basically my SP's have been decimated by injury losing Mussina, jennings and Escobar. because we have almost NO bench space, i have been forced to dump escobar and jennings and hope to get them back later. I play in a 12 team 5x5

My current Sp's are:

Peavy,

Smoltz

Olsen

r. Ortiz

Gaudin

Mussina (bench)

My current Closers are:

Wheeler

Reyes

Frasor

Owens

C. Cordero

Obviously I have been lucky with FA's (Wheeler and Frasor) and did a good job of anticipating what was going to happen with Reyes and Owens.

I need to dump a closer for a starter. I have been offered Loewen for Wheeler? I think I can do better. I want to ask for Bedard for Cordero. What say the FBG Baseballbuys? Any and all input appreciated.

His starters:

Bedard, Erik SP BAL

Cain, Matt SP SF

Capuano, Chris SP MIL

James, Chuck H. SP

Loewen, Adam SP BAL

Maine, John SP NYM

Santana, Johan SP MIN

AB

How many RP can you start? Are the other Pitcher spots labeled SP or P? Also, is this H2H or roto?

Doesn't hurt to ask. If I was him, I wouldn't do it. Doesn't look like Cordero will be getting many opportunities.

The Wheeler deal doesn't look too bad. You'd be selling high. Loewen's value isn't bad...

Start 9 pitchers - any combination - traditionally start 6 sp's and 3 closers; with the categories being W, S, ERA, WHIP, and K's you tend to fall behind in K and W if you have less than 6 starters. This is not H2H, but is ROTO. This week I am starting 4 Closers with 5 starters, but three starters will make 2 starts. I am wary of blowing up my ERA and WHIP if I do this for too long, but am willing to take the chance for a week or two in the hopes of not falling too far behind in W and K.

I think Cordero may get traded before the deadline as Washington needs the youth to bebuild. Just have to hope ( if you own him) that it will be to a team that wants Cordero to be the closer, and not the setup guy.

I really like Loewen and feel that Lidge will likely find himself back in the closers role before the season ends assuming he doesn't get traded. Wheeler is doing a good job right now but he doesn't have overpowering stuff. And has gotten roughed up in the past. He's more of a ground ball pitcher than a strikeout guy. That's a tough one but if you feel you need another starter, then I'd do it. Loewen will get you some Ks.

thanks for the input. I offered Wheeler for Bedard. I am certain he will reject it, but we shall see.
Loewen starting @ TB tonight. I guess we'll get to see him pitch against another potent offense. He has faced NYY and Det in his two other starts this season.

I have three proposals on the table that have all been offered to me:

I get Chuck James and give up Wheeler

I get Sowers and give up Anthony Reyes (TB) + a draft pick next year

I get Garland and give up Wheeler

In my mind the issue is Sowers is young and so is James so bad outings can and will happen. James gets more K's but I think Sowers has a better upside. I want to try to get to the Sowers owner to take Wheeler SU. I am not sold on Garland given his lack of K's and somewhat high WHIP, but he does rack up W's.

Any and all opinions welcome.

You have 5 closers. Seems like there should be a few teams looking. None of those look like good deals to me. I'd offer any of them to whoever makes the best SP offer and then roll the dice with whatever your left with. Maybe even a 2 for 1 type deal?

I have sent inquiries to two other closer starved teams as well but have yet to hear anything. I do agree with you to some extent. The issue is if Wheeler loses his job ( for example) than I have lost the opportunity to get something for essentially nothing. I can be patient and sit on this for a few days. heck, if I sit on it thru this week, my starting pitching may get healthy again ( mussina due back in 10 days allegedly) and i won't make a trade.

I'd take Garland. Even lacking what you noted, he's a good buy low candidate. Money in 2005.

Opinions on Lowry and/or Livan Hernandez for Wheeler as well - this was just offered up moments ago. It seems like all of these offers have issues and as a result I am shuked.

I'd rather have Lowry on a buy low than Garland. Not sure how I feel about Livan, guys been pretty inconsistant the past few years, no? His arm is due to fall off too.

I think the upside on Lowry is higher than garland and you are correct about Livan
