an Eagles hater, that was just awesome. Big props to TO this week, even if I'm not a fan.

Agree with every word. I don't like TO, but I despise Lewis and the constant, fawning love that's now shown to him despite the fact that he protected two murderers in his own limo. Screw 'em.

I'm very surprised Lewis didn't lay Owens out at some point in the game.

The whole "respect" thing they have going in the NFL and then Owens does that to Lewis?

It surprised me just as Owens doing his "showing up" episode on the Dallas star a few years ago. And as when Owens was nailed when he did it the second time, it made me think "Here we go again!"

I just think it was stupid of Owens because there was so much time left in the game for him to get pasted.

Football is as much about emotion and willing oneself to be better than your opponent as it is Xs and Os. Owens wasn't being stupid, he was showing absolutely no fear; something that most players can't or won't do in the face of Ray Lewis and that Baltimore defense. If you think intimidation isn't a HUGE component of what makes the Ravens (and their field general) successful, you haven't been watching the same game I have these many years.

Emotion, Jason? That's BS because there is no way Owens "spontaneously" did that dance. As was stated in an earlier post in this thread, he had to have practiced it to get it down like that. There was no emotion involved. And I would have thought the same thing if it was Owens imitating Deion Sanders dance and no one is afraid of Sanders. It's that you're setting yourself up to get blasted because someone on the other team could say "F this! He's not doing that to me/my teammate!"

And I think I've been watching the games these same many years, thank you very much. (Can't let the condescending comment go by without calling you out on it.)

Three pages of people #####ing about, or defending, Owens doing some grandstanding that didn't affect the game at all.But not a single peep about Jabar Gaffney trying to grandstand... screwing it up and fumbling on the 1, resulting in a 10 point swing as he costs his team a TD and gives the Jags the ball which they go pick up a FG with.If you want to talk about how grandstanding is hurting the game, why not talk about the incident that actually impacted a game, instead of talking about some buffoon who danced after the whistle had actually blown?

Hey Spike,First, sorry for the condescending remark...you caught me on that one. :)

Second, I think emotion plays a HUGE part in what TO does on and off the field. As I have learned watching TO this year, he needs reasons to get himself fired up to dominate. He creates feuds each and every week, to get himself fired up. And frankly, as a long time Eagles fan I can say definitively that the other Birds are feeding off his enthusiasm and fire too. He's really been an ideal fit for the Birds because he plays the role of the "villian" who takes virtually all the pressure/media scrutiny away from the other members of the squad who haven't appeared to thrive off that. Last year McNabb was being discussed/analyzed/debated/evaluated in every football related venue, and the media only cared about asking he and Reid and anyone else who wanted to discuss things, "what's wrong with Donovan?"

This year, McNabb has been free to play his game and let TO be the centerpiece of the media storm. It's been FANTASTIC.

My only real beef with players celebrating is doing it when their team is behind. Celebrating an individual act while their team is losing comes across as a childish loss of perspective. That's not a league matter, though; it's one for individual coaches to address (or not). It remains a team game.

Not a big T.O. fan at all, but that move was priceless and it was just a TD celebration dance. Now, if he would have pulled out his sharpie and autographed Ray Lewis' back after beating him for a TD, now that would have been over the line.Ray has a short memory. It was just last year that he was in Pittsburgh doing his best imitation of Joey Porter's boot dance after a sack or int or something. I don't recall him saying that was a cowardly move. to Ray not just making light of it and laughing about it. That would have made this thing die down pretty quickly.

yep, Ray is a monster on the field but he's also a effing baby.

The Pom - Poms last year were the best because I believe they were unrehearsed!

Ok, obviously I'm a big R Lewis fan. But I really don't dislike TO at all. I think hes a good guy. However, I think we need to make a distinction:Getting fired up because you make a good play and jumping up and down, yelling, and celebrating. This is a natural reaction that you ahve because you're excited. Ray Lewis does this all the time.Doing a pre-planned dance or routine. This is not a 'heat of the moment' celebration. This is delibrately used to promote yourself over your team. Its used to make you stand out. This is what TO does. Now, as I said, I don't dislike TO. However, I do think its wrong to include R Lewis among the group of showboaters like TO, Joe Horn, etc.

Which one is more ridiculous?
see my last post....Celebrating because you're honestly excited that you just helped your team VS pre planning a way to make yourself stand out above your teamates.

But IMHO in the NFL they are FAR FAR outweighed by the likes of Peyton Manning, Priest Holmes, Ray Lewis, Marvin Harrison and many other players who put the game and winning first and their merchandising deals second.
It wasn't like TO caught a 10 yard pass for a first down in a blowout and then did the dance. It was the 4th qtr in a tight home game after much smack had been thrown both ways between TO and the Ravens (dating to the preseason) and he makes a great individual effort and seals the game to stay undefeated. I would say it was an emotional play and while the dance was rehearsed the timing was appropriate due to the circumstances. Ray talks smack with the best of them. Does anyone remember that super classy move last year mocking Porter in the Steelers game after Porter was shot in the preseason. Please don't cry for Ray. He was embaressed and he should be, TO got the best of him and his Ravens. After all the drama and talk resulting from the trade, he torched them in the preseason on the first play of the game and he beat them again when it really counted. I think what Ray is really mad about is that he probably knows that TO could have been the difference on his team.

all the TO haters are lameass.
I don't mind TO, as I've said, but why do you refer to Ray Lewis as an ### clown?Because he talks a lot of trash ON THE FIELD? He is very respectful off the field. On the field, he is only trying to help his team win. He intimidates other players by talking trash...he doesn't do it to be a jerk. He does it because it helps his team win.TO does stuff just for publicity. Talking #### about Garcia and all of the end zone celebrations are done just to promote himself.

Ray should just shut his trap and take his medicine. All Ray-Ray and his top ranked DST said coming into the season was "What did TO do last time we played, why should I care about to .... 4 for 23" or something along those lines. If you give it, expect to take it at some point.JAA

sorry, but :blindhomer: :bs: :penalty: You dont think Ray-Ray uses his on the field spotlight to improve him image? Mad Ray Kool-Aid here.JAA

The Eagles scored one touchdown.Yes, the Eagles won the game, but that was because of the Ravens lack of offense.

The Eagles started their first few drives already acrossed the Ravens 50!!

THE RAVENS DEFENSE GOT THE BETTER OF THE EAGLES OFFENSE YESTERDAY!

Now, yes I realize that the end score is all that matters. I realize this. However, lets not act as if TO and the Eagles offense outplayed Ray and the Ravens defense because that is clearly not the case. Despite amazing field position, they only scored 15 points, well under their season average.
