Torry Holt (1 Viewer)

Anyone know why Holt only got 2 targets the whole game yesterday when the Rams were down all game long? Did he leave the game for a quarter or so? I'm baffled on how this can happen to a team's number 1 WR, and they were trailing from the get-go.

Someone posted a quote form Linehan in the Sjax and Holt thread further down about Holt being Doubled most the game and Bulger going to the other targets who had one on one coverage. Little concerned myself but not ready to throw the towel in yet. If it does happen again thsi week than it might be time to stash him on the bench until later in the year.

Won't there be double coverage on Holt all season? Seems ridiculous they would avoid their best WR who has Hall of Fame type numbers in order to focus on a bunch of no-names.

um if he's double-covered a lot it makes a great deal of sense to throw elsewhere. How is this hard to grasp?

Like I said if it keeps happening you look elsewhere, but you can't just dump a 3rd round pick after week 1 of the season because his team didn't show up around him.

how'd that work out for them?
Precisely. I posted in another thread that this isn't all that difficult - if Holt is being doubled, you come up with ways to free him up. Or you can give up and try to beat the Eagles throwing the ball to Dante Hall. Seems like a rather easy choice to me.

Lol I agree. Seems ridiculous they would completely ignore their only weapon at wideout.Perhaps the loss of Bruce will be more crippling than percieved.

I watched the whole game, even the part after it was unofficially over, and there was entirely no sense of urgency. They seemed content at losing by 35. It might have worked better for Holt if they were only 2 scores instead of 5.

So, Torry Holt has never been doubled covered before? Please - this is one of the premier receivers in the league. The Rams were an absolute mess yesterday.

I think the Rams will be absolutely awful this year; but I do believe Holt will be better. Coming from an Eagles homer here - Bulger was facing an absolute nightmare of a defense - very fast, with possibly the best secondary in the league - with Assante Samuel / Dawkins (2 pro-bowl caliber players) DT'ing him. Add on top of that a TON of pressure, Bulger just couldn't do anything.

I think Holt will get his, but unfortunately those who own him may certainly have to temper their expectations some - that OL just looks horrendous.

Could have something to do with the fact that he's an old man and can't get open.
I think this might be closer to the truth than anything else. Once upon a time, Holt would find a way but he was never a burner. He outmaneuvered CB's for the football. He could be the Rudi Johnson of WR's this year (finally losing a step but didn't have a step to give).

I view him as a good buy low candidate. I have him in one league and I am going to check in with his owners in other leagues to see what they are thinking about Holt. The guy hasn't had less than 1188 yards since his rookie year. I understand the other WRs on the Rams are a dropoff from Bruce, but it isn't like Holt hasn't been double teamed for years now. I think you just have to tip your hat to the job Asante Samuel, Brian Dawkins, and company did covering him in week 1.

You're saying he was never a burner and succeeded for other reasons, but is now no longer succeeding because he's lost a step. But if he didn't rely on speed, why would that matter? :lmao:That said, at the 1999 draft combine, he ran a 4.44 40. I'm not sure if that's a "burner," but that's not bad speed by any means.

They only threw to him twice? I don't care how well he was covered...if he couldn't get open more than twice that's a big problem. Lousy playcalling or he's lost a step (I'll wager he hasn't lost a step). And if it was because of the horrible playcalling what do we have to look forward to?

he also seemed to be off the field for at least 1/3 of the plays. the rams just suck. i said it in another post and i'll say it here: they might be the worst team in football. they looked just awful. i didn't check the stats, but they seemed to have a lot of 3 and outs. bulger was frazzled and orlando pace got hurt. i think holt's numbers will come down this year. he might be starting the isaac bruce decline - fortunately for holt, there's nothing on the other side for bulger to throw to now that bennett is hurt (again). i tried trading holt BEFORE the season and couldn't get any takers. and that includes a guy who came into the season with no WRs and the only 1 he drafted was DeSean Jackson.

If you're a Rams fan, you can look forward to Linehan being fired. Expect a trainwreck season.

Playcalling was bad, Special Teams were bad (except the punter - who was very good!), many Rams players were crappy - particularly the OL.

This guy's goose egg was a killer this week. I'm hoping it gets better, but I agree that this is a BAD team and will struggle to put up points all season. Hell, they might as well triple-cover him, they have no other WR threats on this team.

going to be a long season for St Louis..

Jackson is still going to be a PPR stud. With that kind of protection, Bulger is going to revert to "3 step drop, backpeddle, and dump it off" mode he did two years ago.
