Uh oh, Bill O'Reilly stepped in it (1 Viewer)

You had to go messing with a lady.  An old lady.  An old lady with a wig.  A black old lady with a wig.  :fro:

When I saw him on "Outnumbered" today I knew he'd step in it. Just didn't know he step in so much of it.

Sorry.  Assumed the whole world heard about it by now.  He said Maxine Waters looked like James Brown.   :lmao:

Not exactly.

He said she was wearing a James Brown wig or a wig like James Brown wore. Except he didn't even have the information about James Brown right. Brown didn't wear a wig, it was all his own hair. He had it elaborately styled, but it was all his own. O'Reilly assumed Brown's hair had to be a wig because it wasn't kinky/curly like most black guys, but Brown's hair was naturally straight - here is a mug shot from an arrest in his later years and this is obviously not a wig: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/463730092854681282/

<sarcasm>

Overreaction!

Didn't anyone catch this piece?

“She’s a sincere individual. Whatever she says she believes, she’s not a phony, and that’s old-school,” O’Reilly said. “So we’re giving Maxine a break here. I love you Maxine, I want to see you on ‘The (O’Reilly) Factor,’ and when hell freezes over I’m sure that’ll happen.”
See! They were only giving mean'ol'Maxine a break.

Givin her a break!

She should be thankful, and the Bill haters should be ashamed!

</sarcasm>

What #####-bags! :(

I honestly don't understand nationalists.

Well known black progressive calls for patriotism on the House floor and the reaction from Republicans - the party of Lincoln - is to mock her appearance?
She deserves to be mocked. What a hate filled witch.

"My position against this president and his administration is clear," Waters said. "I oppose this president. I do not honor this president. I do not respect this president."

The guy that beat his wife and threw her down stairs?  That Bill O'Riley?
If I'm ever lucky enough to see Bill in an airport or on a flight, I'm going to quiz him about those transcripts.

"Drag any women down the stairs by their neck lately Bill?"

"Still an absentee Dad Bill?"

"Oh, are you getting angry?  Do you need to go outside and punch a tree?"

He was not saying or even implying in any way that James brown wore a wig.  Where do you cone up with this?   He was saying her hair looks like James Brown's.  If someone says it looks like she is wearing a Marilyn Monroe wig, it is ridiculous to conclude that person is saying anything about Marilyn wearing a wig

I see.the snowflakes are coming out in mass.  Let's spend months mocking Trump's orange hair, but let's be hyper-sensitive about an observation about Maxine Water's hair.    THe Blizzard of 2017.

Squizz will not stand in silence while the good name of James Brown's hair is sullied by the likes of BOR dammit.  Ever vigilant.

Right.  She said what more than 1/2 the country thinks, so she's a hate filled witch.

What a stupid ### comment from O'Reily.  If he wasn't such an ####### and snowflake, and had anything of substance to say other than this derogatory remark, we don't have this thread.

Let's spend months mocking Trump's orange hair,
???

People have been mocking his hair and his orange-ness for decades.  But not his "orange hair".

Anyone who ever thought/hoped that the mocking of those things might stop because of his entry into politics is a total fool. A total and absolute fool.

So it is OK to mock the President for his hair and not OK to mock a representative for her hair. OK got it.

Seems like he was treating her as an equal to anyone else

She's an awful, evil human being.
For once I agree with flapgreen. Not on the evil part; I don't like to put that on people unless they truly deserve it (like ISIS or the leaders of North Korea). But she truly is awful, perhaps the most awful Democratic politician in my lifetime.

Seems like a silly thing to be caught on, but this is the line that I think could cause one to come to that conclusion:

“If we have a picture of James — it’s the same wig. You’re all wrong about this.”

Her hair does kind of look like James Brown's. Bill O'Reilly isn't very good at comedy though he's also pretty rough to look at so he probably shouldn't be too critical of people's looks.

For one reason (among many) she is the only politician I'm aware of who openly cheered on the looting of stores following the Rodney King riots. While every other responsible civic leader, black and white, was urging people back into their homes, Maxine Waters urged them out, calling it a "justifiable rebellion" and even excusing the beating of Reginald Denny as "black rage". (Denny was the innocent white truck driver who was pulled out of his car and beaten within an inch of his life).

I will never forgive her for that; she can go #### herself so far as I'm concerned.

"hate-filled witch?"  Do you understand what ANY of those words mean, individually, much less collectively?  Because the quote you used (one would assume as "proof" of your claim) doesn't even come close to demonstrating hate or witchcraft (witchiness??)

I don't know much about her, see her on the occasional talking head news show.

Were these comments made in the heat of the moment? Were they elaborated on later?

So far as I know, she never took them back.

Anyhow, who cares? Mel Gibson spouted his ugliness in "the heat of the moment", too. Sometimes it takes the heat of the moment to let people know who you truly are.

Mel was under the influence of a lot of booze . That was his truth serum. I don't  think Maxine was loaded

Mel Gibson's comments don't really have any context or any other way to explain them. Her comments were made I'm guessing after the LA Riots and Rodney King trial a bit different than some drunk ####### rambling on about whatever Gibson was talking about IMO.

I have nothing in common with this woman I really don't know much about her and don't care about her hair or ####### Bill O'Reilly trying to be a comedian.

When I see a comment that she is an awful, evil human being I am curious as to where that is coming from.

Doing a little googling, here's what I am seeing she said:

"Waters said 'If you call it a riot it sounds like it was just a bunch of crazy people who went out and did bad things for no reason. I maintain it was somewhat understandable, if not acceptable. So I call it a rebellion.' She also said it was 'a spontaneous reaction to a lot of injustice' and 'The anger in my district is righteous. I'm just as angry as they are.' She responded to the mass looting of Korean-owned stores by saying: 'There were mothers who took this as an opportunity to take some milk, to take some bread, to take some shoes. They are not crooks. Everybody in the street was not a thug or a hood.'"

Not seeing the Reginald Denny comments which sound pretty disgusting.

From an article that was talking about the stuff she said a month later:

"On one news show after another, Mrs. Waters talked about pain and anger and suffering. But journalists and others kept coming back to the question of whether she was condemning the violence. Some have suggested that she has not done so, or at least not forcefully enough.

"I said in a 101 different ways that violence is not right, that I do not condone violence, that people cannot endanger their own or others' lives," Mrs. Waters said in a recent interview. "What I didn't do is to use the airwaves to call people hoodlums and thugs for burning down their own communities. It only makes them madder when you call them hoodlums and thugs, as the President did." Explaining Anger

She also said that many of those involved in the looting were people with no previous criminal records who stole because they saw others doing it. In the same way that leaving your keys in your car can tempt someone into becoming a criminal, Mrs. Waters said, the mayhem turned good but poor people into looters.

"Well, the keys were in the car for women who wanted shoes for their children and bread," she said. "Many of them didn't feel good about it afterward, but they did it."

Mrs. Waters said that those who criticize her response to the rioting do not understand her role or that of other black elected officials.

"There really are expectations from whites and white journalists that we're going to go out there and say, 'cool it, baby, cool it,' " she said. "But that's all they want us to do. I know how to talk to my people. I know how to get my point across and I think I did it."

You can't make fun of her because shes black.

Another problem I have with Waters is that she plays right into the conservative theory that all of the anti-Trump stuff is partisan in nature. Because for Maxine it's true. She would be for impeaching Trump even if he was completely innocent. She was for impeaching Bush as well.  She is ready to assume the worst about Republican. She questioned 9/11. If the Birther issue had been about a Republican, she would have been all over it. She is the Democrats' version of Michele Bachman.

the Rodney King riots.
Tim, don't hijack, just evaluate Waters' speech on the House floor:

“Mr. Speaker, my position against this president and his administration is clear. I oppose this president. I do not honor this president. I do not respect this president.

African-Americans have struggled and fought historically, many African-Americans have paid a huge price fighting for justice and equality in this country, have died for it. I don’t have to call the names of Martin Luther King and all the others. We have paid a price, we have fought.

But guess what? Despite the fact that America has not always been there for us, we’ve always been there for America. We have fought in America’s wars. We have suffered discrimination, we have suffered isolation and undermining. But we stand up for America, oftentimes when others who think they are more patriotic, who say they are more patriotic, do not.

When we fight against this president, and we point out how dangerous he is for this society and for this country, we’re fighting for the democracy. We’re fighting for America. We’re saying to those who say they’re patriotic but they’ve turned a blind eye to the destruction that he’s about to cause this country, ‘You’re not nearly as patriotic as we are.’ ..."
- Agree or disagree?

These to me are a much better criticism of her than things said in right after the Rodney King verdict.
