Valedictorian reveals she is undocumented (1 Viewer)

How long before Trump and his fans attack her?
Probably longer than it took you to try and spark a gun debate in a thread about a 22 year old singer who just lost her life.

I am starting to think a KKK member who bombs abortion clinics and beats women has more compassion than Tim.

I don't know how you political people do it. The constant obsession with the opposite side.

From the outside looking in, much like the religious obsessions, the message you people are trying to convey just gets lost. It's just noise to everyone but your own ears.

Get out and do something more constructive with your family or people in need, instead of constantly spewing negativity and finger pointing at the opposite side.

To the outside guy, you're all just a bunch of loons.

Obama, Trump, Hillary, Bush, God, guns, jesus, muslims, black, white, racists....at some point don't you just get tired?

We already panned her in the Trump thread.

Actually, these are the exact types of immigrants we want coming here legally.  But what gets my dander up is her breaking the law and coming here illegally, blaming the US for having to do that, living in a beautiful, affluent middle class suburb with all the benefits of being an American citizen, getting a full ride to Yale, and then having the stones to criticize the US in her speech?  Being a US citizen is not a right for all peoples of the world to enjoy.

Sure.

But this is no game. It may be noise to you, but real people are being hurt by our current laws regarding illegal immigrants, and they will be hurt far worse if Trump gets in and gets his way. This girl was incredibly brave to reveal what her status was, and she did it to fight for millions of people living in the shadows of this country, and who are terrified that they're going to be forced out.

Being a US citizen is not a right for all peoples of the world to enjoy.

The founding fathers created our country for THIS EXACT PURPOSE. This is who we are supposed to be.

You talk a lot about how we're different as a country now than we were in 1776 and how we should regulate laws differently when it fits your own political perspective.  Pretty sure that would apply here as well.

Of course I do. But this isn't a question, at least IMO, about certain laws. This is central to who we are as a nation. There is a reason why we are the greatest nation in the history of the Earth (I am very much an American exceptionalist.) The USA is an idea. If we give up that idea, we are no longer the USA.

It may seem like noise, but this is no game. All I see is creative, intellectual discourse being held between knowledgeable individuals while acting very respectful of each other. The topics being discussed are very important and, in the broadest possible scope, do not resemble anything fleeting or futile in any way, shape, or form!

The US is not an idea anymore and it hasn't been for a long time.  Why?  Because we are freely giving away our liberties.  I find it funny that someone who is constantly in favor of giving away more of our liberties so he can live in imagined security is so adamant about allowing freedom and liberty in this situation.

Well obviously I disagree with you about this, but i'm not sure how it bears on the question of illegal immigration.

It doesn't.  Just my own mind wandering.  You're ok with granting liberty to anyone in the world, yet you actively support taking liberties away from current Americans.  I just crave consistency.

Just so I understand, are you referring to the NSA, or something else?

Yes, we are a nation of laws.
