VBD with IDP (1 Viewer)

First, some background: a problem I've had with my league is that I feel too much is given for TD's by IDPs. It is 10 pts per TD and .01 pt per yard returned on the TD. So when someone picks off a pass on the goal line and brings it back 100 yards for the TD, they 10 pts for TD, 10 pts for the yardage and don't forget the 4 pts for the INT. That's 24 pts for one play!!!!! I feel this adds too much luck to our FF hobby (obsession). But I have fought and fought to change it but no one agrees with me. Now I have done the VBD, but in the projections for the players there are TD's projected. With the exception of injuries, I can't think of anything else that is harder to predict than who scores defensive TD's. I feel this is throwing off the true value of players especially since we reward 10 pts for the TD. My question then is this: should I not include the pts when I do the "inputs" and just stick to the standard scoring? Or include the pts because there will be TD's scored by IDP which will throw off the original values anyways?I tend to judge IDP's by their tackles anyways since sacks, int, and fumbles are somewhat hard to project accurately.

I have no idea about any of the technical stuff you asked, however, just thinking about it rationally I would likely increase the value of safties/DB's more than they are worth. If you want to give yourself the best chance to "luck-out" with a long return TD, it is that position that has the best chance to give it to you.

I'd leave the TDs out of it and go with the nuts & bolts scoring - tackles, sacks, etc.... As you said, TDs are very hard to predict. A few guys - like Ed Reed - seem more apt to score a TD than others, so you may want to give them a mental bump in your rankings.

I think you have it right. Only 7 DB's scored multiple td's (as defensive players--not KR or PR).Sharper 3; Reed, Mathis, Abraham, McAlister, Barber, Shepherd all with two.

Of those, only Reed had multiple touchdowns in '03, with 3 td's.

First of all, I agree with you that that's an asinine scoring system. There are going to be a lot of DB's who get most of their scoring from turnovers.

As for how to do VBD, like others have said I'd focus on the more predictable stats. For a guy like Reed who's more or less of a "sure thing" to bring at least one to the house, I'd probably add one TD plus an average amount of return yardage, say 25 yards. That's about the best you can do.
