I think I remember Berkeley Breathed -- or another humorist -- joked about fruititarians, because it was the only thing that dropped to the ground without death being inherent in its consumption.
Eating just isn't pretty. It's ugly, both in spirit and deed according to our puritanical morals, which really is where dietary restrictions come from -- the religious impulse.
