Top 3 Rookie Pick or Vet (1 Viewer)

Your dynasty team is competitive and should be challenging for playoff run. Take the risk of a top rookie pick or move that pick for a top quality vet that may put you over the top????

In general I will take the vet over the rookie pick, provided the vet isn't in his 30s and close to the downside of his career and that his basic value is similar to the pick.

Way too many variables to answer this with even a grain of practicality.
Just a general question. You are a competitive team in the playoff hunt in a dynasty. Would you give up Dez, Spiller, or Mathews for a vet who may only have 3-4 years left??? Not looking at a specific situation, but a question in general.

I have been on both sides of this transaction. It really depends on your team. But, to answer you question, I surely would trade a top pick for an established veteran if I liked the value

sounds like you're talking about players like Randy Moss, Peyton Manning, Frank Gore, etc. I'd have to see how much of a benefit I get immediately vs. the long term effect.Let's assume Mathews would be my #2 RB and I could trade him for Gore. If I think there's a 7 ppg difference this year, 5 next and may 2 after that, I probably do it. If I think Mathews does better quicker, I don't. I can straight out tell you, as the owner of 1.01, it would take a top 10 dynasty player at his position for me to deal the pick.

Depends on the rookie class and depends on the vet. This year I'd be much more willing to let go of a top pick for a good vet, assuming it's not someone like Randy Moss, who's clearly pretty close to done.

If you've got AP and CalvinJ in the class, obviously you don't ship that pick for less than an uberstud or more.

Agree with depending on the class. I shipped all of my 1st and most of my 2nd round picks this year because I was not high on the draft class at all. While a very deep class by NFL standards it didn't have the makings of a very good fantasy class IMO. 2 of my teams are poised to win now and the rookie picks had the typical higher value after the draft. It may hurt my team a little in the long run but definitely made it better for the next 1-2 years that my window is open.
