Vince Young (1 Viewer)

King of the Jungle

When watching Vince Young highlights (the only way I have an opportunity to watch him) he seems to be a one read pony. Staring down a single target and waiting for that target to become available for a pass. I understand that his surrounding cast is less than desirable. BUT, I was anticipating a little bit of growth this year from a technical standpoint. Are the "highlights" not telling the whole story? Does this guy show enough to think that he can become a complete QB?

IMO, from watching him he can become a good passer. I think he will break out his third year, if he doesn't then the VY experiment can be considered a failure.

I saw him stare down one receiver at times yesterday.

I also saw him at times make multiple reads in a progression, leading to intermediate depth completions to open receivers. At times I also saw him unload and put some serious heat on the ball a few times. Other times, his touch was off. I saw him force the ball, and I saw him thread the needle on some great throws. He made great decisions and bad ones, showed perfect timing and held the ball too long.

In other words, he was inconsistent. He reminds me of a 2nd year qb finding his way without a lot of help in the passing game...and on Sunday, unlike most of this year, he WAS the running game. Essentially, he was the offense against the Jags, as the rest of the team combined for 10 yards rushing. Yound had 52.

He needs to run a bit more, not less, and I'm not sure if it's VY not wanting to run or if it's Chow/Fish wanting him to stay put. They also need to unleash him more often in the downfield passing game, regardless of the WRs. I've seen this all play out with him before. It's like a time machine.

What's next? He may fight it a little more...but when it all comes together for Young, and esp when the Titans add to the OL and add a true deep threat at WR, things will change in a dramatic way.

The highlights weren't telling the whole story last year. The guy wasn't close to the hype. I think a lot of people regarded him as a long shot to be a star in this league out of college, and I'd say he still is. Of course, many will disagree.

Highlights never tell the whole story... they're like quotes...they can make anyone look good or bad. If you want the whole picture, you need to watch the game, or read the entire transcript of the interview. If you see only the 2 int's any qb throws in a game, you'll come away with a negative impression...two tds = a positive one.The Sportscenter mentality these days leads to a lot of people seeing the highlights and thinking they know what happened. Far from it.

If I were you I would go with the "Hope for the best and expect the worst" motto so you won't be disappointed.

Yeah, I just hope they recognize they have the nucleus of what could become a great team....and then do what it takes to push 'em over the hump. They're really not far off.
