Trivia: Patriots record breaking (1 Viewer)

Chase Stuart

Footballguy
Since the merger, five teams have been up by 4 games after seven weeks, and none in the past 15 years. The Patriots are the first team since the merger to lead their division by over 4 games since the merger.

Name the five teams that had previously tied for the record, of most games ahead of the #2 team in your division through seven weeks.

You know what else might be a record? Eight, count them, eight threads about the damn Patriots on the 1st page alone!

And I'm not slamming you, cause you do your thing. But everyone else, are you kidding?

They're the biggest news story in the league. What else would you expect?

I'd guess the 72 Dolphins just on the basis of them having the 7-0 record you'd likely need to be in this situation.

OK, all my threads slamming the Pats for poor sportsmanship among other things get stopped, yet these "let's all be in awe of New England" threads get to stay? Come on now!!

Horrible sportsman####. They have to be the least classiest team I have seen in a long time. They are aone of the best teams of all time but I hope they are remembered by how pathetic they ran thier organization of cheating and disrespect for the NFL. No class. You fans of the Patriots should be embarrased.

The Patriots are the best team of any sport to ever put on a uniform. They are Gods of the Earth. I'm surprised they don't win every game 88-0, it must be that they let up.

I think we should make a gigantic sculpture of Bill and Tom and put it on a mountaintop somewhere in New England. We could call it "Mount Patriot". Then fans could truly pay homage.

You obviously didnt catch any of the Titans/Texans game today. or are completely oblivious to it. If I were Belichick, I wouldnt call off the dogs until they were up 70-0 each and every week. That game I just mentioned and the Bills/Dallas game from a couple of weeks ago are the fuel anyone should need to NEVER call off the dogs.

Sorry Chase, your perfectly good trivia has been drowned out by the haters...I guess we should've seen that coming...

My only guess was the 49ers, but Bri beat me to it...can we get some yes/no on them to get this thread back on track?

How do you know that was even what we were talking about? Maybe feeling a little dirty about it. But just like every Patriot fan out there, you have your whole head shoved so far up Belichick's butt that you don't realize how disgusting your organization really is. Wake up.Sorry Chase, I'm done now.Didn't know #### was a bad word............

I think a new rule needs to be instated that if you complain about one team in more than one thread a day you get kicked for a week. Seriously, this has to stop. People are ruining the Shark Pool with their team hate, and I'm not talking about just the Patriots.

I'm guessing one of the Buffalo Bills teams of the early 90s.
The closest year was 1991, but they were "only" three games up.

About what? That we have a historically great team? That the key to this team was acquired in the offseason for a 4th round pick? That the Patriots competition cant even stay with them for a half?Good team coming to Foxboro next week. Lets see what we can do with the Redskins.

What exactly should Patriots fans be embarassed about?

That's not saying much considering their divisional opponents are a combined 3-17, BUF 2-4, NYJ 1-6, MIA 0-7. I'm curious if any 3 teams in the same division have ever been as putrid 7 games into the season?

Easy to be 4.5 games ahead already when the Bills, Jets & Dolphins have all been doing poorly (Bills showing signs of life however).

Through seven weeks, the bottom three teams in the 2007 AFC East are a combined 14 games under .500. Only two other divisions since the merger have reached such a level of putridness. Both times occurred in the AFC Central.

Combined records of their opponents are 17-28. The only team with a winning record is Dallas at 6-1. Take out Dallas and its 11-27. The Patriots are a darn good team, too bad everyone else in the league blows or we'd know just how good. Parity, my foot!

17-21 if you don't the games vs. the Patriots. The last skeptics will have their questions answered in a couple weeks when the Pats rock the Colts.

:goodposting: Like the national media, it's an easy story. Chase, congrats on an AFC East team other than NE winning an extra-divison game. Impressive! Sorry your Jets couldn't make it two.

A team record that had never been accomplished in the 37-year history of the post-merger league isn't interesting to you? Really?Presenting it in a way that allows us to look back at historically great starts isn't up your alley, either, eh?

I love this post. If all Shark Pool-ers responded to every NE thread this way, perhaps that would lessen the weekly onslaught. One can dream, right?

Chase,This "record" as you put it simply illustrates how inept the rest of their division is.

Certainly the 7-0 start had nothing to do with it.

I stand by my statement. New England being 7-0 is due to their dominance. The fact that the Patriots have "set a record" is due to every other team in the division being incompetent. The Patriots gave each of these teams one loss. The other losses were earned against non-Patriot competition. The only way to have a 4.5 game lead after Week 7 is for the rest of the division to stink out loud. Interesting that when the Steelers were 7-0 in 1978 and when the Giants were 7-0 in 1990, each team only had a 3 game lead, because they had two other actual NFL teams in their division. Even the 49ers in 1990 managed only a four-game lead when they were 7-0.The Patriots are historically good and the rest of the division as a trio is historically bad. Miami by themselves might end up being historically bad, too. It's too soon to tell.

Doesn't the shark pool get tired of complaining? All this disdain has got to take its toll on you. Personally, I know that listening to everyone that is on this anti-Patriots campaign frustrates me simply because I am tired of listening to it. I am going to go out on a limb and say that people care as much about how any one person feels about any one team (Patriots) like we care about your fantasy football roster. It has no place in the Shark Pool. It is old news and has no impact on the issues we come here to read about and discuss. Frankly, it is nonsense like this that makes serious contributors to the Shark Pool stay away. And that is a fact.

Bump for those that wanted the trivia answers.

cool trivia - wouldn't have guessed the rams...

and everyone moaning about it, yes of course this "record" is partly due to having the rest of your division be bad. that's half of the question! and the other teams that were part of the answer, they were playing in divisions where the rest of the teams were bad as well. i'm not sure how this question somehow became a means to try to diminish the patriots being really good this year.

Once again, drop the Cowboys (which I don't dispute is a quality win and shows the Pats are a strong team.) That means the 6 other teams the Pats have played have a combined winning percentage of 11-20 or 35% against non-Pats competition. That's awful.I'm looking forward to the Colts / Pats, likely will be a preview of the most important postseason game this season (since the winner has a good chance to end up the SB champ as well.)

Sound like some W column envy today. As for the quesiton, my guess would be the 9ers of the 80's. They were always out ahead, in what I remember as a pathetic division.

Is there some rule that you have to read every post? It's the marketplaceo f ideas concept. When people respond, it stays on the same page. If tey don't, it goes away. But, if it doens't interest you, simply don't open it.
