Vick Linked to Steroids (1 Viewer)

Michael Vick has told federal investigators that he never used performance-enhancing drugs, but Plano steroids trafficker David Jacobs told The Dallas Morning News before his death that he was Vick's supplier when Vick played for the Atlanta Falcons.

The News did not publish Jacobs' allegations against the NFL quarterback because authorities at the time declined to confirm Vick was part of the Jacobs investigation.

But a newly released document shows that federal agents and prosecutors questioned Vick about steroids and human growth hormone while investigating his dog-fighting ring in the fall of 2007. Vick denied using the drugs.

Agents asked Vick about an alleged encounter at the Falcons' 2006 Christmas party. Details of that encounter relayed by an informant to the Drug Enforcement Administration are similar to what Jacobs told The News after he began cooperating with federal agents and NFL investigators.

If this were true wouldn't Vick be caught when the league periodically tested him? Or am I just naive to think these guys can't avoid detection, which would render the whole testing program a joke.

The latter. The testing program is a joke. They can't even test for HGH and basically the only way they can catch someone is when a dealer is caught.

yes the testing program is a joke. i would imagine around 95% of the league has used peds.

no steriods do not necessarily add "bulk"

Unless the NFL has some kind of high tech testing program way above the rest, there will always be ways to counter the detection of drugs. Eventually the drug programs will catch on, but then people will figure other ways to pass tests.

Tim Couch tested positive for steroids when he launched his comeback a few years back. While Vick never looked like a juicer to me, nothing surprises me. These days kickers look like gearheads so anybody can be using.

All that matters is if he tests for it now!
If it could be proven that Vick was a steroid user not through blood testing but through a criminal investigation, as occurred with Balco for example, wouldn't it still matter? Wouldn't the league still consider him subject to the banned substance policy (can't remember the official name) and suspend him?

vick had no real reason to want to add bulk
Are we honestly operating under the assumption that Vick is a man of reason? What would lead you to that conclusion? Flipping off his own fans? The drug issues? The dog fighting? The public denials of such in the wake of great evidence to the contrary?

Besides, his steroid and/or HGH use wouldn't have to be about adding bulk. It would be about being generally stronger, faster, more rapid recovery from injury, etc. Sprinters (remember Ben Johnson?) have used them, and their purpose was not to add bulk but to improve overall performance.

 Steroids are not just about adding bulk. You think Andy Petite and Roger Clemens were tried to get big?

it honestly seems more likely that he was buying them for the dogs.vick had no real reason to want to add bulk
Steroids help you get faster and stronger as well. Also helps you to recover from injuries, which Vick had issues with early in his career (until he met his supplier).

Most pros are on this stuff get over it. I remember a few years ago most on this board thought Clemens was clean. I repeat, big money is involved more players are juicing than you think. There is not a player in ANY league that would surprise me including the ALL the big names in ALL sports. Just enjoy the games and stop with this, ALL the players are friends and THEY ALL talk about whatever edge they can get.

taking steriods or peds or whatever is indeed a logical and reasonable pursuit for vick. or any other professional athlete.
