Indianapolis Colts LB Tyjuan Hagler is out for the season.
Hagler, a starter at strong-side linebacker during the first seven games of the season, sustained a ruptured biceps in the Colts’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday. The Colts placed him on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season.
The Colts activated LB Cody Glenn from the practice squad.
Second-year LB Philip Wheeler, a third-round selection in the 2008 NFL Draft from Georgia Tech and one of the team’s top special teams players this season, could get time at the spot, Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell said. He also said rookie Ramon Humber will compete for the position.
“He has no choice,” Caldwell said when asked if Wheeler is ready for an increased role. “He’s a guy who has been around for a couple of years. He has been in the system. He knows it. He’s certainly going to get his opportunity,
“He has been here a couple of years, so we fully expect that if he’s in there, he’ll play well.”
