Vincent Jackson return date (1 Viewer)

This topic is specifically about the date he returns...NOT a discussion of how will he perform on the field, will he take Floyd's spot, etc. I have two parts to my question:

1. Has he spoken about it publicly yet, regarding his intentions to abide by the NFLPA recomendations?

2. Is it possible for him to return sooner than Week 12? The way I understand, if he reports on Oct. 31 (Week 8), he has to sit out 3 weeks (Weeks 9, 10, 11), and play on Week 12. So in theory, could he return on Oct. 24 (Week 7), and return on Week 11? Are there other details of his suspension that prohibit an earlier return.

1 - not that I know of2 - He can return whenever he wants to but he wont because he is playing for peanuts and has no incentive to report until he has to

I had the same question. So he could be back as early as week 11. Can someone explain exactly what the "roster exempt" list is and how it works or the theory behind the suspension when put on the list? Is there a chance that he can still strike a deal to have his roster exempt suspension stricken down like they were talking about during the MIN talks? Wil the PA go to bat for him? There are still teams who I'm sure are interested in his services (STL, SEA, etc).

As stated previously, he can come in and sign his tender whenever he would like. He must allow the roster exempt status run out before he can play. There is nothing to be done about the 3 week exemption. It has to run its course. Discussions from earlier this year have shown this is the case. If he comes back on Oct. 31, he will be available for week 12 of the NFL season. This is the deadline for him to get his 6 paid games and become a UFA at the end of the year. If he doesn't come back, in all reality, he will be a RFA again next year. This has been told to him by the NFLPA. I would think this is all the incentive VJ would need but he hasn't shown himself to be the sharpest individual. At this point, a trade looks like a huge long shot. Very few teams are interested in the whole situation and with the very high asking price in draft picks for VJ.

After the fiasco with the players in SD, I can predict more players sign their tender, and play the first 6 weeks of the regular season. THEN they sit out until they get a new contract.

The problem with doing it this way is that once they sign the tender they are under contract and they would be fined for each game they miss in addition to not getting paid.

It's very expensive to sit out after signing a contract. I think it's about $16K per day.

As it stands now it sounds like he'll sign on October 31st, then miss Weeks 8-11 (three games of roster exemption and a bye) and return for Weeks 12-17.

The deadline for him to get an accrued season is actually 1 pm on October 30.It is possible that his agents won't figure that out, though, and he'll report on October 31.

What about the suspension he had? does he have to serve those games after the 3, or do they consider them served since he hasnt played?

the suspension was served weeks 1-3 and is doneyes it is intentional he can serve a suspension while not on a rosterthe only thing left is the 3 weeks roster-exempt

Vincent Jackson hotline.. please hold

If AJ wasn't so thick headed, he would have VJ available right now. With Gates and Floyd ailing, who's laughing now? Not your 2-4 team AJ

Things sure can turn quickly. AJ looking great last week with Floyd and Gates flourishing. Who knew a trip to the St. Louis Rams would be such a buzzkill?

Without VJ, they have had the best passing attack in the league. They are not 2-4 because they are missing VJ.

Well considering both Gates and Floyd sustained injuries this past week I am sure the chargers are more eager than ever to get Vjax back.

Still no reason to say AJ was thickheaded.

No he's just a moron. Lets go of Brees because of injury for Rivers. Then Brees becomes prolific at New Orleans, gets his Super Bowl win. Lets go of LT for Ryan Matthews. LT is done right? Not yet. Now VJ can't get a contract with a new team because AJ wants a 1st and 2nd round pick for a guy that will only play half a season. Look in the mirror AJ, you are whats wrong with your team right now. Go fire yourself!A new Charger hater is born

Yes they are. They sure could have used him yesterday and at the end of the Seahawks game they wouldn't have had to try to force the ball to Gates three times in the end zone while he was being triple covered. Oakland and Kansas City, well, maybe he makes a difference and maybe he doesn't, but the other two losses they probably win with VJ on the field.4-2 is a far cry away from 2-4.

SD has lost all their road games, and I'm not seeing where Jackson's absence had much to do with it.They outproduced the Chiefs 389 to 197 yards and had 298 yards passing but allowed a key punt return for a TD.They outproduced the Seahawks 518 to 271 yards and had 455 yards passing but allowed 2 kickoff returns for TDs.They outproduced the Raiders 415 to 168 yards and had 431 passing yards but allowed blocked punt and fumble returns for scores.Other then the game against the Rams, Jackson probably would have had little to no impact on the outcome of the other games.

No one can predict what would've happened, but they sure would've had a better shot

You clearly didn't watch the end of the Seahawks game. Jackson's presence makes a huge difference in the defensive coverages, especially near the goal line. They can put up all the yards in the world, but if they can't get in the end zone, it doesn't matter.

Have to agree somewhat with this. I know the Chargers are getting passing yardage, but yardage don't mean jack unless you can score off them. Someone like Jackson can really fight for the ball. Its what they are missing. Its what Gates has been doing and at this point, I don't think that is enough

No GM in the history of the universe could have made VJ eligible to play against the Seahawks.
