According to Rotoworld the Bucs have agreed to terms with LB Jeremiah Trotter on a one-year contract. After waiting for Quarles to step down..I sure hope this doesn't affect Ruud's starting status. :kicksrock:From the Blogger:

Bucs agree to terms with TrotterPosted By Roy Cummings at Sep 03, 2007 at 02:27 PM Updated Sep 03, 2007 at 03:56 PM TAMPA - The Bucs continued to tweak their roster Monday, this time in a big way, by agreeing to terms with free agent linebacker Jeremiah Trotter. Trotter is expected to arrive in Tampa and sign the deal on Monday night, according to his agent Jimmy Sexton. Sexton said the contract is for one year and worth more than the league minimum salary. Sexton also said the plans call for Trotter to work primarily at middle linebacker. Whether that means the Bucs will have a new starter there to begin the season is still up for debate as Barrett Ruud as been slated to start there. Trotter became available a couple weeks ago when he was let go by the Philadelphia Eages. He met with the Bucs shortly thereafter and agreed to terms on a deal over the weekend

It surely doesn't bode well for Ruud. After all the time he's spent there, they must still not be too confident in him.

Trotter can't play the Tampa-2. Even though Kiffin has trended toward a more aggressive scheme over the past season and offseason, Trotter is unlikely to unseat Ruud. Doesn't make much sense as depth or special teams help, though, so it'll be interesting to see what the Bucs have planned here.

He is such a beast in run defense that he will probably play in short yardage at worst. I do agree that he seems like an odd fit in the Tampa-2.

Hi..

Tampa season ticket holder here. Rudd is starting !

Everything I have heard is he's here as a back up / depth pick up. He will play running plays & when monte kiffen wants a blitz package.

He stated in an interview he's just here to help out how ever he could.

Trotter is not a read & react type of player, that's what went wrong when he came to Washington. He is an aggressive up & downhill LB. Unless they are throwing out some new schemes, which was rumored previously w/ a possible 3-4 alignment, he is the ideal fit. I do think that it doesn't sit well for Ruud. As the season goes along, it can't help the a savy and good vet is sitting right there after you've waited two years to get the job. Might not be a major threat at first, but can see 1st & 2nd down duty possibly getting spelled for Ruud, IF he doesn't perform up to their standards.
