In four of the past five years, only 3 of the previous year's Top 10 RBs have found their way back into the Top 10 the following year. In the other year, only 6 of the top 10 accomplished that. Therefore, statistically speaking....only 3 or 4 of 2011's Top 10 RBs will find themselves in the top this year. Which 3 or 4 do you think will remain and who do you think will crack the top 5 in 2012 that wasn't in the Top 10 last year?

Top 10 last year

10 - Sjax

9 - Micheal Bush

8 - Matthews

7- Peterson

6 - Turner

5 - Marshawn Lynch

4 - Arian Foster

3 - shady

2- mjd

1 - Ray Rice

This year.

Remain: Matthews, rice, shady, Foster

New: Murrary, Stewart, Richardson.

Welcome back. Cj2k, McFadden

The bolded part is a little confusing -- I assume you meant who do you think will crack the "top 10" in 2012 that weren't in the top 10 last year?10 - Sjax

9 - Micheal Bush

8 - Matthews

7- Peterson

6 - Turner

5 - Marshawn Lynch

4 - Arian Foster

3 - McCoy

2- MJD

1 - Ray Rice

My list for this year (assuming PPR):

Remain: Rice, McCoy, Foster, Matthews, MJD (in other words, these guys are pretty much locks, IMO)

New: nobody (essentially, I don't see Murray, Richardson, or anyone else "new" cracking the top 10 this season)

Welcome back: McFadden, Forte, Charles, CJ2, Peterson (injuries and poor performance during 2011 aside, I expect a big rebound from these guys this season)

michael bush was top 10? not in my leagues he wasnt (primarily ppr)

anyway Ill play:

1- McCoy

2- Foster

3- Mathews

4- Forte

5- R.Rice

6- Sproles (ppr)

7- C.Johnson

8- J.Charles

9- McFadden

10-DeMarco

My current Top 10 in the Staff Rankings is below. I have also inserted an empty line based on where they fall in my overall rankings (i.e. - I'm denoting the tiers).

1. Foster

2. McCoy

3. Rice

(slight drop, but all of the Top 6 are top 9 overall)

4. Mathews

5. C. Johnson

6. Jones-Drew

(bigger drop)

7. McFadden

8. Forte

9. Richardson

(slight drop)

10.Murray

It looks like I have FIVE staying (Foster, Rice, McCoy, Jones-Drew, Mathews) with S. Jackson, M. Bush, Peterson, Turner, and Lynch leaving.

Newcomers: Richardson, Murray

Welcome Back's: C. Johnson, McFadden, Forte

Everyone's thoughts?

 definitely not Murray..nothing screams flash in the pan like his couple of good games in 2010..Jones is still hanging around..every year we try to put a Dallas RB in the top ten and every year we're disappointed.

Stewart, maybe, it's tough to get excited about a p/t RB.

bye bye Lynch. he won't make the top 20 now with a DUI case/suspension looming

how many games will Peterson really play that will allow him to enter the top 10 again?

I'm not buying ADP for 2012..

non PPR:

Foster

Rice

McCoy

CJ2k

Mathews

Richardson

MJD

Fjax

J. Charles

McFadden

I'll take Fjax over your Stewart or Murray pick any day..how quickly we forget he was a top 5 back when he got hurt last season, and broke a bone,it's not an ACL,MCL type of injury ..there's no reason to think Fjax can't be a top 10 RB again this season.

New this year/returns:

Forte, McFadden, Richardson, Beanie Wells (call me crazy), Chris Johnson

Remaining:

Rice, Foster, McCoy, Matthews, Jones-Drew (assuming he starts from game 1)

Beanie and Jones-Drew are riskiest picks, because of injury/contract situation.

Gotta love those staff rankings. Way to go out on a limb and buck the ADP trends.

I'm going to go with the DUI being a substance violation and hope that Lynch doesn't have a 1st strike, so I'm going with 16 games for him. I don't like to predict injury, but I can't put DMC in the top 10. I also have the impression that Lisfranc is a pretty serious injury to come back from, too, isn't it? Anyway, I'll buck some trends and take some shots with a few of these since we know the consensus is never right.

I like the Hutchinson signing for CJ's case.

I like Hillis reuniting with Daboll in a run first scheme where he's likely to get a lot of goal line looks.

I think the Rams offense improves to maybe 23rd-25th which is enough to give SJax 7-10 TDs to go with all his yards.

If Ridley gets the 1st and 2nd down looks for over 200 carries and 12+ TDs, he could sneak in although it only got BJGE a top finish of RB15 a couple years ago.

If Brown gets bellcow carries and 3-down back receptions, he'll have a chance to sneak in.

I still like Turner to have another year of 250+ carries and 10+ TDs, so he's a strong candidate despite offseason yammerings about getting Rodgers more involved.

Nobody likes Starks but I thought about putting him in there, too. At least a couple guys getting no love are going to make their ways in there. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a guy like Starks.

I like that someone put Stewart in. I think he's a strong play, too.

FJax is strong, as well, but I just don't know how that split is going to work. It won't be 17/2 like last year.

Replaced Stewart with Bradshaw as I just acquired him.

My top ten not in any order

Foster - Beast

Mccoy - tiny beast

Rice - short beast

Matthews - if he stays healthy he could be at the top as much as Rivers likes to dump the ball off

CJ2K - too many weapons on that team to just focus on him

Forte - new contract and happy I think he gets a couple longer td's this year and brings his total to 8 or 10 total tds

Murray - I think he does stay healthy

Richardson - remember what Hillis did behind that line and Richardson is better than Hillis

Hillis - I don't think Charles is back fully this year and his touchdown numbers make him barely crack the top 10

Mcgahee - off the board here but I think Manning will be fine and Fox likes his veteran backs and rides Mcgahee into the ground this year, but next year Mcgahee will be one of the biggest busts of the year.

The rest

DMC - His ppg average will be top 10 but he will miss too many games

ADP - I think he is active the first 6 games but he splits with Gerhart too much the first 3 or 4 games to crack top 10. He will be a top 5 back from week 6 on.

Ridley - I think he has law firm numbers, just shy of 1k rushing and 10 + tds.

Jackson/Spiller - If one of them gets hurt the other is almost a lock for top 10, but both healthy I think one is around 16 - 20 and the other is 20 - 25

Stewart/Williams - same deal as Jackson and Spiller

Lynch - He is fighting the DUI now,if he wins and gets 2 games or less on his suspension I think he is easily in the top 10, anything after that and he is a total wildcard.

Bradshaw - too injury prone, in redrafts he is being taken in the 4th round and I think he is going to be a major bust this year

Helu/Redskin backs - Are you kidding me? You do know who their coach is right?

Turner - this is his last year of being anything more than a bye week play, he finishes around 18th.

Blount/Martin - Full timeshare this year, if one gets hurt then we have something to talk about

Gore - way too many running backs in that backfield, would take 2 injuries to even think about the top 10

Wells - Last year was his best chance to be top 10 and he couldn't do it

Jackson - Outside chance more like top 15

Greene - same as Jackson

Bush/Thomas/Miller - Going to get hurt but I think he plays enough games to stop one of the other two from making a top 10 bid

Redman - He has had fumbling issues before and I think they hurt him this year and the Steelers go to more of a RBBC

MJD - We doubted him last year and all he did was produce, do we just keep doubting him so that sooner or later we are right?

Brown/Carter - I like the value on Brown but I think his ceiling is around 15

Tate - One injury away from being top 10
