(KFFL) Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the San Diego Chargers will soon tender restricted free agent RB Michael Turner.

Being tendered means being given a contract offer, in other words san diego is "showing him the money" so he can remain LT's backup. This sucks for ff owners who hoped turner would become a starter elsewhere

I may be wording it a little wrong but from what I understand a "Tender" is to essentially give him a contract that if any team tries to match, they will have to compensate with draft picks depending on the amount of the contract.

No it doesn't. This is a completely expected move. The size of the tender is much more important, and this article says nothing about that.

It means is that he's been offered a contract at the qualifying rate. Now what rate they decided on is still unknown. It is widely expected that they will offer him at least the 1st round qualifying offer, and maybe even the 1st and 3rd round compensation qualifying offer.

I read an article earlier this week saying that if he's qualified for just the first rounder, then that is an indication that they are willing to talk trade with him. If he's tendered both the first and third, he will be a Charger this year.

However, whatever they qualify him at, it's far from done on whether or not he's a Charger next year or somewhere else.

I was listening to some reports today about what they expect people to be tendered and currently people are expecting him to be tendered the 1st & 3rd. Schaub is expected to be the second highest tender at a 1st.

I expect them to tender him at the first and third so they can try and dictate where he goes. Doesn't mean much as they could still trade him for less than that if they choose.

Virtually any RFA of any value/import gets a tender. Considering Turner is the only young, potential franchise RB available it would've been shocking for SD not to tender him at the highest tender to give themselves leverage.

Wow, the ignorance in knowledge towards the beginning of this thread is rather alarming.

I can't believe some of you guys don't know what restricted free agency and 'tender' offers mean.

However, Bears GM Jerry Angelo was MORE ignorant several years ago when he tendered offers to DWayne Bates and Warrick Holdman, but he forgot to 'check the box' which meant if the Bears elected NOT to match the offer from the other team that the Bears would get no compensation. All he had to do was 'check the box' and they would have gotten a third rounder. So he ended up overpaying Holdman to retain him, and then he matched Bates offer, and then promptly waived him. Meaning that any team worse than Minnesota could have acquired him. Nobody did, and Minnesota got their guy. And sucked.
