Tony Scheffler the #2 TE in DEN (1 Viewer)

CBS is stating Scheffler is "unsure of his role" in the Denver offense.

What is the concensus here? Is he going to be a target for Cutler or

throwing blocks?

Daniel Graham was named as one of the captains for the Denver offense yesterday, and he is the #1TE for Denver - but that's mostly because he's a very good blocker.

I expect to see Scheffler and Nate Jackson in as the "pass catching" TE's, and it wouldn't surprise me to see both split wide in certain formations.

tony scheffler might as well be nicknamed "bullfighter" because when he *blocks* it looks like he's saying, "Ole!"

Thanks Cecil, for the commentary. I like the bullfighter comment.

Thanks Cecil. Is it fair to assume with B Marshall out this week that Scheffler sees maybe 8-10 targets? Another quick one, is he used/targeted at all in Red-Zone formations or is Graham typically in for those?

10 targets may be a little much. I have seen this team practice with Brandon Marshall, not without him - so who knows how the targets are going to be spread around. Graham is the goalline TE, especially due to play action. If I was a defender and saw Scheffler lined up tight I would think "sack" or "pass" :goodposting:tony could line up wide in the red zone and see some targets that way. With the Raiders cornerbacks I think we'll see a couple of deep shots to Eddie Royal, but for the most part they'll work the underneath/crossing routes and get some screen/swing passes in with Selvin. Scheffler does create a mismatch for LBs so they may look to the deep middle to make some plays.

unbelievable..
And of course you can always count on the self proclaimed "content managers", especially valhallan, to come out of the wood work and add absolutely nothing to a thread but to :goodposting:

I think this is about as good as we can speculate. Cecil has offered some very good insight to this topic. It's been a real hot topic all preseason. I am interested as a Scheffler owner, but I think the only thing we can do at this point is wait and see.Scheffler wasn't expected to be #1 on the depth chart. Last year he was #2, and he's not going to beat out Graham. Graham is a good blocker, while Scheffler is the pass catching TE. I think we'll have to wait and see how Shanny manages his TEs this season. Just be glad he was bumped up to #2 on the depth chart, not #3 as he was earlier

Cecil, thanks for the insight.Scheffler's promotion on the depth chart was promising, bit it's tough to figure out with Shanny. Does he think of it by position on the depth chart, or does he have specific personnel for each formation he wants to use? It seems like Scheffler may have a chance to be in on a few more plays this week than what might usually take place.

It's easy to look for reasons to start Scheffler this week, this is an opportunity where we know Marshall is out. For those that waited on TE's and have 2 "ok" options, Sheffler may be a viable start this week.
