Useless Fantasy Trivia (1 Viewer)

One thread, two questions . . .

Which post-merger NFL teams had the best and worst combined rankings comprised of the following: 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE.

If that was unclear, let's use last year's Patriots as an example:

Brady 1

Maroney 25

Moss 1

Welker 11

Watson 13

Team Total: 51

(No, they are not one of the teams.)

A few teams in that time did not use a TE, so they could use another WR instead. But no team without a TE is on the list, so we don't need to worry about it)

So we are looking for the best of the best of the best . . . and the worst of the worst of the worst.

You need to list the team and the year.

(Of course, I am assuming the info that Doug ran me is accurate.)

I suspect the best teams will be easier to breakdown than the worst teams, but here goes . . .

For the best, I'm guessing Marino's Dolphins in 1984. With Duper, Clayton, etc.

Either them, or Fouts and the Chargers in 1982.

I don't know who the best is, but this year they are going to go down to:

Orton

Forte

Hester

Lloyd

Olsen

"Mark it down!!"

1992 SF 49ers for the best: Young, Watters, Rice, Taylor, Jones

Best guess for worst would be 2002 Texans: Carr, Wells, Gaffney, Bradford, Miller.

1998 Vikings are my guess. That Cunningham/Moss/Carter/Smith group was really good. TE? I dunno.
'99 Rams should be pretty high: Warner, Faulk, Bruce, Holt, AzZahir and Roland Williams (only 226 rec yards on 25 recs, but had 6 of Warner's 41 TD's) at TE

Close enough . . . it was the 93 Niners not the 92 Niners.123 1989 49ers45 1993 49ers67 1998 Vikings8910

Either them, or Fouts and the Chargers a few seasons later.
Right teams . . . wrong years.
Chargers in 82.Dolphins in 85.
Both wrong, but in the interest of time . . .1 1981 Chargers

2

3 1989 49ers

4 1986 Dolphins

5

6

7 1998 Vikings

8

lol......is there a deadline?

I'm late for football practice . . . so there kinda is if you want me to give immediate feedback.

I'm thinking 1999 Rams:

Kurt Warner (QB1?)

Marshall Faulk (RB1?)

Isaac Bruce (WR?)

Torry Holt (WR?)

TE???

The 2000 St Louis Rams?

Kurt Warner

Marshall Faulk

Torry Holt

Issac Bruce

Roland Williams (if you can even count him..)

Also.. do these points include PPR? :P

One of the 80s Lynn-Dickey Green Bay teams might be a sleeper for best stats -- Dickey has a huge year one season with James Lofton and John Jefferson probably both top-15 at their positions (Lofton probably top-3). Paul Coffman, too, was almost certainly a top-3 TE. RB is the wild card, but Eddie Lee Ivery (or one of those guys) I think had a huge TD season one year.

Another sleeper best-stats team -- the 1995 or 1996 Lions ... the year Scott Mitchell went off. Three WRs had huge stats, and of course Barry Sanders was still producing at a top-5 level. Can't remember the TEs name, but maybe it was a high-TD season for that TD.

Other teams to think about:

-- the Run & Shoot Oilers (Mike Rozier went off one year at RB ... but TE?)

-- the AFC-title-winning Bills teams (Kelly, A. Reed, Lofton one year, Metzelaars, Thurman Thomas).

-- the one year Danny White went off for 29 TDs for Dallas (1981?). Dorsett, Hill, forgetting another WR, Cosbie at TE)

You're looking for worst combined rankings, too, right? How about the 1976 Buccaneers?
Change it to 1977 and it's a match.1234 1977 Bucs5678910
1976 or 1977 Seahawks? But Zorn and Largeant were pretty productive from the start, weren't they?I bet one of Steve Spurrier's mid-to-late-70s 49ers teams are on the bad list ... the year they had a used up O.J. Simpson at RB and complete no-names at WR & TE.

The Oilers did not have a TE and using a 3rd reciver got them close but not on the list.

Need a year for the Bills and Boys as both are on the list.

Both the Niners and Hawks are on the bad list . . . but your years are WAY off.

Wow, I gotta checkout the teams Spurrier played for -- seems he led some unbelievably bad offenses. But ... the 49ers also have had other rough patches. I bet one of the recent Alex Smith years is on the list. 2005?And the Seahawks ... when was it that they were fumbling around with Rick Mirer? Memory is failing here ... 1993?
