Uh oh, Bill O'Reilly stepped in it (1 Viewer)

He dismissed her opinion by commenting on her appearance.

What he said was rooted in misogyny. But I'm not sure if it was "racist." However I can see how what he said can be considered a racial microaggression. Similarly to how asking a black person if they make kool-aid can be viewed as a micro aggression, which also happened on Fox News.

If you dig deeper into the politics of African American hair and the workplace, then you can see how it can be "problematic" for a white man to comment on a black woman's hair. He implied that her hair was "distracting."

Snoop dog shooting a pop gun that pops out a flag with the word "BANG" on it as part of a music video?  That's your call for violence? good lord.

I'm not familiar with the others.  I'm assuming Big Sean is another artist.

I hate to sound sane here, but: I don't go around saying that "the right is calling for violence OMG ZOUNDS!" when Ted Nugent gave vaguely threatening interviews about Obama, because, well, reason and thoughtfulness.  But if that's how you want to roll, have at it.
It's no more a call to violence than what O'Reilly said about George Tiller, which was my point.

:lmao:  Do you really believe this crap?  Rooted in misogyny?  A racial microagression?  You must have gone to the same college as @Ramsay Hunt Experience

Wasn't aware of that.  Just looked it up and it does make me respect him less.  There's a fine line between fair criticism and inciting violence, and it looks like he may have crossed that line.  Irresponsible and somewhat despicable on his part.

Curious though Tim - there's a lot of overt calls for violence coming from the Left these days towards the President.  I don't see the same level of outrage from you on that.  Just an observation.
You'll have to give me an example of a TV personality calling for violence towards the President. I condemned Madonna, if that's what you're referring to, but that was just a stupid two second shtick statement, not someone night after night calling somebody else a baby murderer.

But in general Higgs I don't feel the need to be an "equal opportunity critic". Sometimes I'm even handed and sometimes I'm not and sometimes I'm a complete hypocrite. It's up to you and anybody else who reads this to judge if I'm being one in this particular instance.

  You feeling down today or something?

How was what he said racist?
How many white women has he ever made negative comments on about their hair style?

And O'Reilly has a documented history of racism. Here are few samples, more at link:https://mediamatters.org/research/2017/03/28/bill-o-reilly-s-history-racism/215845 and don't shoot the messenger as these are O'Reilly's exact quotes.

O’Reilly Has History Of Racism

O’Reilly: African-Americans Are “Ill-Educated And Have Tattoos On Their Foreheads.” During an interview with Trump during the April 4 edition of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, O’Reilly said “many” African-Americans “are ill-educated and have tattoos on their foreheads and I hate to be generalized about it but it's true.” Despite intense criticism, O’Reilly doubled down on his claim the following week. [Fox News, The O’Reilly Factor, 4/11/16, 4/18/16]

O’Reilly Was Surprised “There Was No Difference" Between A Harlem Restaurant And Other New York Restaurants. Discussing a visit to Sylvia's, a famous restaurant in Harlem, O'Reilly reported that he "had a great time, and all the people up there are tremendously respectful," adding, "I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship." [Media Matters, 9/21/07]

O’Reilly: Go To Any "Mexican Restaurant In The World, They Come Out And They're Singing 'Guantanamera' With The Sombreros On." Angry about a college president who apologized after receiving criticism for posting a photo of his staff wearing sombreros and mustaches, O’Reilly claimed that “if it's racist, I can't go to the Mexican restaurants anymore.” He added, “If you go to any restaurant, Mexican restaurant in the world, they come out and they're singing ‘Guantanamera’ with the sombreros on.” From the November 10, 2015, edition of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor:

  You feeling down today or something?
Actually I'm home with the stomach flu.

But sometimes I am a hypocrite. Almost anybody who takes part in political discussions is. And I am sick to death of these constant challenges- "you criticize conservatives, but how come you never criticize liberals, etc etc". Enough with that ####. I'll criticize who I want when I want and I don't need to be even handed about it. I can't stand Maxine Waters and I detest Bill O Reilly and if that's unfair or inconsistent to somebody, then #### it.

Who the hell thinks like this and where are they hiding?
In the FFA, that's where.  Take a gander at the Free Speech thread if you want a real laugh.  Some of the self appointed "best and the brightest" of the FFA are supporting a teacher who docked a student's paper for using the word "mankind" (apparently it's sexist - who knew?).  I kid you not.

It has not been PC since the early 80s and probably before that. If you want to have an arbitrary marker how about comparing the opening lines of the original Star Trek series of the 60s to Star Trek The Next Generation in 1987?

[Opening narration] Star Trek

Capt. Kirk: Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its 5-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

[opening monologue] Star Trek The Next Generation

Capt. Picard: Space... The final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. It's continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before.

It's reasonable for the teacher to have docked the student's paper for not following guidelines (if what I read was correct).

You seem to have issue more that the teacher issued those guidelines in the first place, which is likely where you should take issue...not on the issue of the teacher actually enforcing the rules laid out for the assignment.

No Democrat I have ever known seriously thought Biden was or is racist. If Joe Biden is racist, his voting record in the senate didn't reflect it. Nor did his actual rhetoric on the campaign trail or in public speeches (outside of perhaps occasionally misspeaking - and he made a few remarks that were not PC, like about owners of 7/11s).

O'Reilly has supported legislation that is discriminatory against blacks, latinos and minorities and is a strong supporter of racial profiling. MM documented his history of racist remarks (see prior link) and there are plenty of more examples if one wants to make a Google search for examples.

She gives a speech about how AA have been discriminated against, isolated and are standing up for America. He responds by saying he wasn't listening because her hair looks funny? Maybe he didn't mean it as dismissive, racist or sexist but he's certainly not helping with any of the stereotypes around the Republican Party.

This thread has really taken off since I left for work this morning.

In my opinion, my labeling of the antics displayed here by BOR as #####-baggy, have nothing to do with politics per se. Thus, I really do not care about Maxine's past, present or future...it is not pertinent to my critique.

It has more to do with the media, press, etc. using ad hominem to avoid dealing with the true news of the issue being covered. I am just as troubled whenever any media outlet (left, right, center) avoids dealing with the facts in regards to any politician (left, right, center).

As an example, I REALLY hated when the CBS morning news played the clips of Stephen Colbert mocking Trump this morning. This is not because I hated SC's mocking; rather, I just felt like it was ####ty journalism and self-promotion by CBS to include it in a "News Program". Thus, CBS...you were #####-bags here too!

When I tune in to news, I want news...I don't want partisan personal attacks. I can watch the comedians directly for scathing, witty political satire. They can mostly do it it well. BOR and Charlie Rose can't...at least when they are trying to be true journalist.

My 2 cents.

Reading this (and many of the other political threads) all I can think of is the SNL where William Shatner/Captain Kirk tells the Trekkies to get a life...it's as if some people (both left and right...always gotta do the disclaimer) have perfected the art of being outraged over nothing...just can't be a healthy way to lead your life...

He could apologize for an insensitive joke. Bill should know better really. This is kind of the thing I'd expect from assclowns on Fox & Friends though. Maxine could just ignore him rather than take the bait. There are no winners here.
Insensitive. :lmao: Lighten up Francis. Is she sensitive about the look of her hair or something? Fact is her hairdo looks like his. Big ####ign deal. Your attitude is what is wrong with this country. It's a ####### joke about someone's hair. This country has really gone into the crapper. We have way too many low IQ, losers pissing and moaning about jokes while claiming it to be insensitive when the other side says it.

Jesus, you righties are a sensitive bunch.  Bill O'Reilly said something stupid.  He knew he said something stupid, elsewise he wouldn't have apologized.

People say stupid things from time to time.  It doesn't make them bad people.

Now, you may quibble that it unfair that it is "stupid" for an old white guy who is a television personality to make fun of a black woman's hair.  We can have a legitimate argument over whether or not it's unfair.  But there really isn't any argument that it will make a lot of people mildly offended if an old white guy makes fun of a black woman's hair.

And now you righties come back with your typical snowflake crying about how the world is unfair that white people can't say mean things to a person just because that person is black and oh by the way why can't we have a White Entertainment Television and why do we have to have a black history month and why can't we have a white miss america let me cry some more into my corn flakes.

Jesus, grow some effing balls and stop crying.

It wasn't. Just a bunch of morons taking the opportunity to try and stir the pot.
The Liberals love playing with the English language.  You should see what they're doing in the free speech thread.  Leave your common sense at the door.

I would like to agree with this, but the second any white media personality says something to the effect of "Yes I said it and I meant it", then they are out of the business immediately.

BOR did what he did to be dismissive of someone who he knows to be an idiot and I think that she could have said what would be as important as the next Declaration of Independence and it would have been ignored by him because of the source and her past.

And if he didn't apologize?  Which, in reality, he didn't need to do.
