Vilma (1 Viewer)

I've been biting my tongue all year hoping he'd come around, but this week pisses me off.

1-3 in a great MLB tackle opportunity. Does he just suck now, as bad as he did when #### hit the fan in NY a few years ago? Not a single GOOD game from him all year. No sir........ I'm about to cut you.

Any insight would be much appreciated. And I'm not really interested in something like "Be patient, talent pays off." He's not exactly a spring chicken anymore.

I watched him today and he was all over the field. He looked good. I think he is suffering because the Saints get up so far so fast that other teams turn to the pass for the rest of the game. Not sure this is the case.

In all fairness to Vilma he is only 27 years old.

Also, the team leader on the Saints today had just 5 total tackles. Shanle had 5 total, Vilma 4 total, and Fujita had 1. The team as a whole had just 10 assist tackles awarded today.

I wouldn't just cut him unless there was a clear cut better option available. His numbers are hurt by the Saints usually being up in games and the other teams having to throw to get back in the game.

Again, not a single "good" game this year. Last year was his redemption year, and it was great. This year is heading right down the same path that his NYJ career took him. Yep, he's 27, will this carry on for a few more years until he's almost 30? It was cool years ago when we knew the scene would change. I want to believe! But this year has been bull####!

Several things to note here. Marvin Mitchell and Troy Evans were on the field a lot i think replacing Vilma. Shanle seemed to be the only Saint LB'er staying on the field in almost all situations. from stats: saints defenders only had 37 tackle opportunities opposed to 62 for Giant defenders. Giants didn't run the ball that much and they didn't throw over the middle that often. apparent by only 6receptions from their underneath/middle field weapons of Steve Smith/Boss/RB's. lastly, Vilma is only a tackle threat when the team he plays for is strictly playing in a base 4-3. the saints under Greg Williams play a lot of exotic packages with different and changing fronts. those are just stats and observations, IMHO Vilma has been a vastly overrated LB'er that has had Fantasy impact in the past but not much real impact in anyway. in his career he's rarely made plays at or behind the LOS or in coverage and now that he's lost a step/s from his chronic knee condition he's not even gifted athletically.

This is true. In his entire career Vilma has 17.5 tackles for loss. In comparison Ray Lewis had 15 in one season.

What you see from Vilma is what you get this season. I could see him having a few big games (@ Atlanta week 14, the first week of the playoffs?) but as mentioned above by ninerfanatic Williams has brought a lot of 3-4/exotic defensive looks that limit Vilma's tackles a bit. I'm sure there are some long-term owners having flashbacks from the Jets defensive transition a few seasons ago. The Saints getting their opponents into passing situations early in games hasn't helped either.
