Torry Holt: week 5 (1 Viewer)

Well? Can he be a stud? This years production has been shaky (74 yds is his max so far, only 2 tds in weeks 1 and 2)

I am seeing him on the must start list of some sites, and I just dont see it anymore. With Frerotte starting what does this do to his stats this week?

One thing to consider when you are getting down to the short and curlies on deciding to play him this week or not: he has a stupendous history vs Arizona.

Last 8 games vs ARI: 95+ yds vs ARI in 8 of last 9 games, scored in last 4 straight vs ARI, 15ppg (non ppr) avg over the 10 games he has played against them.

Even with Frerotte, I might start him this week, but only because of his history - not due to his "stud" status.

Thoughts?

no.. go back & look at what Holt has done in his last 10-12 games & he's far from a stud.. especially with the way the Rams look this year..

Just a few years ago, Holt produced when Bulger went out, even with rookie Ryan Fitzpatrick.

That said, it certainly appears different this year with the problems across the board with this team. Holt will still probably get his, but I don't think he's an automatic stud until the offense gets back on track.

Holt's disappointing performance puts him on pace for: 92, 1018 yds, 8 TDs. I'll take that from a stud in an off-year.

Is there a magical cutoff between his last 10-12 and last 13-15 games? His last 16 amounts to: 90, 1118 yds, 9 TDs.

For a variety of reasons, this spells a down year for Holt.. but the production has been solid, if unspectacular. The next few weeks should be interesting..

It depends on who else you have to plug in at WR....With Jackson out, Holt is the primary offensive weapon on his team, and I'd expect him to post good numbers most weeks.

as bad as Gus is, he is an improvement from an injuried Bulger. Holt wil have his game soon enough. The FF crowd is very fickle. After 2 games Holt was a stud and Fitz was a bust...now two games later and everything has changed.

Just relax...see how Gus plays, you never know, the Rams could put up 35 points this weekend.

The only reason people are worried about Holt is cause he hasn't put up a 100 yard game. He is still getting targets and is on pace for 92 receptions. The yards will come. In my books, Holt is still a must start stud. Once he gets a 100 yard game, a thread like this will die pretty quickly. Shouldn't take too long if he's getting at least 5 catches every game.

He still gets alot of targets, but I wouldn't put him in the elite category right now. He's still a must start as a 1 or 2 in any league though.

Depends what your definition of stud is....I'd consider the Top 5 in their position a "stud", give or take

Top 5 WR, if we drafted today...(regardless of pure stats the first 5 weeks)

Randy, Chad, Steve Smith, TO, Marvin/Reggie

Holt was going 5-10 in most leagues I saw.. so not sure anyone was giving him "stud" status before the season started.

He's #25 in one league I just checked.. but he is providing 'some' consistency with the output he is providing... a la Kevin Curtis is in the top 10, thanks to a 40+ week, and sub 5 pts weeks elsewhere. That doesn't help anybody.

errrrrrrrrrrrr, hang on. not going to let you get away with that one.Frerotte is probably is on the positive end of bakcup QBs in the league. In '05 he helped Miami go 9-7, and was 18/13 on TD/INT ratio. So, he's not that bad off... and he's been with the team now 2 years.

we shall see over the next few weeks, but when I heard "Frerotte would start" I flashed back to the mid 90's.He did make Chambers look good too...so I do have hope, just not all that much

I'm just saying that Holt has been very mediocre the last 10-12 games or so.. He had 10 TD's last year I think with 7 coming in the 1st 5 games or so.. If you count the TD's etc since week 5 of last year he hasn't been that good.. Keep in mind that I don't play in PPR leagues which could make it worse than in those types of leagues.. I just didn't see stud play out of him at the end of last year &this year they look like a mess..

Rams are such a pathetic mess he's on my bench (ie start him probably) - 5/50 kinda games aren't cuttin it, even in PPRs. I think I'll wait until Jackson is back.

Unless Holt goes off this week then I'll chase that production

Just looked up last year for Holt.. take this how ever you want..1st 6 games last year..

37 Catches

526 yards

7 TD's..

Last 10 Games

56 Catches

662 yards

3 TD's..

So I guess for me.. the start of the year plus my magical 10-12 games does mean something..

In his last 10 games he averaged 5.6 catches, 66 yards & .3 TD's.. Add this year & the state of the Rams.. Do you still believe he's close to being considered a Stud receiver..

I've got a few reasons to be optimistic about Holt.

*Linehan is taking over the play callling and his offenses in the past with Minny and Miami seemed to feed the #1 WR.

*This sort of goes with the point above but the play calling has been horrible. I understand their goal was to protect Bulger but to quote Herm "you play to win the game". The Rams offensive scheme was not designed to win the game, it was designed to protect their QB. Take last week as example. As a Holt owner when they fell far behind in that game I was encouraged as that is usually a great time for your fantasy WR to wrack up a bunch of points. The Rams continued to try and establish the running game with Brian Leonard and constantly faced third and long.

*Bulger should come back healthy in a few weeks, SJAX as well. The line will continue to suck but this two will open up things for Holt.

*In PPR leagues I see Holts receptions going up if Bruce is out. I see Bennet stretching the D and Holt running more short and intermediate routes.

*A lot of talk that Holt's injuries may have taken some explosiveness away. Maybe. But one encouraging sign is if his knee was bothering him he'd be held out of practices the way the Bengals do TJ. I never hear about Holt so much as missing practice and I find this encouraging.

This is no longer the greatest show on turf and Holt won't be duplicating those numbers but I think he can be a top 10 WR from here on out.

Obviously he's a great player but he's not having a great season. If you can buy low on him (from these responses I doubt that's the case) then go for it but those expecting anywhere near a stud season for Torry Holt are going to be very disappointed.

Holt will miss the Mad Martz who likes to call a pass every play more than he'll miss Bulger.
Am I having a flashback and it's the summer before the 2006 NFL season? Martz has been gone from St. Louis for over a year and Holt has nearly 1200 yards and 10 TDs in an off-year in a post-Martz offense last year.

Well.... 3 INTs... but those of us that are sticking with Torry... like the fact they threw the ball 43 times. 3 TDs.Frerotte threw to 9 different receivers. Leonard was able to run, and was able to serve in an outlet capacity with 5 receptions.

I'm not picking up Frerotte (as of now)... and will hang on to Bulger... but I like Torry's prospects. A healthy Frerotte > a banged up Bulger.
