Tony Gonzalez is the greatest TE in NFL history (1 Viewer)

He has said this is his final year, correct? If so, that's crazy. He looks almost like he's in his prime.

I hope he reconsiders and takes it on a year-by-year basis.
I hope he plays until he's 40 and breaks Jerry Rice's all-time receptions record.

Gonzo could not have played TE in 1964 IMO.
You mean because he was so much bigger, faster and stronger than the other offensive linemen that the NFL would have outlawed him for safety reasons? Or something else?
I mean he would have been a WR if he came out back in the 60's. His recieving skills and speed would likely have made him a HoF WR too. I don't think back in those days any HC would try to install him as a TE. They wanted their TE's to be bruising blockers in the running game. With his speed and size, he would have been unstoppable as a WR. Why have him play as a TE getting 2 or 3 targets a game, when as a WR he could break a defense down all by himself with a decent QB.Different era.
