Trying to rebuild and compete in dynasty this year....how did I do? (1 Viewer)

This has been a team in rebuild mode for 3 years.  Always finishing in the middle of the pack and missing on first round picks (Bernard, Yeldon).  My goal was to keep building for the future, but if things fell right, could be in position to win it all.  Thoughts?  Advice?

This is a 12 team .5 ppr dynasty.  New additions through draft and free agency will be in bold font:

Here is my team:

QB: Derek Carr, Mitchell Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes II

Banking on Carr to stay healthy and Trubisky to step into the starting role by Carr's bye week.  Safe options are available (Bradford, Siemain, Hoyer) if needed.

RB: Jay Ajayi, Isaiah Crowell, Giovani Bernard, T.J. Yeldon, Joe MixonDe'Angelo HendersonChris Carson

Hopefully Ajayi and Crowell live up to their expectations and that Mixon gets more involved as the year progresses.  If either Henderson or Carson hit, that will be the cherry on top. Not much left on the waiver wire with upside.

WR: Jordy Nelson, Brandin Cooks, Sammy Watkins, Jordan Matthews, Corey Coleman, Josh Doctson, Cooper KuppJuJu Smith-Schuster

Strength of my team.....looking for big things from Nelson, Cooks, and Coleman this year.  Watkins sits the bench until I see more.  Kupp is the wildcard and could possibly contribute if the cards fall correctly.  Matthews and Doctson are on a short leash for bye week replacements.  Would love to trade one of them for a late round 2018 pick.  Temped to pick up ArDarius Stewart for Matthews or Doctson.

TE: Travis Kelce

Need a back up, but will address the situation when it comes up.  No one of note except deep sleepers....the top rookies went earlier than I was comfortable drafting them.  Stay healthy Kelce!

K: No one yet

Will pick up a kicker before week one....the question is, who do I drop if I can't find a trading partner?

Def: Texans D/ST

Decided to pick them up early to avoid trying to stream each week....didn't work out so well since I wasn't the only one trying to do it.

Notable subtractions from last year's team for draft picks: Jarvis Landry, Rishard Matthews

The team looks pretty good.  As is, if nothing changes I'd probably drop Carson if you have to drop someone for a kicker. Seattle does have a crowded backfield and while he has good potential even if he turns out to be the guy this year in Seattle there is no guarantee that they wont turn around and draft 2-3 more new guys next year. I'd keep Matthews and Doctson over Stewart. I'd also look at trading one of your QB's, probably Mahomes because of his bye week being the same as Carr's. There is also no need to have 2 rookie QB's on the roster that might be sitting on the bench all year. I can see keeping one for dynasty purposes but not two. That drop will also give you more flexibility in making roster changes during the year.

Thank you for the input beerbuff.

I'm really trying to get out of finishing in the middle of the pack rut.  I think that is why I invested so heavily into 2 rookie QBs (Trubisky and Mahomes) and bought lottery tickets in Carson and Henderson.  I would rather put stock into players who can become high ceiling guys rather than safer picks who have a higher floor value.  Those safe picks give you a solid team, but not enough to put you over the top imo.  So, I might be more in a re-build mindset than I first thought.  Most of my picks were based on potential rather than an immediate return on this year.  Thank you again for taking the time to give me your input.

I think you are putting too much weight on your rookie bench sitting QB's. If Kizer is available snatch him up since he is playing and your guys aren't and probably won't all year unless there is an injury. If not, just keep Mahomes and drop Trubisky.  KC will be moving on to Mahomes next year for sure while Chicago still will have Glennon under contract and could possibly play him again next year if he performs well. Also, neither of your bench sitters come close to Carr so why not plan on keeping Carr next year and just one of your QB's. You don't need 3 QB's. Being the second highest paid QB in the league you know the Raiders will be keeping Carr flush with weapons more so than the receiving corps in Chicago or KC.

Beerbuff is spot on.  With benches as small as these, you should try to roster guys who will have immediate impact - in the short run you'll find out what they are sooner and in the long run, you have something with value that you can keep or trade.

Please have a peek at mine!
