The NFL suspended San Diego Chargers Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson three games for violating the league's personal conduct policy, a league source said Thursday.

The three-game suspension can be reduced upon appeal, but it is uncertain whether Jackson will appeal. He pleaded guilty in February to driving under the influence, his second conviction.

Jackson's suspension could be a moot point, however. He has been planning to not report to the Chargers unless he signs a long-term contract extension that nobody believes is forthcoming.

If the season begins and Jackson has not reported to the team, then he would be suspended for three games that he wouldn't have played in anyway.

So it sounds like they are suggesting that games that he holds himself out of will count toward the suspension. So if he just holds out for the first 3 weeks, nothing is lost, and theoretically he could play in week 4? If he holds out for 10 weeks, he still gets an accumulated season, and he can play in week 11, as if there was no suspension anyway? That system seems broken to me.

Agreed. Will it have any affect on his potential trade value though? If he's not being traded and that statement is correct it might aswell be a 10 game suspension.

Jared Allen had his 4 game suspension reduced to 2 as a result of appeal. However, Allen apologized for his actions and worked with several charities prior to his appeal.

I don't think this article is correct about that. Since he wouldn't be undercontract (having not signed his tender) the suspencion wouldn't run until he was under contract.

He is not under contract. So once he signs, then the suspension will begin. Holding out doesnt count towards the suspension

No it isn't. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Appeal and good behavior. He convinced Goodell he got the message and changed.

Whether Jackson can serve his suspension before he signs and reports must be specified by Goodell. The earliest ESPN reports do not have that info. For now, the three-week duration has been leaked (assuming ESPN's reports are true), but other details have not been.

Ok what SDC WR, other than Floyd, benfits from this? Could we see Sproles become the third WR in front of LN and CD?

I was going to suggest someone, but then I remembered I thought Crayton was the DAL receiver to get last year, so maybe I should keep quiet.Think I'll try and grab Buster Davis out of the bargain bin, tho. Floyd is kinda expensive right now.

Floyd and Naanee would probably start outside, with either Davis or Reed in the slot. But it's possible that the roles I just described for Naanee and Davis could be reversed.

Naanee is the HUGE sleeper here. Not many people know about him but he is a raw player who possesses some skills.
