Top 10 KR/PR IDP's looking at 2013 (1 Viewer)

"Josh is someone who has started a lot of games for a young player, plus he has been a good special-teams player, both as a kick returner and in coverages," Ravens executive vice president/general manager Ozzie Newsome said in a statement released by the team. "He adds depth to our secondary and will help us. ... We expect Josh to be taking snaps against the Jets on opening night."

I interpret that as he's a backup on opening night, nickel corner maybe?

Definitely a nickel back, however if Webb and or Washington aren't healthy I could see him starting.

Rookie CBs Perrish Cox and more recently Syd'Qan Thompson have been real impressive in the return game for Denver. Not sure how it shakes out, but Cox has a better chance seeing time on defence. Eddie Royal may still be in the mix, but McD may be reluctant to start him on return duties given his role on offence.

With Wilson on the Ravens, I don't see how they would have a starting CB returning kicks this season.
Granted this came a day before yesterday's trade, it does look like Parmele has won that job.Kickoff return job belongs to Parmele

By Dan Kolko, August 29, 2010 12:34 PM | 0 Comments

Jalen Parmele has thrived in his role as a kickoff returner since taking over for the injured Lardarius Webb late last season.

He averaged 31.4 yards per return in two games last season, and nearly took two kicks to the house, getting tackled after 53 and 45-yard returns.

This preseason, he's picked up right where he left off last year, averaging 31.3 yards on four returns, including a 37-yarder last night in the Ravens' 24-10 win over the Giants.

For comparison's sake, the two other Ravens to get kick returns this preseason, David Reed and Prince Miller, have averaged 20.0 and 22.0 yards per return, respectively.

Good things seem to happen when Parmele has the ball in his hands on kick returns, which is why head coach John Harbaugh all but awarded the job to the three-year veteran after the game last night.

"I like the way our returners [looked] in the kick return game, Jalen especially," Harbaugh said. "He's the guy. He's a north-south, hard-running guy, and it's hard to get in front of him."

It's nice to see a kick returner who doesn't dance around from sideline to sideline looking for a hole. As Harbaugh said, that's not Parmele's style. He's going to go straight ahead, hit the hole hard, and get as many yards as he can.

That strategy has yielded positive results for Parmele thus far, and it looks like barring injury or a horrible case of fumblitis in the preseason finale, he'll be the one returning the kickoffs when the Ravens open the season against the Jets on Sept. 13.

Philip Buchanon has the nickel back job secured along with PR duties.

via Rotoworld:

Phillip Buchanon is expected to be the Redskins' primary punt returner this season, according Gary Fitzgerald of Redskins.com.

Undrafted rookie Brandon Banks is easily the team's most explosive return candidate, but he doesn't have a role on offense. If the 'Skins opt to keep Roydell Williams or Bobby Wade as a fifth receiver, Buchanon will handle punts while Banks gets the roster squeeze.

The fact that it came before the trade is kind of a big deal. Beating out Prince Miller and David Whatshisface is a LOT different than Wilson.Nonetheless, the uncertainty sucks. Parmalee did a good job, so even if Wilson gets some returns, no guarantee he gets them all. Or even if he is starting at CB. They traded for him, so you know they like him and want to use him someway, but players have been traded for before and flopped. If he is just a KR and a nickel back, not really startable.Heck, how many fewer KR will he see in BAL than SEA?

I agree that Wilson gets some KR's but probably still isn't startable. Sad thing is I won Wilson and Webb in an auction a few weeks ago just loving it that I had 2 starting CB's with both having KR opportunities. Now I have one starter with no KR opportunities and his back-up who just might get a couple. So that's how I roll apparently...handcuffing CB's.

How much playing time will Javier Arenas get on Defense? Has he secured BOTH KR/PR duties in KC? Any and all info would be appreciated!

Any Broncos faithful have insight on Perrish Cox? Has he won both KR/PR duties and is he the lead for nickel corner? The official website is still listing Royal as the KR and PR.

Not sure about KR/PR duties, but it appears Nate Jones has the immediate hold on the nickel spot. Cox has been playing on the outside behind Bailey and is likely being groomed for a spot on the outside while Jones, by most reports, was brought in specifically to man the nickel spot. It's pure speculation as to who gets return duties between Cox/Syd'Quan Thompson/Eddie Royal. My guess is if the Broncos are comfortable with a rook handling the duties, Cox will get the nod at some point as I don't see them wanting to have Royal returning kicks while playing a key spot on offense. I know that doesn't clear much up for right now, but I think Cox is a find for dynasty leagues that reward KR/PR stats.

The updated depth chart in Cincy has Bernard Scott as KR1 and Pacman as KR2.

Pacman is PR1 on the chart.

I wonder what happened in Bengal land that would have made Lewis change his mind about Pacman being his kick returner after dominating in the return game in the preseason. And to use your lone backup RB as a returner seems a bit dangerous.

I'm hoping that the updated depth chart contains a few errors, namely Pacman not being KR1.

What do we got on the Bears as of now, Hester is the PR. Is it Manning or Knox on KR or both?

Any subscriber content go into projections of KR weekly?

Looks like Javier Arenas is the man to own here.
I have Javier Arenas in 2 leagues which also count return yardage. Luckily for me, I was also able to scoop up Ellis Hobbs as a backup. I'm a little bit weary of Arenas because McCluster is right on the doorstep and could take over KR's any time or at least split some action. He showed during the last couple pre-season games that he's more than worthy of it having taken the bulk of the kick returns. Arenas is starting at nickelback too due to Leggett being put on IR so things do look very optimistic for him early on. Let's just hope that he can hang onto his return spots cause like I said McCluster is right there behind him if needed.

From all indications so far, they will be splitting KRs as they did last year. These are my first posts here but I've been reading this forum since last year, you guys are great :blackdot:

Here's a link that I've been following the past couple of weeks which I've found very helpful. May not be 100% accurate but the owner tries to update it frequently and does a pretty good job at it too. Most of the info seems accurate to me.

2010 NFL Kickoff Returners (KR) and Punt Returners (PR)

C.J. Spiller sits atop the team’s depth chart at kick returner in addition to running back, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be the team’s return man this Sunday.

“I see that as a position with a lot of different options,” said head coach Chan Gailey. “We’re fortunate on this team to have good returners and depth so we’ll make a decision as we get closer to game time as to who is going to do it.”

Gailey indicated that one player will be tabbed as the kick returner for that particular week.

“We’ll probably decide on a returner and use him for that game,” said Gailey. “The good thing is one gets winded or something like that we have the option to use someone else.”

Listed behind Spiller on the kick return depth chart are rookie Donald Jones, Marshawn Lynch, Leodis McKelvin and Fred Jackson in that order, for what it’s worth.

stole this from herman's thread, so I blame him for bearing the news.

About 10 days ago Andy Reid announced that DeSean Jackson and Ellis Hobbs would be returning punts and kickoffs this season. Today, he says that might not be the case. He was first asked whether Jackson and Hobbs will be used as returners in the upcoming game,

"I'm debating on that right now, but we'll see how it goes here."

What exactly are the factors that go into making the decision?

"Well, I've got [CB Jorrick] Calvin. I've got Calvin here, so I've brought him in to kind of do that, help out there, so we'll just see."

Might Calvin be used on both kickoffs and punt returns?

"Yeah, he does both."

Awesome.

I was feeling really good about both Hobbs and Pacman being KR1's since that was what had been alluded to.

Now, it seems as though neither will get the majority of the returns, if any, at all.

These damn coaches need to make up their minds.

Well Hobbs did get all of the Eagles kick returns. 93 yards on 4 returns, an avg. of 23yrds hopefully he'll be keeping his job for awhile.Pacman did 2 punt returns for 37 yards.Tonight will be Arenas time!

Spiller got the returns yesterday. Is McKelvin even worth a roster spot at this point?

Wow...Arenas looks electric. Is he starting on defense anywhere? Or does he have a shot at starting this year?
I hope so. But even if he doesn't, he might be a must start. Dude looks like he could go house every time he touches the ball.

Arenas only had one official tackle, but he saw a lot of action on defense. He made a nice jump on a ball on a late 3rd down pass, a near-pick that might've been a pick in a game without so much rain. I expect his tackle numbers to steadily rise, and the return ability is obvious.

Now McCluster is returning punts...what the?
Yes McCluster will steal punts here and there as expected, I'm just worried if he takes some KRs too because that's where most of Arenas' points will come from. McCluster doesn't have a set position but he's so versatile that they'll continue to use him everywhere, running, receiving, returns; a guy that dynamic he just need his touches. As for Arenas I expect him to get more tackles in upcoming games as he gets more comfortable but the fact that he foiled a few passes, that's a good sign too indicating that he can handle the starting defensive role.

I've had Arenas since the draft. Our league does 10-1 on returns + bonus >100 = 1, >200 = 2 & >300 = 3. TD = 6Now, after watching that game and sweating seeing McCluster doing returns, I decided to snatch him up as a FA. He has talent. I'm trying to decide to swap him for Cadillac as RB2. He's listed as a WR/RB on Yahoo. What's ironic is that Yahoo projects him higher than Cadillac for week 2. But that's Yahoo - 'nuff said. It's risky because if he doesn't get more touches, his performance may be lackluster at best if he's weak on returns. But he's pure talent. I watched him and he's good. I expect KC to realize that also and play him more on offense. He's niched himself for returns and I suspect Arenas owners know that. With Cadillac, I can expect a good game. However, rumor mill is that he'll see less action because the coaches don't want to overload him. That means more touches for Huggins and less value for Caddy.

Hobbs is definitely the KR guy in philly, if he could have done more at cb he would have had a nice total last week. I was hoping pacman was gonna get kicks and punts but it looks like Scott is still the guy on KR. Any Bengals homers think its possible Jones works his way into more field time at corner?

Can't tell on Hobbs.

What's the deal with Daniel Manning? I didn't see him do any KR on Sunday and looks like it's Knox on KR duty. Depth chart has him at S and backup KR, no PR duties.

At this point, he's not even making enough Solo Tackles to have Top 10 value without the KR yardage. Time to cut bait?

It looks to me like he's splitting KOs with Knox. If the defense has been on the field for a long drive they use Knox for the ensuing KO; Knox does seem a notch higher than Manning in the rotation. The suprising thing is that the Bears haven't been giving up a lot of scores they haven't been returning as many kicks--I expected them to return a ton last Monday night but obviously it didn't work out that way. The Bears have some easier games coming up after NYG in week 4 but then a tough schedule after their bye week. My guess is that Manning will be of more value after week 9.
