Vikings to announce new uniforms in April (1 Viewer)

From today's Minny paper:

The Vikings are expected to unveil their new uniforms late next month during the week leading into the NFL draft, following a recent tradition of teams maximizing the draft frenzy that culminates in on-site draft parties.

The Arizona Cardinals followed a similar route when they redesigned their uniforms two years ago. Assuming all goes according to plan, the Vikings will debut them during the week of April 24. The draft is scheduled for April 29-30.

I've got a cousin that works up at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, and he provided this sneak peak at the Vikings new uniforms.

No life preservers?

i don't mind the new V as a logo but on the helmet? not so much

reminds me of the first raven helmets before they switched (including the numbers font)

not a bad effort on the other two designs

Don't be so presumptuous about the Vikes Unis looking that great.

Check out their concept drawings
Good thing they put a legend in with the drawing so people know what colors will be used.
 My guess is that they are just trying to show a little sensitivity to folks in the audience who suffer from various forms of color blindness. Not all of us are blessed with 20/20 vision and the ability to see a full color spectrum.... ;)

Sorry, but those are horrible. What a horrifically bad idea.

First of all, the geniuses in the Vikings organization who think it might be kinda fun and exciting to remove the horn from the helmet should be flayed in the public square. Seriously. Just drag 'em out to the Mall of America, put 'em in the stocks and pelt them with rotten vegetables.

That said, even the ones on that website that retain the horn are a step backward and border on classless. Looks like something a NASCAR driver would wear. Sure, it might look real "snazzy" on an NFL Europe expansion team, but it would barely pass muster in a Junior College conference in Montana, much less the NFL. Here's a little advice to the Vikings management: DON'T MESS WITH THE HELMETS. They're perfectly awesome just the way they are.

I gotta tell ya, I grew up in California, but when I was a kid I became a Minnesota Vikings fan because they played in ten below zero conditions at Metropolitan Stadium, had tough, no-nonsense dudes on the field like Joe Kapp, Bill Brown and Alan Page, and had that stark, purple gear with the horns on the helmet. I grew out of it when they moved indoors to the Metrodome, but it still makes my heart sink when I see some nitwit mess with their great tradition. I mean, they've only had the same uni for 45 years! Those uniforms are classic. Jeez, does every freekin thing have to be about $$$$ and aiming your marketing at a typical 12 year old boy?

What's next? Change the Green Bay Packers colors to chartruese and black?

I can't find the quote, but I did read that Wilf said that the product isn't a huge change. He said they just tried to make the horn on the helmet a little more three dimensional...so I don't expect big changes.
