TV Guru's - Looking for a TV for Football Season - (1 Viewer)

Gottabesweet

Footballguy
Currently have a plasma in the living room and it's only 50" Looking to get a 60-65 inch TV that'll be perfect for sports watching.

Looking to spend no more than $1,300

What are my options, What do you have, and do you like it?

Does it need to be at least 240hz because of sports watching refresh rates?

Preferably off amazon as I'm searching there.

I was looking at a 4K TV Vizio M series for $1,200 but every time I read reviews on amazon I end up looking at a different TV and it's a never ending process.

TV guys help!

Mine (not a 4k) has a 120 refresh rate and I often see golf shots or long passes/kicks wobble. Kinda sux.
Yeah what I don't understand is this one says 240Hz but it's 4 ports at 60Hz each, not sure what that means..

Stunning Ultra HD picture - 8.3 million pixels and 4x the resolution of 1080p Full HD

  • Spatial Scale Engine - Upscale HD to UHD
  • Full-Array LED Backlight w/ 32 Active LED Zones
  • Clear Action 720 w/ 240Hz Effective Refresh Rate
  • 5 HDMI / 1 USB Ports
  • Ultra HD Smart TV w/ QWERTY remote and dual-band WiFi
  • V6 Six-core processor - Quad-core GPU + Dual-core CPU

Just got this about 2 weeks ago from Amazon.

Samsung UN60J6200

60"

Been watching pre-season games, golf etc and I'm very happy with just some minor calibration tweaks.

This is what they have right now and at $897 it's $50 less than what I paid.

My brother just got a pretty nice 65" Vizio off Amazon for under $1k.
Probably the same one I'm looking at.

http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M55-C2-55-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B00T63YW38

The 60 or 65" I'm just curious about the refresh rate.
This is the one he got: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VIMIV6E/ref=s9_simh_gw_p504_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=17HSCA2S75WEX38W461T&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2079475242&pf_rd_i=desktop

Not 4k, but it's a pretty solid picture, especially for the price ($900).

Looks like some good reviews, I see it at 897.50 + $172.00 tax - where the 65" is $1,200 with free shipping.

The refresh rate is only 120? Wouldn't hockey and football fast paced games be choppy?

I do like that it's the 2015 model.

Refresh Rate: 120CMR (Effective)

  • Backlight: LED
  • Smart Functionality: Yes, Built in Wi-Fi: Yes
  • Dimensions (W x H x D): TV w/ stand: 54.1" x 34" x 13", TV w/o stand: 54.1" x 31.5" x 3.7"
  • Inputs: 2 HDMI, 2 USB

I'm thinking I want at least 240Hz right? everything I'm reading says 120 and below just wont work for sports.
I don't think it makes a huge difference. Have watched sports a 60, 120 and 240. The 60 does usually get grainy from time to time, but the 120 was pretty solid.

Apparently most FBG's have TV's above that price point I'm searching haha.

Only 3 replies, but thats what I thought, however I'm used to my Plasma 600hz which I'm primarly only watching sports.

At some point I just need to order to recieve before Week 1

My plasma in the basement is where I watch the most sports as well. Of course, no issues with motion blur on those.

Here's a nice 4k set in your price point. For 65 inches it's $300 more. Good reviews.

(60 inches is one of the options you select)

http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M70-C3-70-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B00T63YVAM
What is the difference between 4K and 4k Ultra?
No difference. They just use Ultra to say it's better than regular HD.
Does 4K really matter for today's cable? Is there a newer level of HD that they deliver that makes the TVs better, or do the 4Ks just process the HD better? Or is it just something that is related to DVD and BlueRay?

Im reading there's not much 4k content but it still coverts it to the highest level better than 1080p or whatever they call it these days. Some channels and app's have 4k content and the Vizo' 4k's are roughly the same price as other non 4k tv's I might as well?

It's a non Prime 3rd party retailer.

People either love or hate projector suggestions, but I recently did a BenQ projector, 106" screen and Sonos sound bar (all Amazon) for about $2k total. All of the wiring, audio splitter, and install costs brought it up to around $3k. Quite the experience watching preseason so far- huge difference from even a 65" TV.

I've been looking into projectors for my basement (have an old plasma that is on it's last legs). Have you used yours for any gaming? My kids are on there a lot, and if it lags, I'd never hear the end of it. I've read that DLP is the way to go for the projector vs. LCD. Which is yours?

I've got an Epson LCD projector. Not as crisp a picture as my plasma or the 4k's, but with a picture 4 times bigger, that doesn't bother me. Only gaming has been my granddaughter on a WII but there wasn't any apparent lag on that. Not exactly heavy-duty gaming, but the reviews I read before buying it seemed to indicate it was OK. Projector, 105" screen, projector mount, Denon 5.1 AV stereo (with speakers I had laying around) and cabling totaled about $1100.

Mine is a DLP. I actually don't know that much about projectors, basically just went off of a recommendation. As far as gaming, I've only played about an hour of assassins creed 3 on my PS3 so far, but no problems.

Leaning 4k Vizio 60" my living room isn't small but isn't large either. Will the 51 to 60" be a big time jump in screen size. I get it 9 inches (that's what she said) or trying to swing for a 65" be the move.

I think the price jump was $1498 for 65 and $1198 for 60

I have the 60" Vizio in our living room. I'd give it a 7/10.
4K? what hertz? what don't you like about it?
Not 4K. 120hz. Its a great TV for the money. Loaded with features, but It can be a little tile-y (rarely). The biggest issue I have with it is there is no sound when turning the volume up or down and its a little slow to turn on our receiver via arc. This is our second one and the first one didn't have either of these issues so it may just be a slightly defective unit. I would give our first one a 9/10 (thats why we purchased another one - the first one got water in it from a plant that sat on a stand above the TV). We have the E series.

Here is a decent site to start your review process. http://www.rtings.com/

I'm a plasma tv owner. I think the color and fast movement on LCD, LED, etc. tv's are inferior.

Bummed that plasma technology is getting phased out, but OLED tv's appear to be compareable.

Plasma is dead but OLED are the best of both worlds. Brightness of LED and picture quality of Plasma. I have suggested multiple times to get the biggest OLED he can get.

It's either a price mistake, bait and switch, something. I have a hard time believing that one store is $1k less than every other reputable internet site.

Maybe it's legit, I'd just rather not make a $1,499 mistake.

That's why you have protection from the CC. The one thing it could be is a refurb. If I was in the market I would likely give it a try.

Got at Epson Home Cinema projector for about $300 and a good Monoprice 5.1 speaker system. Projecting on wall HD at about 150" with awesome sound for sports, movie, music. Loving my setup and wishing I had done it years ago - all at under $700. No way I would go back to some miniscule 60-70" screen now. :) Kids and neighbors enjoy the 200+" driveway outdoor movies as well.

How dark does your room need to be for that Epson?

Yeah, thats where I'm leaning. Also will need HDMI 2.0a cords, and have to convince Direct TV to give me the Genie's for free.

Just make sure that thing doesn't the 3 ball issue. Nothing worse than seeing 3 balls being thrown from third base to first base.

I mean really. How can a manufacturer even produce this crap and people actually buy it and be ok with it, just cause it has a bright (torch mode) screen?

I have this projector and love it. http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-HD25-LV-1080p-Theater-Projector/dp/B00BQWX1P2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440095994&sr=8-1&keywords=optoma+hd25-lv

It may not have reference colors, shadow, or black levels. But all of those are quite good and the amount of light this thing puts out makes it ideal for parties or watching stuff in non-dark rooms. Movies in dark rooms and the image pops off the screen.

How much 4K media is there (or will there be in 5 years)? I think I'd go with #3. Save the 4K stuff for the basement projector.

As of now, just Netflix and Amazon. I did see DirecTV has 4k boxes, but not sure there is much 4k content out there at the moment.
