Twitter is about to Destroy Itself (1 Viewer)

So excited to see the new version of those tweets that are like 40 characters long with 100 characters of hash tags.

I wonder if it will show the first 140 or so characters and the you will have to click on it to show the rest? Otherwise it will be a terrible move. I don't want some bad 10,000 to take up a whole page of scrolling. This would be very inconvenient.

Has anyone been following this Milo thing?

Twitter apparently de-verified someone because of his political views. Apparently gay pundit who writes for Breitbart.

Twitter just keeps doing stupid stuff that no one asked for:

Twitter To Introduce Algorithmic Timeline As Soon As Next WeekA Tweetstorm is brewing in San Francisco.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/alexkantrowitz/twitter-to-introduce-algorithmic-timeline-as-soon-as-next-we#.cdyevvAEE

The short of this is that Twitter is about to ruin a very good thing.

How do I explain this? Feeds will no longer be in chronological order.

No, Twitter will now decide what is in timelines. It's absolutely stupid, dumb, ridiculous and these people have no idea what is good about their product. This is specifically designed to attract dumb people and blunt smart people. Sorry, that's the facts, because if you go to twitter for information this is designed to defeat that. If you want constant repetition about actresses and diet fads, it's just great.

It's hard to monetize content when there are technical limitations on the amount of content you can post.

It's a tough challenge. Twitter has become an indispensable tool but doesn't generate revenue. The personal data Facebook and Google can mine is much more valuable than Twitter's,

As a SF resident I'm torn. Their HQ has been a positive step in the renaissance of the mid-Market neighborhood but they employ a bunch of d-bags who drive up housing prices and talk loud in bars.

They make about $700M per quarter. And they havent begun to fully explore their data monetiztion opportunities (advertising, etc). This is a simple case of a company with newfound wealth adding too many new product managers who are creating too much uneeded functionality.

i mean with twitlonger there are already services that do this exact thing, they are just basically adopting it themselves, right?

That's not a huge amount of revenue. The mobile UI limits the number of ads they can present without messing with the customer base. How many more ads can you stand?

Some of those product managers are working on the technology or monetization opportunity that will save the company. Others are just taking up space.
