Trading away a championship.. (1 Viewer)

I have a queasy feelin' in my stomach tonight...

Had a pretty solid draft from the 4th slot. 12 team re-draft, very competitive big money league - 13th year together. Non ppr, start 1 QB, 2RB, 3WR, K, Def

Romo

Roethlisberger

LJ

ADP

MJD

KJ

Steve Smith

Braylon Edwards

Galloway, etc.

So after week 3, when Taylor was coming back, I traded ADP and Braylon Edwards to get Addai. People thought I raped the other owner to get a top 3 back who I could then pair with LJ.

My receivers were looking a little week so I then traded Big Ben for Cotchery.

Last week I then made a blockbuster trading LJ, KJ and Bulger (picked up on the wire) for Parker, Chad Johnson and Pennington. People went nuts after this trade, saying it should be overturned and with my lineup they are all playing for 2nd place, etc.

I did think I had an absolute stacked line-up, and worked my depth as best as I could in deals. New starting lineup was:

Romo

Addai

FWP or MJD

Steve Smith

Chad Johnson

Galloway/Cotchery

For a 12 team redraft, I think anyone on draft day would take this roster. So how come I feel like I traded away a championship? Addai and Parker splitting carries, no goal line love, meanwhile LJ and ADP could be huge the rest of the way. If CJ isn't the difference maker I may regret ever making a single trade this year. Anybody else feel like they may have traded away a championship? What were the deals?

Didn't really read your whole post, but as a general rule of wisdom, "Sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make."

Sometimes your gut is wrong. I went off in some Lee Evans thread a week or two ago about how he's useless, and he just "lit it up" for 98 yards this week - not a big deal really - but on top of that Buffalo is now out 3 WR's and for the next 2 games has cake opponents and Santana Moss is an #######. So, now I get to scour the WW trying to pick my x round draft pick back up hoping everybody else in front of me focuses on Graham and Chatman.

On the same-but-worse side, some people in other leagues I know traded Fitz for Ronnie Brown or Wayne for Ronnie Brown before this week because of running back woes.

It happens. Roll with it.

Don't beat yourself up. The deals seemed good at the time, and you may yet reap the rewards. It's always a balancing act between being patient and being too patient.

I feel like I have done the same thing. I did not love my team before the deals but I dont love it now either. It is a 2 player keeper league (but the players have to be drafted in rounds 6-22 and you lose those picks). I kept Benson and Maroney.

Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 LB, 1 DL, 1 DB, 1 team D

Before Trade

QB- Kitna, Garcia

RB- Westy, T Hunt, Maroney, Morris, Benson, K Jones, Wright, A Hall

WR- R Williams, J Walker, M Colston, G Jennings, Jacobey Jones

TE- Heap, D Lee

I was concerned about Benson and Maroney not producing and J Walker was hurt and Colston wasnt doing much either. SO

Trade 1:

T Heap and C Benson(6th round keeper) for D Branch and H Miller

Trade 2:

L Maroney (6th round keeper), R Williams and J Jones for C Johnson, TO and Buckhalter (bc Westy was hurt)

So far so good I think. Then I went overboard trying to over manage

Trade 3:

K Jones (8th round keeper), Calvin Johnson, M Colston and a 2nd rounder next year (redraft) for Chad Johnson, Edge and J Lewis (own Wright)

I think this is the trade that killed me. I got caught up in acquiring big names and did not think about the fututre. I was in a win it all this year mode which hurts me IMO.

Trade 4:

Westy and Buckhalter (I just get scared by Westy and injuries) for F Gore, M Hicks and M Harrison

Team after trades with a few adds from WW

QB- Kitna, Garrard

RB- Edge, Gore, Lewis, Wright, Hicks, A Hall, Morris

WR- TO, Chad Johnson, M Harrison, D Branch, J Walker, G Jennings

TE- H Miller and Desmond Clark

We will see what happens, but I dont love what I have done to my team. I am 5-2 but just dont feel great about it.

Traded away ADP for Chad

Traded away Portis & Big Ben for Gore & Bulger

Traded away Welker for Jamal

So yeah Im a little pissed after these past 2 weeks even though Im sitting at 6-1. The Welker trade is bothering me the most

Too many people are trying to get me to trade away a championship for them.

I hate predatory owners and those that get suckered into bad trades.

Same here - 6-1. But now just wish I had a big back that gets enough carries to get 100 yards, or short yardage/goal line love. Like ADP or LJ.. Maybe the upgrade at receiver (if you could call it that with Edwards traded away) will still help me to get to the promised land. Still, like other owners here have stated - sometimes the grass ain't always greener..

I traded Romo straight up for Marvin Harrison after week 1 (seemed like a no-brainer - I got Romo at 8.8 and Harrison went at 1.12) and have regretted it ever since.

Judge Smails,

Fantasy momentum shifts like the wind so I wouldn't beat yourself up over anything. As long as it swings back in your favor for weeks 13-16 you're gonna be fine. Besides, I think the team you have now is solid.

Good luck.

:lmao:

someones asking for AD but i can't bring myself to do it... i feel like he's just warming up for some reason.

Trading away a championship.., Anybody else feel like they've done this..
Hrm.... Nope. I think I've traded for championships many times, but don't think I've trade (m)any away. Just for grins, went back and looked at my 2 leagues, one a dynasty the other a keep 4, both with parity across offensive positions. Here are the players I have traded away this year, and the ones I acquired:GaveQB: Grossman, GrieseRB: Westbrook, Chester Taylor, Warrick Dunn, Chris Perry, Michael Pittman, WR: Marvin Harrison (acquired then traded away), Terry Glenn, Joe Horn, Issac Bruce, Braylon Edwards, Michael Clayton, DJ Hackett TE: Zach MillerDT Kevin Williams, LB EJ Henderson, DB Roy Williams Got QB: Tom BradyRB: Adrian Peterson, Norwood, Michael Robinson,WR: Larry Fitzgerald, James Jones, Ted Ginn Jr.TE: Antonio Gates, Greg OlsenDE Jason Taylor, DE Jamal AndersonMultiple rookie draft picks next year.Looking back through the list, only 2 out of 17 players I traded away do I wish I'd kept... Westbrook, and Braylon Edwards who I never owned but traded the pick that he was taken with.Of the players I acquired, only 1 has been a waste as I've already cut Jamal Anderson. The others are either all contributing very positively, or look like they will in future years or are serving their handcuff role fine.

at the start of the season i trade bush and tj for sjax and muhammad, ppr league...needless to say i hate myself and am 2-5

 I almost traded Rivers and Wayne for Romo, primarily because I had some bye week issues at QB (start 2) and my QBs have been lousy. But I didn't pull the trigger, won with only 1 QB in week 7, and am very glad I still have Wayne on my roster.
