I saw a tiny bit of him in preseason, and he looked solid. In the couple series I saw, he reminded me of Jeff Garcia with his mobility and size. Anybody have extensive knowledge or opinions on his long term potential?
I've seen him during practice and he's a pretty accurate passer but I just get the feeling that he's another Volek and not meant to be a starter. If Bledsoe can limit the weeks and get the team into the playoffs then I think he'll be the starter next year (will be 35). I do think the Cowboys will find another long-term solution besides Romo, though it's possible he could get a shot next year.
Until he gets regular season snaps it is anyone's guess. He looked decent during pre-season but did have three or four turnovers. Parcells seems to think he can do the job if given tha chance, but his definition of do the job may or may not mean anything to us as fantasy players.
The nice thing that Romo has working for him is that he's had the opportunity to learn for a few years without any particular focus on him. This is the best way for an unheralded QB prospect out of college to learn the fundamentals of the game. He seems to have put it to good use.
I snagged him this preseason on my dynasty roster and am going to sit on him for a year to see if/how he progresses and what the team does with Bledsoe and him. If, as has been rumored, this ends up being Parcells' final year, I could see this team rebuilding to a degree and trying to develop young talent like him by playing him . . . although I have no idea how that would work with TO on the roster.
No one here can really know. But the best indicator that he has ability is Parcells' interest in him. Parcells seems to think the guy can play and that he's ready to play. Dallas has given him several contract extensions, the latest taking him out through 2008, I believe. Dallas also has not brought in anyone else of consequence to compete with him and has actually let competitors go including Henson, Hutchinson, and Quincy Carter.
If you have confidense in Parcells' ability to judge QB talent, then the answer is Romo has what it takes. Dallas has invested in him to the exclusion of other potential QBs.
