Voters in North Western PA (5th) - Kerith Strano Taylor for Congress (1 Viewer)

So her platform statement is pretty vague. I don't see where she is really advocating for anything. Pretty much political pablum.
Oof, agreed. Not one example of an actual policy she endorses.
She's a liberal running in a historically conservative area. She supports the minimum wage hike, the ACA, the fair pay act, etc. She graduated from Penn State at an early age (19?), went to work on the Hill for a congressman, then went to a 1st tier Law School in the DC area (George Mason University).

She's extremely bright, devotes her free time to advocating for children and the less fortunate, and is also well versed in economic issues, understanding the need for a balanced approach to tackling our fiscal problems.

In sum, she would be a great addition to Congress.
The point was more of "why doesn't she advocate any actual policies as part of her platform"? "It's time to put people back to work", and "Simplify the tax code", and "Reinvest in public education" aren't platforms or policies, they're slogans. Where is her actual prescription for doing these things?

Not that many of our other politicians are any better, but if you're out there saying how you're different, than you have to actually be different.

And increase minimum wage / fair pay act? Meh. Neither of those things are "putting people back to work".
Her platform is indicative of her priorities. A freshman legislator who suggests they have the answers to "fixing" Congress is a liar.

She can't give one single example of an actual policy she'd support?

Perhaps a better way of making you understand would be to note that die-hard conservatives that you'd despise would likely have an identical platform to your candidate here. They'd have very different ways of going about it, but I can guarantee you that pretty much everyone running for Congress right now is promising that they want to "put people back to work", "stop kicking the can down the road", "fix the tax code", "fix our education system", and "put Congress back to work". Hell, Sarah Palin probably promises to do all those things.

Were you to grant me fiat power, I would absolutely do every one of those things, but you'd likely hate the way I would accomplish those things.

The problem is that without details on HOW one advocates going about those things, every single of those items is a meaningless platitude.

Oh, hooray. Another beltway insider with platitudes instead of ideas.
The republican incumbent running unopposed had more votes than the two democrats combined so you are probably correct come November. Then again on his web page his first listed issue is to allow Northern Long-Eared Bat go extinct. Priorities!

The indictment is more on the voters than on Strano-Taylor, to be honest. I'm not suggesting the GOP opponent is any better.

I just can't see why anyone would endorse or vote for a candidate who can't or won't name a single policy of which they are in favor. Her primary opponent at least offered some specifics.

PA-5 stretches from outside Erie all the way to outside State College and (mostly) north of I-80 to the NY state line. It is very, very rural (IIRC, Forest County is the only county in PA without a traffic light.) Most everyone from both parties is fairly conservative. The only people you see with pro-Obama stickers are people affiliate with Clarion University and some party activists.

Glenn Thompson goes to Washington, does his job, comes back to hob-nob with constituents. Nobody seems to have a problem with him as far as I know.

If you're satisfied with what rank-and-file Republicans are doing in the House, by all means, support him in the fall.

He's been wrong on Iraq, Iran, he wants to keep troops in Afghanistan, he's in favor of a balanced budget constitutional amendment (insane position), he's in favor of a flat tax (insane), and opposes the ACA which has led to 10s of thousands of Pennsylvanians getting health insurance.

He's certainly not an ###-clown Republican like we see all too often in office these days, but you guys can do better.

I think you know why.

Strano-Taylor has put up a large sign on the southwest part of the interchange of I-80 and Route 68 outside of Clarion. First real sign of hers I've seen other than a small yard sign on Riverhill.

She's working her *** off, I know that. She is at multiple events in the district on a daily basis. Her opponent is backed by the AGA and other large special interests, so she is going to have to win by outworking GT b/c she will never be able to compete in fundraising.

The polls do not seem to giver her any chance; the 5th district is listed as "safe Republican" by virtually every site. Hoping for a Cantoresque upset....
