Top 10 IDP Dynasty Players (DL, LB, DB) (1 Viewer)

ADP

Footballguy
One of the things I love about the FBG weekly products during the season is the ability to project players based on scoring system. I know it might be asking too much to get something like that incorporated into the offseason rankings so I won't ask. (yet) The problem is many of us play in big play oriented leagues that current dynasty rankings do not consider. i.e Shawne Merriman could be ranked Top 15 in big play versus 35-40 in FBG.

I would however like to get the FBG staffers (as well as any others) opinions right now on who their TOP 10 Dynasty players at each position are based on scoring system listed below. Since many people play in big play leagues, I figured alot of people would fine these rankings helpful.

Please feel free to explain why you have players ranked where you do. Thanks!

DL Scoring: T=2pt, AT=1pt, Sack=12pt, INT=6pt, PD=2pt, FF=2pt, FR=6pt, TD=6pt

LB Scoring: T=2pt, AT=1pt, Sack=10pt, INT=6pt, PD=3pt, FF=2pt, FR=6pt, TD=6pt

DB Scoring: T=2pt, AT=1pt, Sack=8pt, INT=6pt, PD=4pt, FF=2pt, FR=6pt, TD=6pt

I'll start with mine.....

DL

1. Mario Williams

2. Jared Allen

3. Juluis Peppers (obviously this is dependent on him staying at DE in Carolina, right now I think he stays)

4. Osi Umenyiora (Will bounce back and regain his rightful spot in the top 5)

5. Trent Cole

6. Justin Tuck (Osi coming back will effect him some, but still top 10)

7. Gaines Adams (I think he is ready to take that leap this year.)

8. Chris Long

9. John Abraham (older guy, but when he can stay healthy he is monster)

10. Aaron Schobel (another older guy, but has been great over the years. Injured 08 should not be hel against him.)

Outside looking in: Robert Mathis, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Adewale Ogunleye

Sleeper to make Top 10: Clif Avril (Last half of season he played out his mind. If he picks up where he left off he could finish top 10 next year)

* I left Suggs and Kampman off my list as I see them as LBs going forward but If you see them as DL, feel free to clasify them that way.

LB

1. Patrick Willis

2. Jon Beason (Everywhere on field, rakcs up so many tackles)

3. Demarcus Ware (does it all, but does sacks especially well)

4. Demeco Ryans (tackle machine)

5. Barrett Ruud (very under appreciated I think in fantasy circles but the guy does the job)

6. Jarod Mayo (Should only get better, maybe add some big plays)

7. Karlos Dansby (Does a little bit of everything, tackles, sacks, ints)

8. James Harrison (age knocks him dow a few spots, but still top 10 as he can really get after the QB)

9. Shawne Merriman (injury is concern, but if can return healthy, will move up list)

10. Jonathan Vilma

Outside looking in: D'Qwell Jackson, Kirk Morrison, L. Woodley

Sleeper to make Top 10: Curtis Lofton

DB

1. Eric Weddle (Just a tackling machine.)

2. Oshiomogho Atogwe (almost put him #1. He has just the right mix of tackling and big plays.)

3. Gibril Wilson (I know, I know. He plays in Miami now, but I couldn't drop him too far. The guy knows how to produce)

4. Brandon Merriweather (should only get better, does a little bit of everything)

5. Chris Gamble (I know many will not like this pick, but I still prefer Gamble to Marshall right now. He racks up PDs and knows how to tackle)

6. Antoine Winfield (Old, but guy is model of consistency at most unconsitent position in fantasy)

7. Cortland Finnegan (Very consitent tackler with big play capability)

8. Charles Tillman (see Winfield)

9. Troy Polamalu

10. Antrel Rolle (The new Adrian Wilson?)

Outside looking in: Erik Coleman, Darrelle Revis, Richard Marshall

Sleeper to make Top 10: Bob Sanders (If only this guy could stay healthy)

The 6:1 sack-to-tackle ratio for defensive lineman skews the rankings some, but not in the same way that it would the linebacker rankings. The two way DE threats (Allen, Williams, Cole etc) that consistently threaten 45 or more solos with double digit sacks still belong at the top of the list. The increased value of the sack bumps the value of the rush DEs (Abraham becomes a DL1, Adams, Freeney, Mathis become legit DL2+ options, Avril, CJohnson, etc become big sleeper candidates). Guys I'd probably have in my top ten in this system but not in my FBG default top ten would include only Abraham and maybe Mathis.

The linebacker difference is more significant. Harrison looks like a top 15 player in any scoring system, but Ware, Woodley and Merriman would all threaten the top ten in a big play heavy scoring system. Ware definitely in the top ten, Woodley and Merriman just outside the LB1 range probably.

I don't think your DB system is that far out of line with a tackle-heavy system, except for the added PD value. I'd bump corners with ball skills that tackle some, but wouldn't fret over projecting sacks or INTs. I've not run any DB projections yet, but my first thought is that the 2009 rankings are going to be the equivalent of throwing handfuls of DB2s against the wall and guessing who grabs an extra pick or two with 5-8 extra solos and ranking them ahead of the rest. I don't see a clear Wilson, Bell, Wilson, etc ranking this year. I'd anticipate guys like Richard Marshall, Charles Woodson and possibly both Cincinnati corners (who seem to knock down passes in bunches) to have better than expected value with the PD bumps.

I see very little to argue with on your lists, especially at DL and DB. I'm not as high on Chris Long or Erik Coleman. I'd have a very hard time keeping Harrison out of the top five (but my dynasty lists don't project out very far), I think Mayo is probably a bit too high and I'd have Ruud above Ryans right now based on system expectations. Other than that, I don't think my lists would look much different here.

I think Yeremiah Bell retains his top 10 DB status after re-signing with the Fins.

Although looking at your scoring system he may need more big plays.

Seeing where Curry & Maualuga end up could shake a few things up in that top 10 LBs, especially if the latter slips to the Lions at pick 20.

I expect Kirk Morrison solo tackles to go back up in line with what he was doing before the Gibril Wilson experiment.

On the flip side better play from ILBs in SD will limit Eric Weddle' solo opportunity significantly.

Overall very good lists.
