I saw him stare down one receiver at times yesterday.
I also saw him at times make multiple reads in a progression, leading to intermediate depth completions to open receivers. At times I also saw him unload and put some serious heat on the ball a few times. Other times, his touch was off. I saw him force the ball, and I saw him thread the needle on some great throws. He made great decisions and bad ones, showed perfect timing and held the ball too long.
In other words, he was inconsistent. He reminds me of a 2nd year qb finding his way without a lot of help in the passing game...and on Sunday, unlike most of this year, he WAS the running game. Essentially, he was the offense against the Jags, as the rest of the team combined for 10 yards rushing. Yound had 52.
He needs to run a bit more, not less, and I'm not sure if it's VY not wanting to run or if it's Chow/Fish wanting him to stay put. They also need to unleash him more often in the downfield passing game, regardless of the WRs. I've seen this all play out with him before. It's like a time machine.
What's next? He may fight it a little more...but when it all comes together for Young, and esp when the Titans add to the OL and add a true deep threat at WR, things will change in a dramatic way.
