Beginning Sunday, NFL Network will count down its annual list of the Top 100 Players of 2022. If you ask me, the #1 player is going to be Aaron Rodgers, since he was MVP of the league last year. #100-51 will air this Sunday, #50-21 will air next Sunday 8/21, & the list will conclude on Sunday, August 28.

It is hard to know exactly what "top players" means. Most valuable to their teams (like a WAR type thing)? Most impressive to watch? Most complete skill set (but then, how to compare one position versus another?)? Most popular?

Basically, this is a list that is made up by the players and their peers. What happens is that at the end of the season, all the players are asked to give their list of the Top 20 players in the game are. As you could expect, every player is going to have their own list & their own opinion.

Geoff Schwartz put it best, he said he'd put Mitchell Schwartz 1st, then all his teammates, then just random guys he liked. It's like the Pro Bowl only without the trip.

No way the second-best receiver in the game is seventeenth, unless the top ten is done properly, meaning that ten QBs are in the top ten. Outside receivers and quarterbacks and defensive ends (pass rushers) are the most valuable positions in football. No way two running backs are in there ahead of Josh Allen. That's crazy. And I'm not a guy who reflexively pooh-poohs running backs, either. It's just that they're nowhere near the value of an Allen or even a Herbert, who is just clearly ranked too low.
