Vouchers given for flight delay - negotiate? (1 Viewer)

In short, my family of 4 (me, wifey, 5 yr old, & 2 yr old) were scheduled to fly yesterday at 10am and arrive at our destination at 2pm local. After boarding, they found a crack in a window, so we deboarded and were delayed for 5 hours, finally arriving at our destination at 7pm. Needless to say, a 5 delay is brutal with young kids, especially when the flight itself is 6 hours.

Airline gave us 4 $12 vouchers for lunch in the airport during the delay, free food/drinks on the flight, and I just received an email with discount codes for $125 for each member of my family. We have 330 days to use what is essentially a $500 discount.

Would any of you respond to the email, describing the hardship of missing TGiving dinner and essentially ruining an afternoon of vacation, and ask for a larger discount? Or should I be happy with the $500?

You can try. Generally they will offer you up to $500 if you give up your seat on a full flight, but I doubt they'll do that for 4 people.

Used to travel a lot on business, even though that's been a few years ago, they pretty much did the high end of what I'd have expected them to do. I've seen them just give food vouchers for the airport food court in cases like this before.
