I am a new member of Football Guys and have been reading the 2011 articles. David Dodd's article on perfect draft ppr 12 teams was very interesting however I question the premise of selecting from the top 50 list without accounting for tiers. In the mock draft held by the staff many of the editors mentioned using tiers in their strategy. If you are selecting from the 11th position and have 4 running backs available in tier 2 and only one receiver in tier two, wouldnt it be smarter to draft the receiver even though the running back was rated higher in the rankings? One of the backs will still be available. The 50th ranked player could be in the same tier with 51 and 52 as well. Also, David mentions in another article pertaining to the draft list, that he averages the ranking and the adp to arrive at a new ranking, providing the original ranking is higher than adp. I see the logic here, but wouldnt it make more sense to select the higher ranked player if neither player would be available with his next pick, according to adp? For example, if you are drafting 10th in the second round and your 12th ranked player has an adp of 27, and your 13th ranked player has an adp of 14, neither player will probably be available for your next pick in the third round. Why take your second best player in that case?
