Trent Richardson (1 Viewer)

Drafted him in the 2nd round of a very early draft league (before the knee surgery). Didn't get to watch the game today. Was he just horrible? Was Weeden so bad that there was 9 in the box? Someone please enlighten me.

Anything associated with the Browns offense will be a bust for the forseeable near future . They really suck

Horrible? No. He has talent.

Was Weeden so bad that there was 9 in the box? Yes.

Your only hope is that Weeden improves to the point that he can maintain drives. By what I saw, and based on the PIT, BAL, and CIN 6 games yet to be played, GLWT.

philly has an elite defense. that's part of it

my god people... it was his first game of the season with no preseason. in case you didn't notice they had no offense whatsoever. it's easy to go all chicken little after the first week but he will only get better. i think we should wait a few weeks before we start using the b word. to me he was the only bright spot on the whole offense. given the defense knew what was coming every play, he ran with power and decisiveness... there was just nothing there.

the sky is not falling... wow.

:goodposting: This game seemed rather fluky, as in there were a total of eight interceptions thrown between Vick and Weedan. From the snippets I caught, it looked like one of the ugliest games ever played with neither team ever being able to find any type of rhythm. Using this game as some sort of barometer to judge Trich's future outlook would be a mistake. This was Trich's first game as a pro after accumulating a bit of rust in the preseason. There's no need to overact after the first week of the season. He faces CIN next week which looks to be an easier match up on paper. Please, wait before you hit the panic button.

and to add - after richardson being out the entire preseason, the other backs didn't receive a single carry. the only other carry was an end around to a wr, benjamin on a wildcat play. that's another glimmer of light/hope in the darkness that was week one. again, the sky. is not. falling. yet.

What will change? Weeden? 8 man fronts? PIT, BAL,CIN on the schedule 6x? No outside threat? As I said, GLWT

this is the nfl, they're obviously going to make adjustments. to answer your other great questions... yes. yes. no. yes. ok, thanks.ETA: weeden had one of the worst starts in the history of the NFL... he can also only improve. i think 8 man front's will probably become 9 man fronts, but i think richardson can handle it once he finds his legs. their schedule isn't going to change, but i think you knew that. i think gordon and benjamin will start earning more time and will give them threats teams will have to respect. and in response to GLWT - luck is always needed in fantasy football, and will definitely have something to do with it.

Yes, trade him while there are still some owners out there foolish enough to pay for him. Sorry to say it, but you got burned.

yet.
All great points above. For a guy who was trusted to carry the load as much as Shady did on the other end (Richardson's 19 carries to McCoy's 20), there seems the team has no doubt about Richardson's knee, and they are ready to give him all the opportunities he needs to make an impact. If anything, I am buying.

Every single one of your posts lately seems to have been about how little you like Trent Richardson, outside of being a #### in the QB having a baby thread. So I think it's safe to say that you're the furthest thing from an impartial poster that there is, and you're mainly talking to yourself. Nobody wants to engage you in discussion when this is all you bring to the table.....ever.

I drafted him as my #3 but that offense looks epically bad. I see a lot of 15/30 games in the future.
i could understand if this was your first time seeing him play football, but there's reason to be, given his history, optimistic here. this was his first game back from surgery with no preseason, and first time playing against another NFL team taking hits and giving hits...

to call him a bust is absurd after just one nfl game.

No, I just know how easy it is for people to get caught in false hope with a nobody. See Mark Ingram last year. If I stopped just one person from ruining their season by drafting this scrub, or can convince just one person to trade this scrub while he still has some value then my job is done. You are correct, I am impartial. I am impartial against wasting perfectly good draft picks when there are much better players available. I have made a lot of good points that have gone largely ignored because too many people are letting their man-crush get in the way of reality.

you've made a lot of baseless subjective drivel... you call him names and that's about it.

Where is the upside?

- the franchise is an unstable mess

- Cleveland ranked last in rushing in 2011

- they didn't make significant improvements to the offense

- the team is simultaneously trying to integrate a 28 1/2-year-old rookie quarterback

- Richardson had knee surgery in the summer and missed the entire preseason

- Cleveland has the 3rd toughest schedule in the league

The whole team just seems like a fantasy wasteland for 2012.

No, I have made posts stating that he has 9 games against top 10 run defenses and that gets completely ignored. I have also stated, that if you want a RB with Adrian Peterson like talent you should just use your 2nd or 3rd round pick on Adrian Peterson himself. I have also said you should avoid rookie RB's, especially rookie RB's coming off of 2 knee surgeries who have missed the whole pre-season. You should really be directing your hate against the morans who keep sticking up for this scrub.

Yes, I call him a lot of names too because unfortunately sometimes that is the only way to get people with small brains to listen. Stating facts has been completely unproductive.

If I was a Richardson owner, I think I'd ignore the production and focus on the fact that he got a lot of work in a week where he wasn't expected to do much.

How many people passed on AP for this guy?
Sadly, almost everyone who drafted him.
Even Ridley is 10x better and could be had 3-4 rounds later.
Lol you guys are sitting here playing Monday morning quarterback while simultaneously overreacting to everything that happened in week 1. It's not very shark like.
No.... we have been saying this the entire pre-season and week 1 only adds more facts to the story. Yet the kool-aid drinkers just keep coming up with more excuses.

This question is directed towards the people who are still drinking the kool-aid still...

What improvements do you see happening that will give Richardson an actual chance to run anywhere? This horribad passing game is what the Jets were suppose to have.

You may be right, you may be wrong, that isn't the point. Thinking you can come to any concrete conclusions after only one week of games is a mistake. It's too small of a sample size. Saying "OMG they/we should have taken X player over Y" when we've only seen 1/16th of said players total output is just ludicrous. I don't usually pass any real judgment until I've seen at least a quarter of the season play out. Even then, things can change in an instant.

I completely agree it is only 1/16th of the story and stuff can and does change.... but every single week is important as there are only 16 of them (and only 13ish to get you into the playoffs). There is a fine line between being patient and being proactive, this is not like fantasy baseball where it just goes on forever.

If you had to pick one for the rest of the season right now, who would you pick? A rookie on a terrible offense, or Ridley on a terrific offense? This isn't Monday morning quarterbacking. It's quite obvious, even after one game.

Guppies wait 4 games to make a decision. Sharks make the right call after 1 game.

Few good running backs go a full season averaging below 3.5 YPC. If he continues to get 15+ touches every week, he'll have value.

Nowhere to go but up, as far as I'm concerned.

i just sent murray to get richardson in my rebuilding ppr dyno

i think this is going to be the lowest richardsons value will be for a long long time

imo, buy low

Sounds like a good time to buy

He looked ok the few plays I watched. He did pretty much destroy some safety from the Eagles who tried to tackle him head on. Was a nasty hit.

Adrian Peterson has played in a horrific offense for most of his career minus the Favre years. He fared pretty well. Mjd was in an offense last year that made jags fans taste their breakfast again after lunch and he only led the league in rushing.

Trich is a prospect as lofty as those 2. He just needs to shake off rust and ET in game shape after the surgery and no preseason action. The "shark" move is not to trade low. The shark move is to realize that what you have if you drafted him is exactly what you expected to have: a talented rb who will take a few games before he blows up.

It's threads/posts like this, which are littered all over the 1st 2 pages of the SP, that make the in season swimming of the SP brutal. You almost can't enter a thread with out it having turned into a major overreaction piece. I think I'll just avoid the pool until Saturday, when hopefully we'll get some worthwhile information streaming again.

Richardson barely got to the line of scrimmage on most plays. The Eagles defense was all over him. But the one play he did actually get a little room, he ran with power, lowered his head and smashed Coleman back knocking his helmet off. The good news is his knee doesn't seem to be any issue. Cleveland seems like they are okay with giving him a decent amount of touches. The bad news is Cleveland could wind up being the worst offensive team in the league this season? They were awful.

I chose Richardson over Fred Jackson. I was worried about Jackson's age. I feel good about my decision. Ridley went the pick right after mine.

Seriously. You have to love that even coming off the injury where there were rumors of how many touches he'll get going into the game that he got the full load. He may end up having the most lopsided touch ratio of any back in the league this year. He's a rookie with no preseason coming off an injury. Sounds like those that are disappointed had completely unrealistic expectations. He needs to get up to game speed and he'll be fine. Relax.

LOL. Sounds so much like the Mark Ingram threads from last year. And how has Igram improved your team? LOL!

The problem is not Richardson's talent. The problem IS he plays for the Browns. They will have the #1 draft pick this year.

Weeden is a 28 year old from a college spread offense. Should have known he would be the suck in the NFL. Weeden will handicap that entire offense. Little, Massoquoi, Gordon...nobody has value on that offense.

Weeden had one of, if not THE WORST, rookie QB openers in the history of the NFL. And he gets to play PITT, BAL, and CIN 6 times. YAY!

I'm holding out hope because MJD managed to lead the NFL in rushing last season with Blaine Gabbert playing like Weeden.

I like Richardson as a dynasty pick but I was steering clear of him in my redrafts. I just don't see a lot of TD opportunity in the near future in Cleveland which looks like one of the worst offenses in the league. I think the team made an epic mistake by name Weeded the starter early. McCoy is better right now and Weeden looks lost. I like the future with guys like Richardson, Little and Gordon but the weakness at QB is going to kill any short term value in my mind.

For me here are the things to take away from Richardson's opening day;

1. He is going to touch the ball a TON this season. Many of us expected this but seeing that he was limited all through the preseason it would have been understandable for Clev. to ration him in week 1. They didn't. Not only did Richardson touch the ball 20 times vs. the Eagles, he got 100% of the Clev RB rushing attempts. 100%.

2. Weeden needs to improve for Richardson to have the kind of season fantasy owners hope for. Sure, MJD was able to lead the NFL in rushing in a similar situation last year. That is not the norm though and it would really take an aligning of the stars for anyone to complete that feet again. Philly showed a blatent disregard for the Clev passing attack in this game and smothered Richardson on nearly every carry. It's worth stating that Philly should be one of the most improved teams on D in the league this year and are also one of the NFL's very best teams. So the Browns struggling vs. them is no real surprise. I expect the sledding to get a bit easier as the season goes on.

3. Richardson/Weeden need help from the WRs. It's very easy to point to Weeden as the major failure yesterday but in reality the play at WR was putrid. Drops, bad routes and no speration were a constant on nearly every passing attempt. There may be a silver lining to this however as Richardson could see increased activity in the passing game once he is more familar in the offense. Richardson was taken out on a lot of 3rd downs vs. Philly and I don't think that stays the case all season long.

4. Lack of preseason hurt Richardson. As a rookie it's always difficult to transition the speed of the NFL and that was more evident for Richardson, who missed all of preseason. As someone who watched Richardson a good deal in college he clearly had the look of a guy with a little rust on him still.

5. Clev may actually have a defense. The fact that Clev was only one point away from beating a team as good as the Eagles while Weeden threw 4 picks is incredible. Sure, the D gave up a ton of yards (456 to be exact) but they were making plays and really were the only thing that kept Clev in that game. If Clev's D can continue to play at the level they did yesterday Richardson will see some good opportunities to score. They held a dangerous Philly team to only 17 points.

I'm still very optimistic about Richardson's prospects for this year. Sure, week 1 was a let down as far as fantasy points are concerned. The most important take away to me however was the amount of touches Richardson received. It's obvious that he will be the focal point of the Clev offense and even guys on bad teams will get you points if they touch the ball enough.

'PlasmaDogPlasma said:
He was swarmed in the backfield on a high percentage of his carries. When he was able to actually get started he was fine.
If you weren't able to predict this situation with a rookie QB, you kinda deserve to be burned here.

Coach Pat Shurmur admitted that Trent Richardson struggled badly in Sunday's loss to the Eagles.

Richardson broke virtually no tackles and couldn't make the first man miss. It resulted in 39 yards on 19 carries. "He'll play better next week," Shurmur said. In Richardson's defense, he was coming off a knee scope and the Eagles stacked the box, daring an inept Brandon Weeden to beat them. He'll face the Bengals next week.

I'm going to be the first to admit I didn't watch the game. I was flipping between the TEN-NE game and the Redzone channel. The redzone channel showed the play where Richardson knocked the dude's helmet off, which was awesome, and then they showed a ton of interceptions. That has to be one of the worst games ever played in the history of the NFL.

As for Richardson's prospects this year, you have to have the blinders on not to be concerned. The comparisons to Ingram are not valid, this is completely different. Ingram never got the ball, Richardson will never have room to run.

That being said, the Cleveland O-line is better than this. I think Richardson will have a little bit more room to run in future weeks. But it all depends on Weeden. At this point, management has to be concerned. Drafting Weeden might be the thing that gets them all fired. If he ever does develop into a legit player, he's going to be 31 when that finally happens. Horrible pick.

I think running lanes will open up, and he'll get yardage this year. The problem is going to be TD's. I don't know where they are going to come from.

Best case scenario is that he'll start getting the ball more in ppr leagues.
