Vehicle Registration/Insurance for 18 YO (1 Viewer)

My 18 YO daughter drives a car that I purchased, it's registered to me, and I pay for the insurance.  If she does something stupid (like 18 YO kids do sometimes) what is the best way to protect myself from being responsible for her actions.  For example, if she gets a DUI or if she gets into an accident or, god forbid, some combination of the two - what liability do I have given the car is registered to me?  Obviously my insurance would cover it from that angle and my premiums would go up, but anything beyond that?

Would it be better to have the car registered in her name?  Would it be better to have her on her own policy?

I’m in your same situation with an 18 year old daughter. Her own policy would cost $4000+ yr just for her. Only $3000/yr for the 3 of us.  Financially prohibitive.

I’m not a lawyer but I don’t think the fact that the car is registered to you puts you at any liability for her actions while in the vehicle.

Still good to have an umbrella liability policy for the whole family even though it doesn’t cover losses in the commission of a felony.

Bump for morning/weekday crowd.  BTW I live in FL in case that matters.
Google is probably the best course of looking it up without talking to your insurance agent/lawyers. I’d second the post above on the umbrella policy. Even if things are registered a certain way there still could be liability since she’s living with you and likely a dependent.
